Overview
The Bentley Substation Options dialog allows the user to adjust several different settings within
the software. After all the options have been adjusted, the profiles can be saved. This allows
multiple options profiles to be defined and then recalled as need.
Drawing Standards
Within the Bentley Substation Options dialog there is a page named Drawing Standards.
This page allows several drawing standards to be defined.

Drawing Naming Convention
The name of the drawing file can be defined by the user. Drawing file names can be created
using several different descriptions variables.
è Exercise: Modifying Drawing File Name
1. Open page 1 of ADMIN project.
2. Change focus to the Project Manager and select Options from the Tools menu.
3. In the Options dialog select Drawing Standards.
4. On the drawing standards page, click Edit in the Drawing Naming .
5. On the dialog that opens, add the Installation and Location variables to the expression.
6. Change the order of the terms so that the expression matches the following:
[Drawing Set]‐[Installation][Location][Page Number]
Note: The file name cannot contain the following reserved characters \ / : * ? < > |
7. Click OK to close the Drawing Name Convention dialog and click OK to close the
Options dialog.
Electrical Standard
Allows the user to select what electrical standard should be used within a project. It is
recommended that the electrical standard remain constant in a project. It is however,
possible to change the electrical standard between different projects.
Default Units of Measure
Allows the user to select what units of measurement should be used within a project. It is
recommended that the drawing units remain constant in a project. It is however, possible
to change the drawing units between different projects.
Note: This setting will affect the Default units when creating a new report, the graphical
plan and when entering symbol creation.
Device Appending Setting
Allows the user to control if appending, as described in a previous course, should be allowed
for device families. The user can determine if Appending should be disabled completely or if
appending can be performed only on Parent symbols or only on Child symbols.

Primary Mode
Allows the user to set what the primary mode will be when creating drawing pages. In
addition, any Device ID assigned to a symbol in the primary drawing mode will be used in all
other drawing modes when alternate representations of the symbol are placed.
Default Project Properties
The Default Project Properties tab of the options dialog is broken into three tabs.
Page Layout Options
Page Macro
Allows the user to define a default macro to be placed when a new drawing page is created,
this default can be overridden on the new page dialog. The macro will be placed at the
bottom left corner, the 0,0,0 point, of the drawing page. Any macro from a loaded symbol
catalogs can be used as a page macro. If the macro contains symbols with Device IDs, the
Device IDs will be regenerated using the currently defined format. The user will be able to
step through the symbols in the macro like the normal macro placement procedure.

Title Block
The Default title block can be selected form the symbol catalogs and defined in this field.
The default scale of the drawing page can also be defined.
Page Format Options
The default page format can be defined by selecting the item from the drop down list. Page
formats are stored in the Substation data folder by default. Along with defining the page
format, the user can also define how many digits should be displayed on the drawing page
for the page format. The user can also determine whether the page name should be
included in the format. The Option Continuous Line Numbers will set the page format
numbering to increment across multiple pages. If the option is not set, the line numbers will
restart on every page.
Part Options
Default Parts Database
Allows a parts database, other than what is in the setup dialog, to be selected and used for
the project. The parts database will be need to be mapped in the setup dialog before it will
appear in the drop down list. The Edit Filter button can be used to create a custom filter on

the database. The filter will be applied to all the part number searches used within the
project.
Equipment Number Exchange Preferences
The preferences will set a default replacement priority for the equipment numbers. The
default priority can be overwritten if needed when the equipment number exchange is run.
BOM Entries
At the bottom of the dialog, there is a toggle to delete records from the BOM when the last
symbol is deleted. If this toggle is unchecked, when the last version of a symbol is deleted
from the project, the part number assigned to the device will remain. In the BOM explorer,
the device will be listed as an unplaced device.
Project and Page Descriptions
The number of page or project descriptions can be set by the user. There is no maximum or
minimum limit to the number of descriptions. When creating a title block, the project and
page descriptions in the currently active project will be available for use.

