Dear JPIIA Parents,

I am so excited for Trick or Trunk! See

you tonight. Everyone who has a child trick or treating

needs to bring candy to pass out. In addition, I will again

be judging best boy and girl costume and best trunk. A

huge thank you to the Slaasted and Howard families for

chairing this event this year. Bring on the fun!

Mandatory Parent STUDENT Teacher conferences are

coming (November 8 & 9). Please watch your email for the

link to sign up.

Cooler weather is on its way for next week. Please dress

your child in layers as it varies during the day and we try

to go to recess every day.

This Tuesday and Wednesday we are going to have our Ac-

creditation visit. This has been a long year and half pro-

cess to get ready. I really want to thank all of the facul-

ty, staff, parents and students that have helped. I am al-

so grateful to the Parish Staff and the Finance Council

who have helped a great deal. A huge thank you goes to

Mrs. Mueller, Mrs. Angelini and Mrs. Knapp who have led

the teams of organization. I feel very privileged to be

able to serve this community. This process every 7 years

really helps us to analyze and see how we are doing.

Counseling Corner

It is hard to believe that we are already well into October. The beginning of school has been filled with learning, friendship, and positivity. The virtue of the month in September was Excellence. Rather than thinking of excellence as achieving perfection, the stu-dents and I defined excellence as always trying your best and paying close attention to every detail of your work. To reinforce this idea, classroom guidance lessons focused on developing a “Growth Mindset.” Through these discussions we learned that a student can develop abilities and achieve goals through motivation, hard work, and practice, in spite of obstacles or challenges. Emphasis was placed on teamwork and changing our self-talk from a Fixed Mindset to a Growth Mindset. For example, instead of saying “I’m not good at this,” we could say “Mistakes help me grow!” In the elementary school many great books were read including Giraffes Can’t Dance, The Most Magnificent Thing, and Your Fantastic Elastic Brain. In the junior high we completed an activity where, in groups, students had to build a pyramid out of red solo cups using only 4 pieces of string and 1 rubber band. This really illustrated the im-portance of teamwork and perseverance when things are difficult. This year, I am going to be recognizing two students, one boy and one girl, each month that exemplify the virtue, as nominated by their teachers. These students will receive a certificate and have their names read over the announcements as well as be included in a display called “The JPIIA Wall of Virtue.”

Service Hours In keeping with our mission of Believe, Grow, Achieve as a Catholic school and to live the Corporal and Spiritual works of Mercy. As part of our Religious curriculum all Middle School students need to perform a required amount of service hours during the 2017-2018 school year. The required hours are as follows: 8th Grade 5 School 5 Community 5 Parish

6th and 7th Grade 4 School 3 Community 3 Parish Once the service has been completed the Google Form to submit Each service event can be found on my website. Hours will not be submitted on paper but instead will be submitted as a google form. Also, half of the hours will need to be turned in by December 20, 2017 and the other half will need to be turned in by May 15, 2018. Trick or Trunk

parking lot of JPIIA. Place this flyer in the dashboard of

your car if you are going to hand out candy.

Halloween dress down day on Tuesday, October 31. You can wear black, orange,

purple, or any appropriate Halloween shirt you may have. Happy Halloween!


Cooler Weather & Uniforms

With the cooler weather we have had many requests for uniform sweatshirts and/or long sleeve polos. Any uniform items

we have in stock are while supplies last only. We do not plan to order more. Therefore, if we do not have the size you are

looking for, you must order uniform items from Lands End. This includes all logo’d items such as short / long sleeve polos

and sweatshirts. Please note: students may wear a non-logo sweater (knit cardigan, crew / V-neck, vest, etc.) but it must

be worn over a logo’d polo shirt. Sweaters must be red or navy and cannot be sweatshirt material. Questions? Contact

the school office for further clarification.

Current uniform items in stock are all unisex sized L (14-16) and XL (18-20) and a small amount of adult sizes.

John Paul II Academy is proud to announce its participation in the

5th Annual Soles Walk for Catholic Education to be held on October

21st! Registration is FREE before Monday, September 25th and you

get a FREE t-shirt!! Go to www.catholicschoolswalk.org, search for

John Paul II Academy and join us! While this is a fun event to attend

the best part is that 100% of the funds earned by our walkers goes

directly to JPIIA.

If your child has used the BASC bills are being sent home in the red folders today. Bills are sent out

bi-weekly and due the following Monday. You can submit your payment in the red folder or

60th SACRED HEART BLOOD DRIVE

Thank you to the 13 persons who

donated blood so that

22 students could have a dress

down day. We had 65 donors Thank

you also to all the students

who helped with the babysitting and

refreshments.

Our next blood drive will

be MONDAY April 30
