Time seems to pass by quicker than ever with all the wonderful events that have happened before September, and we aren’t stopping anytime soon! I hope that no matter how quickly the time is passing by, everyone is enjoying themselves and the great company around them. Our Summer Event Series has been going on without a hitch, from French-themed musicians and cuisine to Belmont, Westwood’s 6th-year anniversary that was Mexican-themed that just happened on the 23rd of August. It has been a great time for us all and we hope you’re not tired just yet! For our last event, “Dancing Under the Stars,” we will be moving the date to Oct. 1 to make sure we have everything to make it the knock-out party that it has had the reputation for. In addition to the last event in our series, September is a very important month with the Jewish holy days, Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, happening on the 13th and the 22nd. Also, Sept. 2 is going to be an appreciation ceremony for the veterans who have served and call Belmont their home. We thank you and appreciate all that you have done. The “Let’s Table Alzheimer’s” Fundraiser just finished and a winner will be chosen sometime soon! Thank you to all those who participated and donated to this cause. All efforts taken continue to create awareness for the disease and help further research toward finding a cure. Thank you and I’ll see you all out there. ~James

DRCS Health Hintsby Zara Khatchatrian

Flu SeasonIt’s that time of year again; flu

season is around the corner. Thetiming of flu is very unpredictableand can vary from season toseason. Most seasonal flu activitytypically occurs between Octoberand May. In the United States, theflu most commonly peaksbetween December and January. The CDC recommends a yearly fluvaccine for everyone 6 months ofage or older as the first and mostimportant step in protectingagainst this serious disease. Peopleshould begin getting vaccinatedideally by October to ensure thatas many people as possible areprotected before flu season begins. It takes about two weeks aftervaccination for antibodies todevelop in the body and provideprotection against the flu. Inaddition to getting the vaccine, you can take everyday preventativeactions like staying away from sickpeople and washing your hands toreduce the spread of germs. If youare sick with the flu, stay home to

prevent spreading the fluto others.

If you do get sick with the flu, antiviral drugs which areprescription drugs can be used totreat flu illness. Prompt treatmentwith antiviral drugs can preventserious flu complications. It canmean the difference betweenhaving a milder illness versus veryserious illness that could result ina hospital stay. Treatment withantivirals works best when begunwithin 48 hours of getting sick, but can still be beneficial whengiven later in the course of illness.

Flu Season Health Tips1. Keep your distance from

others to protect them fromgetting sick too.

2. To prevent spreadingillness, stay home.

3. Cover your mouth andnose with a tissue whencoughing or sneezing.

4. Washing your hands oftenwill help protect you fromgerms.

5. Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.

6. Practice other good healthhabits. Clean and disinfectfrequently touched surfaces athome, work or school, especially when someone is ill.Get plenty of sleep, bephysically active, manage yourstress, drink plenty of fluids, and eat nutritious food.