è Exercise: Modifying Drawing File Name
1. Open page 1 of ADMIN project.
2. Change focus to the Project Manager. In the Project Manager, select Options from the
Tools menu.
3. Select the Default Project Properties page, and select the Descriptions tab.
4. Click the green plus for the Page Descriptions to create a new description.
5. In the dialog the enter Page Scale and click OK.
6. Click OK to close the Bentley Substation Options dialog and save the change.
Display Formats
As discussed in a previous course the display format page of the Bentley Substation Options
dialog allows for the customization to the Device ID display format. This page of the Options
dialog also allows the user to adjust the options such as if the Device IDs should be case
sensitive. If the Device IDs are not case sensitive, then the user must specify if the ID should
be converted to uppercase or lowercase letters.
Above the uniqueness toggle, another toggle will set if the device ID of a symbol should beadjusted to reflect its new location when a symbol is moved.
Nested Device ID applies to symbols that have been placed inside of a symbol on the Fly.
The user can decide if the software should display the full combination of the symbol on the
fly tag plus the tag of the symbol being placed. Alternatively, if only the partial tag is
needed, only the device ID of the nested symbol is displayed.
è Exercise: Displaying a Nested Device ID
1. Open page 1 of ADMIN project.
2. Change focus to the Project Manager and select Options from the Tools menu.
3. Select the Display Format page and check the box to Enable Device ID Nesting, then
select the Complete Tag option.
4. Click OK and return to the drawing page.

5. Select the option Symbol on the Fly (E+6+1) and define the two corners of the symbol
on the fly.
6. In the Device Properties dialog, define the Device ID as D104.
7. Open the Insert Symbol By Name (E+3) dialog and located the symbol CB1.
8. Place the symbol inside the symbol on the fly previously placed, accepting the default
Device ID.
The Device ID of the circuit breaker contains the device ID of the symbol on the fly. The
display toggle setting in the Bentley Substation Options dialog allows the user to adjust
whether both parts of the device ID should be displayed or if only one Device ID is
displayed.
Balloon, Grind & Snap, Region Settings, and Text Settings
Balloon
In the Bentley Substation Options dialog there is a page named Balloon. This page allows
the user to set if balloon numbers will be unique across a project, an Installation, a Location,
a combination of Installation and Location, or if no limitation should be placed on the
balloon numbers. The table in the middle of the page allows the user to define the size of
the balloon and the size and style of the text. There are three toggles on the page: one will
clear all balloon numbers assigned to part numbers, one will display a separate balloon if
there is a quantified part number, and one will scale the size of the balloons by the pagescale.
Default Grid & Snap Settings
In the Bentley Substation Options dialog there is a page named Default Grid & Snap
Settings. This page allows the user to set the default values for the grid size for a given
drawing mode. The check box Enable Grid/Snap Lock will determine if the grid lock should
be enabled by default for a given drawing mode. Under the Seed File column the seed file
used when a new page is created can be selected. The drop down list is populated with theseed files stored in the following folder: \Substation Data\Templates\Page.
Note: When in the symbol creation wizard the grid spacing will match the default value that
is defined for the Schematic drawing mode.
Note: The seed file that will be used for the symbol creation wizard can be defined on the
System Paths tab of the Bentley Substation Setup dialog.

Region Settings
On the region settings page, on the Currency tab, the user can define the number of decimal
places and the style that currency should have in the software. On the Date & Time tab, the
format for the date and time can be selected.
Text Settings
On the Text Settings page of the Bentley Substation Options dialog the user can define the
standard text settings for several different types of text. The Text settings defined on this
page will override any text that was defined in the definition of a symbol, and will override
any text already placed on the drawing pages in a project. For each type of text, the user
can determine if the text style and the text height should be applied independently. In
addition, the text can be set to automatically scale based on the page scale factor.
User Options
The User options of the Bentley Substation Options dialog, allows user specific options to be
set.
Startup Interface – Sets weather the Project Manager or the Welcome dialog opens by
default when Bentley Substation starts.
User Name – Allows for an alias to be entered, the default value matches the current
windows login name.
Validation Prompts –
Multi Document Options: If enabled, the user will be prompted to save a
drawing page when opening a different page.
Enable Command Log: If enabled, the user can define a path where a text file
will be generated containing the sequence of commands used in the software.
Prompt for Maintaining Device ID: If checked, the software will prompt the user
if device ID and wire numbers should be maintained when copying drawing
elements between different drawing pages.
Run Engineering Design Considerations: If checked, the user will be able toselect which of the Engineering Design Consideration checks should be run
when a drawing page is closed.
Suppress Duplicate Terminal Number: If the terminal Numbers entered in the
list are duplicated on a drawing page, the user will not receive a prompt.

