Thought for this week….by Rev. Michelle Martin

I recently read the following in a book by Milton Jones . . .

“Sometimes religion can seem like the last person in a long game of Chinese whispers. Once Jesus said ‘Love God and each other’, and now we have the Easter Bunny!!!!”

As we continue to celebrate the wonder and joy of Easter, we need to really listen to those familiar stories of the risen Jesus showing himself to his disciples, and to see in these stories not only the great joy of the disciples, but the challenge for them to share what they have seen – to take the good news and make it known to all those they meet.

We too have been called by God – to go, to share what we have seen, to make the good news of the risen Jesus known amongst our families, friends, communities, and to everyone we meet.

We need to be the people who change this game of Chinese whispers around – for how will people know the true meaning of Easter unless we tell them?

I leave you with some words from a well-known hymn which you may wish to use as a prayer – a response to God’s call to go, to share and to transform our world.

“Here I am Lord, Is it I Lord?I have heard you calling in the night.

I will go Lord, if you lead me.I will hold your people in my heart.

Amen.

St John’s Church Spring Fair

Saturday 7th May10am - 2pm

The PCC are aware that we have been struggling recently to keep the church as clean as we would all like. The Standing Committee have agreed that we will arrange for a cleaner which would mean a weekly cost of £30. We will pay for this from general funds, however we would ask you to consider if you can increase your giving to help cover the cost. We plan to review the situation in three months’ time, to see if this is affordable and sustainable in the longer term.
