Why we need PA 6 Filtration

The demand for product quality and reduced costs of PA6 is increasing every day.

− Spinning: impurities and gels cause breakages/flyin g filaments during spinning and

fluffiness of the yarn making further process of th e yarn more difficult and increasing

production costs not only of the yarns but also of final products.

− For non textile applications, grains needs to be co ntaminant-free, especially when

color additives are applied

− The development of better, finer more resistant yar ns is moving the production limits

every day and putting the filtration circumstances also to new horizons.

− The development of bigger and bigger sizes PA6 poly condensation lines request a very

stable and reliable filtrayion steps to avoid costly production stops.

All the possible contaminants are to be removed

•The raw materials can be delivered very pure, but still impurities may exist, due to handling of the bulk materials and the way it is produced

•To ensure a clean production process, monomers and polymers are filtered

•Filtering of polymers takes place at different stages in the production process. Different filters are used at each stage, each with a different function. The main filters are monomer filters, Central Polymer Filters (CPF) and spinpacks filters.

Gel retention in spinning

When gel is included in a polymer filament, it forms a weak spot that can cause an interruption of the spinning process. Gel is retained by a series of filters, combined in a spinpack.

- The first step is to break the gel through the sheer effect with the metal powder and the meshes.

- The second step is to retain the gel with the Bekipor® filter.

How to do

Gel inclusions in filament

Gel that is not retained will enter the spin plate and is included in the filament. Gel inclusions lower the overall tensile strength of the monofilament, with the possible breaking of the filament as a result.

When more than half of the diameter of the monofilament is formed by gel, it will break.

Optimization from entry to exit

In order to avoid gels, the flow path through your filtration system needs to be optimized to the limit from the entry flange to the exit flange.

Dead Zones are to be avoided everywhere!

No dead zones, no slow moving areas, no flow restricted areas, good and homogeneous heating and mixing are key for a well designed PA6 filtrations system.

The areas of importance are: valves, tube sheet design, flow repartition through the candles, top cover design, residence ti me of the polymer inside the filtration system.