View Options – Allows for the display of tooltips to be disabled. The display setting toggles
that are in the S group in the schematic design task are replicated on this page and their
default state can be set. In the navigation portion, the user can set the zoom factor when
the software navigates between linked symbols. The button at the bottom of the page will
allow a user to reset all dialog boxes in the software to their default configuration.
Saving Options
The Bentley Substation Options dialog is divided into three portions: System options, Project
options, and User options. Each of the three parts can be saved independently. Once the
options are saved, they can be distributed to different workstations independently or placed
on a network.
As will be discussed later in this course it is possible to set the default options, when
creating a new project, to match one of the saved options profile.
è Exercise: Save an Options Profile
1. Open page 1 of ADMIN project.
2. Change focus to the Project Manager and select Options from the Tools menu.
3. Select Save Disk in the Project Options header, on the left side of the dialog.
4. In the default folder, \Substation Data\config\options\, save the project options with
the name: Sample_Project_Options.

The 3D Layout Settings dialog contains two tabs: Project Settings and User Settings.
Project Settings* will be applied to the current project, for all users.
Field values can be changed using this dialog, as required. Click once inside any empty field, and
enter an appropriate value. Click & drag to highlight and revise any existing value. Click “Apply”
and then click “OK” to exit.
*Settings are stored in TDSProjectSettings.xml, in the project directory

Overview
When a new drawing page is created, two items are automatically placed on the
drawing page a title block and a page format. The title block contains the page and
project descriptions variables that are visible on the drawing page. The page format
sets the size and orientations of the drawing page and any line numbers and column
letters that are needed.
Title Blocks
Title blocks are stored in catalogs just like Symbols and device families. Title blocks
are created in the Title block Designer, located under the Manage workflow, then
on the Drawing Management task.
When entering the title block designer, the page and project description variables
that are defined in the project options for the currently open project will be
available to be placed.
Title Block Variables
Title block variables are text elements that are placed on the title block and will be
used to display information on the title block. The variables are broken into sixdifferent categories based upon where the variables are gathered from the project.
The System level variables allow for the address file to be placed on the title block
and for the user to include a date and time print stamp by using the Today and Now
variables.
The Project level variables allow for the project descriptions to be included on the
title block. The project descriptions defined in the project active before the title
block designer was opened will be available in the title block designer. This group
also contains variables to display the project level revision information on the title
block. The variables Projecet.TotalPages and Project.LastPageNo can be used todisplay the desired page number format on the title block.
The Drawing Set, Installation and Location groups each contain five description
variables for each level of the project. The groups also contain variables to display
the total number of pages in the group to be used as a page count on the title block.

The Page variables allow for the page level descriptions to be displayed on the title
block. The page descriptions defined in the project active before the title block
designer was opened will be available in the title block designer. The group also
contains the page level revision variables. Variables are also available to display the
page creation date, and the page name.
Page counts
There are several different variables that can be used to create the page count.
Variables allow the user display the total number of pages in a Project, Drawing Set,
Installation, or Location. By using the desired variable there is great control and
flexibility in how the page name information can be displayed on the title block.
è Exercise: Modify a Title Block
1. Open page 1 of the ADMIN project.
2. In the Task dialog switch to the Manage workflow and select the Drawing
Management task.
3. Select the option Title Block Designer (E).
4. In the existing title block field, enter the name: D‐SIZE MODERN ZONE.
5. In the Page format field, select from the drop down list D‐0COL. Leave the toggle
set to ANSI‐IEEE.
Note: The Title Block designer is a pallet and can be set to lock open or auto hide
based on the setting of the lock toggle in the lower left corner.
6. Click Next to continue and place the variables on the drawing page.
Note: You can place the variables and to draw any graphical lines that are
required as part of the title block. For a complete description of every variable
please refer to the Bentley Substation User Guide.
Note: The Graphical lines can be drawing using the standard CAD drafting
commands.
7. Expand the Page header and locate the variable Page.Description_001(Description). With the variable selected, press the Place button and align the
text below the text PAGE DESCRIPTION.

