August 2019
Dear students, parents and guardians,
I hope this newsletter finds you well and that you’re enjoying the summer. On behalf of all the staff and admin, we look forward to your return! To our incoming Grade 9s and new students, we are delighted to have you join our Chinguacousy family!
“New” high school parents, I know you’re getting ready for what could be the most exciting and important years your teen spends in school. For the first time, they will have to make choices about what they study along with the career path they want to pursue. Whatever the decisions, we want to make sure your entire family is ready to meet the challenges and embrace the many opportunities that await your teen upon graduation. The Parent’s Guide to High school will provide you with a snapshot of what you need to know to help them be successful. Please visit www.peelschools.org/parents/helpyourchild/parentguide
Tuesday, September 3rd is the first day of school for Grade 9 students ONLY. Orientation activities led by our Link Crew leaders will begin at 8:00 am in the gym. These Link leaders will continue to support your Grade 9 student throughout the year with academic goal setting and student engagement in co-curricular activities. ALL students will begin classes on Wednesday,
September 4th
, 2019.
For everyone’s safety, I ask that you’re all extra diligent during morning drop off and after school pick up. To avoid accidents, you are NOT to turn left from the front of the school to the traffic lights at posted times. Please read the signs carefully. A safe practice is to drive as far to the west end of the school as possible before you drop off your child – a little walking is good for their physical fitness even during bad weather. This will keep the congestion away from the traffic lights. Again, this is for everyone’s safety. If you really want to beat the last minute rush, dropping them off at least 20 minutes before school starts is best. Please see map on reverse.
To stay up to date on school news and events, follow us on twitter @chinguacousyss or visit www.chinguacousyss.com. Should you have questions or concerns regarding your child’s academic progress and career planning, guidance counsellors are on hand to provide assistance. Ms. Fletcher (ext. 409) will be happy to direct your call as appropriate. Of course, your child’s subject teacher is another source of support.
I look forward to yet another year where together, we Belong with purpose, Succeed with support, Excel with character.
Wishing you all a wonderful August. See you in September.
Sincerely,
Ms. Mork-Gerra, Principal

Dear Families:
Each school year, we advise parents/guardians about our use of student information for school-based activities. Examples of those activities are listed below.
Post your teen's schoolwork in the school's front foyer and/or hallways. Please note that your teen’s name may appear next to the piece.
Include your teen's full name on awards/trophies that will be kept in the school's front foyer and/or hallways.
Include your teen’s full name and/or photograph in school programs or student awards (e.g. commencement or graduation programs, school plays and musical productions, school brochures, and honour roll), and school yearbook.
Use photos and/or videos of your teen in the school’s newsletter, website and/or social media accounts, as well as the board’s website, social media accounts and internal publications, in relation to school activities, school work, or special achievements. Your teen’s name and grade may also be mentioned.
Have your teen recorded or photographed by a teacher, volunteer or student teacher as part of the learning program. These photos and videotapes may be used within the school or board, and may appear on school/board websites and/or social media accounts, including but not limited to Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube.
Have your teen recorded, photographed and/or interviewed for media stories throughout the school year. This does not include photographs taken for political purposes (e.g. for politician’s newsletters). The images and/or audio may be used in local, national or international news stories about school programs, initiatives, awards and/or events. Your teen's full name and image may accompany the story.
In providing this consent, I acknowledge that any photos/videos posted on the board’s website or social media accounts may be widely circulated to the public, and may be viewed by anyone with access to the Internet. If I provide consent, and then later revoke my consent, I acknowledge that although the photos/videos will be removed from the board’s websites and social media accounts, it may not be possible to remove all traces of personal information from the Internet.
If you do not wish for your teen to be included in these activities, please complete the form below. This notification will be effective during the current school year.
If you have any questions, please contact me at the school at insert number.
Sincerely,
Ms. Mork-Gerra, Principal
