Community Grant
In 2011 we applied for
and were successful in
receiving a grant of
$1100 from the City of
Greater Bendigo to
‘computerize Bendigo
Chaplaincy Committee’.
Subsequently we have
purchased a new laptop,
software and accessories
to update our IT. This is
the first newsletter pro-
duced using our new
computer.
Many thanks to the City
of Greater Bendigo for
making this grant
available.
We were pleased to re-
ceive a cheque presented
by the Mayor of the
time, Rod Fyffe
(pictured above).
AGM and Dinner
On the 25th May we are
to conduct our annual
dinner and AGM. This is
not a fundraising occa-
sion but rather a chance
to highlight the work of
our chaplains and
chaplaincy in Bendigo.
This year our guest
speaker is Cannon Dr
Evonne Paddison who
is the
CEO of
ACCESS
ministries.
We are
asking that
bookings
and pay-
ment for the AGM be
made early, with the fi-
nal date for payment be-
ing Monday, 21st May.
Cost for the evening is
$25 and can be paid in
cash, by cheque or mon-
ey order and forwarded
to Ray Harvey, 9 Samuel
Court, Bendigo. At the
AGM an election of of-
fice bearers and general
committee members for
the ensuring twelve
months will be held. The
positions of Events Co-
ordinator and Newsletter
Editor also need to be
filled. Please use the tear
-off section at the back
of this newsletter should
you wish to submit nom-
inations.
Fund raising
continues to be
a focus for our
committee.
Once again we
thank Bill and
Helen Farrow for their
willingness to act as
Quiz Mas-
ter and
scorer for
our Trivia
Night.
Please note that
payment for the AGM
dinner is required with
reservations.
Closing date for
reservation and
payment is Monday 21
May.

Recognition of service to Bendigo Chaplaincy Committee
The Chaplaincy Committee has seen a number of
changes since our last newsletter. There have been
three resignations from the Committee, Ma-
jorie Johnston, Gwen Bradbury and
Clare Bellamy (pictured at right
with Rosalie). Each of these
ladies has made a signifi-
cant contribution to chap-
laincy in Bendigo but for
differing reasons have
found it necessary to cease
their involvement as a Com-
mittee member. We thank them
sincerely and trust they enjoy the
other interests they pursue in the future.
Amongst the chaplains there have also been some
changes. Currently there is not a chaplain at Bendigo
Senior Secondary College since the resignation of
Kelvin Curnow, and Sue Edgar resigned
her position at Strathfieldsaye and
Camp Hill. Valerie Baker
(Golden Square Primary
School) has been on
sick leave in Term 1,
and is presently under-
going further treat-
ment. Wendy Kofoed
has been appointed as
chaplain at Golden Square
during Valerie’s absence.
Please remember Valerie in your
prayers.

BENDIGO ACCESS MINISTRIES CHAP LAINCY COMMITTEE P AGE 3
CRE & Chaplaincy Celebration and Commissioning Service
Our guest speaker at the CRE and Chaplaincy
Celebration and Commissioning Service was
the newly appointed General Manager at
ACCESS ministries, Justin Simpson. Justin has
family ties with Bendigo: he is married to the
daughter of Pauline (nee Burns) and Keith
Crothers. Some of our readers may know his
in-laws. That’s Justin on the left in the back
row.
On Justin’s left is our Regional Support Man-
ager, Glenn Arnott. Glenn is becoming a famil-
iar face to us as he supports our chaplains.
Fund-raising
Sausage siz-
zling seems to
be a handy way
of raising a few
dollars.
Pictured left is
our chairman,
Ray, cooking
the snags, while chaplain, Narelle Hewitt is as-
sisted by Eril Daenke in keeping the customers
happy. The committee appreciates the support
of helpers who can be called on for special
events.
Trivia Night
Our annual Trivia Night, held in conjunction
with the Eaglehawk Dahlia and Arts Festival
continues to be our major fund-raising event for
the year. This year we added a new dimension
with the sale of balloons for $5 a pop. Each bal-
loon contained a numbered ticket that corre-
sponded with a number on an item on the table.
Some items were valued at $20, $30, $40 so
there was plenty of incentive to have another go!
Thanks to friends and local businesses who do-
nated goods for prizes.
Greg Harris, one of the minis-
try team at Holy Trinity wel-
comed everyone and brought a
word of encouragement.
We were blessed to be led in
worship by Steve Johnston,
with Jaclyn McKinnon on
keyboard and Steve Wiekhardt
on drums.
Following the service we en-
joyed afternoon tea and a
chance to get to know one an-
other better.