8. Returning to the Title Block Designer press the Select Texts button and select the
variable just placed on the drawing page.
9. Click Edit to open the Edit Text Format dialog. In the dialog change the values
indicate below:
Font Name: Arial
Height: 0.2
10. Click OK and in the Title block Designer click Apply Text Style to Selected Texts.
Note: It is possible to modify the text styles first and then place the text with the
desired text style.
11. Click Edit again and change the Text Align to Center Center.
12. Remaining under the Page header and locate the variable Page.Description_008
(Page Scale). With the variable selected, click Place and align the text below the
text SCALE.
Note: When placing the variable a portion of the text will over right the variable
current placed in the title block. With the Text alignment set to middle center
the variable will be replaced in from the center out. Since the page scale will
only be a few digits wide, the overlapping text will not be an issue.
13. Continue and save the Title block with the same name. Click YES when asked to
overwrite the existing title block.

Address File
When creating a title block, under the system variables are 20 address variables.
The address file allows the user to define up to 20 lines of an address. The lines of
the address file can then be included in title blocks or as part of report templates.
Multiple address files can be defined in the Bentley Substation Options dialog and
the user can select which file should be loaded in the active project.
Note: The address file can be used to store any information that is required. It is not
limited to only display address information.
è Exercise: Changing an Address File
1. Open page 1 of the ADMIN project.
2. Change focus to the Project Manager and select Options from the Tools menu.
3. In the Options dialog select Address File.
4. From the drop‐down list, change the active address file to Bentley (US).
5. Click OK to save the changes and close the Options dialog.
Page Formats
Page formats determine the size and shape of the drawing page. Any row or column
numbering will also be defined within the page format. Page formats in Bentley
Substation are constructed in the Page Format Designer, which is accessed from the
Manage workflow in the Drawing Management task. Page formats are made up of aseries of boxes, each box represents either a specified row number or column letter.
The boxes for row numbers and column letters must be perpendicular to each other
and boxes of the same type cannot overlap. Page formats by default are stored in
PageFormat Folder in the Bentley Substation data folder.
è Exercise: Create a Page Format
1. Open page 1 of the ADMIN project.
2. In the Task dialog switch to the Manage workflow and select the DrawingManagement task.
3. Select Page Format Designer (W).
Note: The Page Format Designer is a pallet and can be set to lock open or auto

5. Select the predefined page size as D (34.0 x 22.0 in.).
6. In the Select Title Block field enter the name D‐SIZE MODERN ZONE.
7. Click Text Settings and change the Height to 0.2 then click OK to save the
change.
8. In the Region Size area enter the X value as 34 and the Y value as 3.
9. Check the Array Region box and click Draw Line Number Region. Define the
placement of the region as the left edge of the page in line with the edge of the
title block. Place the text in the center of the region in between the edge of the
page and the title block.
10. Make the end point of the array as the bottom left corner of the page.
Note: When complete there should be 7 regions on the drawing page. If the
array has placed too many regions, the extra regions and there text can be
deleted. If too few regions are placed, additional regions can be placed in the
same manner.
11. Click Next to continue to define the zone regions in the page format.
12. Click Text Settings and change the Height to 0.2 then click OK to save the
change.
13. In the Region Size area enter the X value as 3 and the Y value as 22.
14. Check the Array Region box and click Draw Zone Region. Define the placement
of the region as the top edge of the page in line with the edge of the title block.
Place the text in the center of the region in between the edge of the page and
the title block.

15. Make the end point of the array as the top right corner of the page.
Note: When complete, there should be 11 (A‐K) regions on the drawing page. If
the array has placed too many regions, extra regions can be deleted. If too few
regions are placed, additional regions can be placed in the same manner as
previously.
16. Click Validate.
17. Save the page format with the name and description below:

Description: ANSI D‐SIZE ZONE, ALPHA ON TOP, NUMERIC ON SIDES
The page format created in the previous exercise has row numbers and column letters

Overview
Within Bentley Substation there is the ability to have predefined phrases placed in a
project and display up to three different languages simultaneously on a drawing.
This list of phrases can be expanded upon by the user to account for phrases that
are needed in their industry. New languages can also be added if necessary.
Using Language Text
Language text in Bentley Substation is placed on a drawing page by using the Bentley
Substation Multi‐line text command. Once placed, the selected phrases can be
displayed as up to three different languages simultaneously.
è Exercise: Placing Language Text in a Project
1. Open page 1 of the ADMIN project.
2. From the Schematic Design task, select the command Multi‐Line Text (A+1).
3. Following the prompts in the status bar, define two corners to place the text box
in the right column of the drawing page.
4. In the Multiline Text dialog, click Search Language Phrases to view the list of
phrases.
5. Locate and select from the list of phrases Motion Controller item number 30,click OK to add the assign the phrase.
Note: The Motion Controller is the language phrase variable. Additional text or
characters can be used before or after a variable.
6. Click Search Language Phrases again, locate and select from the list of phrases
ON item number 17, click OK to add the assign the phrase.
7. Click OK to finish place the text on the drawing page.
The default langue in the software is English. The toggle to change the current
display language or to switch to different display languages is made in the Bentley
Substation Options dialog.

è Exercise: Changing Display Languages
1. Continue on page 1 of the ADMIN project.
2. Change focus to the Project manager and select Options from the Tools menu.
3. In the Options dialog select the Display Languages page.4. Leave English Set as Language 1. Change Language 2 to French and Change
Language 3 to Italian.
Note: The Russian and Chinese language phrases are not defined using the
English standard Latin alphabet. If the correct alphabet is not loaded on a
workstation, the languages will not display properly.
5. Click OK to save the changes and return to the drawing page.
The drawing page that the second language, French may have an asterisk in a word.
This occurs when the current font does not support the needed accent mark.
Language Text in Symbols
When saving a symbol with the symbol creation wizard, the last step has a button
labeled Search Language Phrases. Pressing this button will allow the user to include
the language text phrases in the symbol description. The same button also appears
in the create macro dialog so that the phrase can be included in a macro description
as well. When creating a Device Family in the Family Description Editor dialog
pressing the ellipsis will allow for the selection of langue phrases.
Language text can also be used when entering values into a symbol attributes.
è Exercise: Using Language Text in a Symbol
1. Continue on page 1 of the ADMIN project.
2. From the Schematic design task, select the command Insert Symbol By Name
(E+3).
3. In the name field enter the name PBNO then click Place Symbol and place the
symbol in the right column of the drawing page below the language text
previously defined.
4. Click OK and in the Device Properties dialog to accept the default Device ID.
5. In the Symbol Text dialog, right‐click on the prompt Function Text. A Context
menu opens with the option Language Text.

Modifying the Language Text Phrases
It is possible to modify the translations of a given phrase or to create entirely new
phrase and translate them into the required languages. If required, new languages
can be entered in the available list of translations.
Language Database Manager
New languages and new phrase are created in the Language Database Manager.The language database manager is located in the Admin Management task under
the Manager workflow.
The left half of the dialog contains all the current language phrases. At the top of
the Phrases section, the user can select which language they would like to view. By
making use of the Add and Delete button at the bottom of the phrases section,
language phrases can be added or removed.

The Right half of the dialog displays the selected phrase in every language. The Add
and Delete button at the bottom of the Languages portion of the dialog allow the
user to create or remove languages form the list.
With a desired phrase selected in the phrases portions of the dialog, the translations
can be changed in any of the listed languages in the languages portion of the dialog.
è Exercise: Adding a New Language
1. Continue on page 1 of the ADMIN project.
2. In the Task dialog, select the Manage workflow. Then select the Admin
Management task and choose the option Language Database Manager (W).
3. In the right half, Languages, portion of the dialog click Add.
4. In the field that displays, enter the name of the new language: Dutch.
5. Press the Enter key on the keyboard to add the language to the list.
When a new language is added to the list all the translations are blank and will need
to be defined by the user.
è Exercise: Adding a New Translations
1. Continue in the Language Database Manager(W).
2. In the Phrases portion of the dialog, select English from the drop down list.
3. Locate phase 17 In the list of phrases.
4. Once the phase is selected in the Languages portion of the dialog locate the
Dutch field and replace the current value with Aan.
5. Locate phase 30 Motion controller in the list of phrases.
6. Once the phase is selected in the Languages portion of the dialog locate the
Dutch field and replace the current value with Bewegingscontroller
7. Click OK to save the changes and close the dialog.
8. Change focus to the Project Manager and, select Options from the Tools menu.
9. In the Options dialog select the Display Languages page.
10. Change Language 3 to Dutch and click OK to return to the drawing page.

button only two languages are displayed. This is because only two phrases were
translated in the previous exercise.

Management task and choose the option Language Database Manager (Q).

Overview
Substation equipment often requires external hardware items for assembly,
mounting or connecting. This includes items such as nuts, bolts, clamps, connectors,
etc. Values for labor, construction equipment, volumes and units can also be
included. Each individual item has its own unique part number and groups of part
numbers are often referenced to as a single part number, or an “accessory kit”.
Instead of assigning individual components (nuts, bolts, and clamps) to every piece
of equipment in the substation, you can assign an accessory kit that contains all of
the components. These accessory kits are created and managed by the Bentley
Substation Accessory Kits Manager.
Each component within an accessory kit will have its own entry in the parts
database, and each entry must include values for the following fields:
• Part_Number
• Quantity_Per_Unit
• Use_Unit
• Detailed_Description 1
Each Accessory Kit will also have its own entry in the parts database; links to the
components within each kit are defined in a separate database table.
Each piece of equipment that requires an accessory kit can use the Additional_Part
field in the parts database. This field will link the accessory kit to the equipment.
The Additional_Part field will support multiple accessory kits if required.

accessory kits.

Search Kits
The Search Kits section, found on the top left, is used to create or find existing
accessory kits. When creating an accessory kit, you must have a value for each of
the five dropdown boxes. If you are trying to find an existing one, you can either
select it from the Accessory Kit dropdown or you can use the other dropdowns first,
which will act as filters and allow you to find the accessory kit easier.
Part Numbers
The Part Numbers section, found on the top right, is used to search the master parts
database for items to include with an existing accessory kit. The dropdown boxes
act as filters for the part numbers list. With the last dropdown box, you are able to
change to the column you want to filter for. Then in the text box next to it, as soonas you type, a filter will get assigned to the part number list and the display will
update.
Kit Parts Assigned
The Kit Parts Assigned section, found in the middle, reveals the part numbers that
are already assigned to the selected accessory kit. For each part number, you can
also specify a few things:
Quantity – The amount of part numbers.
Fixed/Variable – Fixed is used when there is a fixed quantity of the part number
when associated with a fixed or variable device. Variable is used if the quantity
is to be multiplied by a variable objects’ length, such as curbs for roads or wire
for fences.
Grouped By – Indicates if the part number should be grouped with the main part
in the BOM or grouped together with others from unrelated accessory kits.
Main Report – This allows you to filter the part numbers into different reports
for the different aspects of construction.
Report Chapter – Each report is broken into chapters and this specifies which
chapter the part number will be in.

Import, Backup and Update Tools
This section, found at the bottom, provides single‐click tools for managing accessory
kits:
• The Import Kits tool will import kit data from an existing XML file*.
• The Backup Kits tool will create a backup XML file*. If the XML file already
exists, this tool will export kit data to the existing XML file*.
• The Update Current Project Kits tool will update accessory kits used in the
current project, from the XML file*.

Overview
Construction drawings are assembly drawings that contain information about parts,
but have no intelligent objects placed. The parts shown can, for example, be a
foundation, structure, or a circuit breaker. Some dimension elements, texts, etc. to
clarify the assembly also usually appear on the drawings. Using the Construction
Drawings Manager, a user can assign construction drawings to a part number. This
will allow the user not only to import any construction drawings that are assigned to
parts used in a project, but also modify some of a part number’s details.
Bentley Substation construction drawings are stored in a separate project named
“Construction Drawings”, and represent typical detail drawings for items such as
foundations, structures and assemblies. These files can be corporate standards,
vendor drawings, or both.
Let’s take a few moments and review some of the drawings in the Construction
Drawings project:
1. CONSTRUCTION DRAWINGS/Constr Drw 1/(2) PILES
This is a detail fabrication drawing of a standard concrete foundation
2. CONSTRUCTION DRAWINGS/Constr Drw 1/SPS2
This is manufacturer’s data sheet drawing of a circuit breaker

This is a detail assembly drawing of a typical bus support structure
The drawings in the Construction Drawings project are typically “standard” designs
that rarely change from project to project. Bentley Substation provides additional
tools to easily copy and modify the standard designs into unique project‐specific
detail drawings for construction.

part numbers.

Part Numbers
In the Part Numbers section, located at the top of the dialog, you can search for a
part number to make changes to or add construction drawings to. The Category,
Discipline, Manufacturer, and Description 1 dropdown boxes all act as filters for
the part number list on the top right. The last dropdown box also works as a filter.
You can select any column from the parts database that you want to filter on and as
soon as you type into the textbox next to it, the list will filter. To select a part
number, just highlight it from the list and it will appear in the Part Number Details
section.
Part Number Details
In the Part Number Details section, located at the bottom left of the dialog, you canmake changes to some of the part number’s attributes and assign construction
drawings to the part. The + button will open the Construction Drawing Locator
dialog, which allows you to assign construction drawings. The – button will remove
any selected drawings from the list. The construction drawing list shows the project,
drawing set, and page name of the drawing and also lists if it’s a macro or drawing
file. Using the Backup Drawings Data button will allow you to create an XML file* of
all the part numbers that contain construction drawings, which can then be
imported to any machine using the Import Drawings Data button. The Apply Text
Changes button will save any changes to the part number and will update the parts
database. To cancel and changes made for a part number, use the Cancel button.

Construction Drawing Locator
In the Part Number Details section, click the + button to open the Construction
Drawing Locator dialog. The locator allows you to select construction drawings
within projects. Sometimes some construction drawings may be used in more than
one project. If this is the case, it may be beneficial to create a standalone project
that only contains construction drawings. The CONSTRUCTION DRAWINGS project
found in the dataset is an example of this.

For the Construction Drawing Locator dialog, the top left box contains all of the
projects you have access too. If the project contains any type of page, expanding
the project node will reveal all of the drawing sets in the project. If the drawing set
contains any construction drawings, you will be able to expand it and select the
name of the construction drawing.
Once selected, a preview of the drawing will appear in the window on the right.
Clicking Add Drawing will add the construction drawing to the list on the bottom
left. The Remove Drawings button will remove any selected construction drawing
from the list. Clicking OK will add any selected construction drawings to the list in
the Part Number Details section of the Construction Drawings Manager. The Cancel button will cancel any selections made and will return to the Construction
Drawings Manager.

Copy Construction Drawings To Project
The Copy Construction Drawings To Project tool is used to actually import or “copy”
construction drawings into the current project. This tool will open the following
dialog:
In this example, the top two construction drawings (for devices FN400.19 and
BS400) appear in “GREEN” text, indicating that these drawings have already beenimported into the current project. The construction drawing for device CB106.1
appears “RED”, which indicates several things:
1. A 3D symbol representing a circuit breaker has been placed in the project.
2. This symbol was assigned with Device ID “CB106.1”.
3. A part number “3DCB‐SIE‐SPS2” was assigned to this symbol.
4. A construction drawing named “SPS2” is assigned to this part number, but has
not yet been imported or copied into the current project.
Clicking the “Import New” tool will copy the construction drawings from the
construction drawing project into the current project.

construction drawings in the current project. Clicking the Place Labels tool will open

Overview
It is possible to restrict access to commands within Bentley Substation. This is
accomplished by using the command protection functionality built into the software.
The command protection function allows different user roles to be defined. Then
using the user’s Microsoft Windows login credentials different users will be allowed
access to different roles.
Command Protection
The command protection function in Bentley Substation, allows administrators to
restrict access to certain commands for a select user base. Different levels of
command protection can be set based on the Windows user login credentials. Thismakes it possible for users to be placed in a Bentley Substation grouping to receive a
given access level. The command protection controls are accessed from the Bentley
Substation Options dialog, under the System options section.
The command protection controls are broken into two parts, Manage Users and
Manage Roles. The Manage Users page allows for the creation of Bentley Substation
users and the role to be defined. The manage roles page allows for the different
access levels to be set.
Manage Users
At the top of the Manage Users page is the toggle that will enable command
protection in the software.

Additional users can be added to the list by selecting the Add button at the bottom
of the dialog. Once the users are added, the user name and the role can be
selected, a drop down list allows for the selection of a role that was defined on the
manage role page.

Manage Roles
The roles determine which commands a given user has access to.
Note: The administrator role has access to every function in the software. It is
recommended that this role is not altered to prevent accidental lock out of
functionality within the software.
Pressing the Add button will allow for new roles to be created. The Modify button
will open the Edit Role dialog.
In the Edit Role dialog, the commands in the software are subdivided into groups.
An entire group can be selected or unselected. By expanding a group, individual
commands can be added or removed from the group.
