Introduction

LetterofWelcomefromthePastorandHeadofGovernorsDearParents,

AsthepastorofBereanBaptistChurch,Iwanttothankyouforallowingustheprivilegetoministertoyourchild.ThegoalofourAcademyistoprepareourstudentsintellectuallyandspiritually.Wedesirethatourstudentswillbesuccessfulinthecollegesandcareersthattheychoose.Wealsodesirethattheyfindsuccess,astheBibledefinesit,intheirserviceofKingJesus.

OurpriorityistoprovideanenvironmentwhereyourchildcanreceiveanexcellenteducationfromaBiblicalworldview.WemakeeveryefforttoequipourstudentswithallthattheyneedtodothewillofGod,bythegraceofGod,tothegloryofGod.

ItisimperativethateverystudentwhoattendsourJuniorHighorSeniorHighalsofaithfullyattendsourchurchoroneoflikefaith.ItisaprivilegetoattendBBA,andstudentswhorefusetoembracethestandards,values,andbeliefsweholdtobetrue-willnotbepermittedtoreturn.

TheBiblestates,“…athreefoldcordisnoteasilybroken.”Whenahome,church,andChristianschoolareunifiedintheirdesireto“trainupachildinthewayheshouldgo,”thatchildwillbewellpreparedforafuturecommittedtoglorifyingGod.Webelievethatthefinalyearsofhighschoolarecriticalandstillformative;therefore,itisimperativethatourstudents’parentsfullysupporttheobjectiveofthechurchandschool.

AstheLowerSchoolPrincipal,Iwanttothankyouforgivingustheopportunitytoeducateandtrainyourchildoutsideofthehome.

WearedelightedtohaveyourchildattendingBereanBaptistAcademy(BBA).TheprimaryobjectiveandpurposeofBereanBaptistAcademyistoprovideasafeChristianenvironmentwhereboysandgirlscanbecomegrowingdisciplesofJesusChristwhilebeingacademicallytrained.TheteachersofBBArealizetheirsolemnresponsibilitybeforeGodinmoldingthelifeandcharacterofeachoftheirstudentstogiveagoodfoundationforeachchild’sfuture.

Theentirelowerschoolteamisabsolutelycommittedtogivingyourstudentanoutstandingeducation.Wewillutilizeallavailabletimeandresourcestodailygiveyourstudentaqualitylearningexperience.

History of Berean Baptist Academy StevenByrd,theformerpastorofBereanBaptistChurch,foundedBereanBaptistAcademyin

1975.Theacademystartedwith38studentsinlimitedfacilities.Presently,BereanBaptistAcademyoperatesinthefollowingthreelocationsontheBBCcampus:astand-alonepre-school,anelementaryandmiddleschoolbuilding,andmodularclassroomsforthehighschool.Theacademyhastwoplaygrounds,amultisportgym,andamultisportathleticfield.TheAcademymaintainsanenrollmentofapproximately400studentsannually.InJanuaryof2016,BereanBaptistAcademybrokegroundonanewelementarybuildingwithaprojectedcompletiondateintheFallof2017.

Statement of Faith

BereanBaptistAcademy,asaministryofBereanBaptistChurch,believesandteachesthedoctrinesoftheChristianfaithasembracedbythehistoric,Biblical,Baptistposition.

WebelieveintheverbalinspirationandauthorityoftheScriptures.WebelievetheBiblerevealsGod,thefallofman,thewayofsalvation,andGod’splanandpurposeintheages.WebelieveintheDeityandvirginbirthofJesusChrist.WebelievethatGodjustifiesbyfaithalone,andaccountsrighteousnessbythemeritofourLordandSaviorJesusChrist’ssubstitutionaryatonement.Webelievethatsalvationis“bygrace”plusnothingandminusnothing.Theconditionstosalvationarerepentanceandfaith.Webelieveinthevisible,personal,andpre-millennialreturnofJesus.Webelieveintheeverlastingconsciouspunishmentofthelost.

BereanBaptistAcademybelievesintheverbal,plenaryinspirationoftheBible.TheEnglishStandardVersionistheofficialtranslationfortheacademy.However,BereanBaptistAcademywillhonoranyfamilywhochoosestousetheKingJamesBibleastheirpreferredEnglishtranslation.

Purpose ThegoalofBBAistoproducegrowingdisciplesofJesusChrist,whorecognizeGod’spresencein

everyaspectoflife,areacademicallypreparedforlifeafterhighschool,arecapableofdiscerninggodliness,anddesiretoserveChristbyservingotherswiththeirlife.

Philosophy TheschoolisanextensionoftheChristianhomeandchurch,notareplacementforthem.Itis

importantthatchildrenmatureinaChristianhome,faithfullyattendaBible-believingchurch,andreceiveaChristianeducation.Assuch,BereanBaptistAcademyoperatesinconjunctionwiththehomeandchurch.Therefore,weencourageregularchurchattendanceforthestudentandhisfamily,whichwillbetterpreparethestudenttoexcelintheacademicsetting.

Leadership

Pastor ThepastorofBereanBaptistChurchistheheadofallministriestoincludetheacademy,asaministryextension.HeoperatesastheChairmanoftheSchoolAdvisoryBoard.HeisresponsibleforensuringthattheSchoolAdvisoryBoardoperateswithintheirdesignatedroleasanadvisoryboardandasthedirectlinesupervisorfortheHeadofSchool.ItisPastor’sresponsibilitytocastthevisionfortheacademyandtoapprovetheschool’smissionandphilosophyofoperations.

SchoolAdvisoryBoardTheroleofourSchoolAdvisoryBoardistosafeguardthevisionandmissionoftheschool.The

BoardprovidesthePastorandtheHeadofSchooladviceonthegoalssetfortheschool,andonthedailyoperationsoftheschool.Theboardisnotresponsibleforthedecisionsthataffectdailyoperation.

HeadofSchool TheHeadofSchoolisadirectemployeeofthePastorofBereanBaptistChurch.HeshallbetherepresentativeofthePastorinrelationswiththefaculty,staff,studentsandthepatronsoftheAcademy.TheHeadofSchoolisdirectlyresponsibleforthedailyoperationsoftheacademy.TheHeadofSchoolshallselectandhireappropriatelyqualifiedpersonstoserveasmembersofthefacultyandadministration.TheHeadofSchoolshallhavedirectsupervisionofthefacultyandstaffandshallcoordinatetheactivitiesoftheentireorganization.TheHeadofSchoolshallholdregularmeetingsofthefacultyandstaffandseethatthegeneralpoliciesofthePastorareunderstoodandfollowed.

•ToprovidetothePastorofBereanBaptistChurchdifferentscenariosandpossibilitiesfortheboardtoconsiderasitdoesitsworkfocusingonthefutureoftheschool.

•ToworkwiththePastorofBereanBaptistChurch,itschair,anditscommitteesincarryingoutestablishedschoolpolicies;toreviewthosepoliciesandmakerecommendationsforchanges;toattendmeetings,preparereports,maintainboardrecords,andkeeptrusteesinformedonallaspectsoftheschool’soperation.

•Tosuperviseallprogramsoftheschool(academic,athletic,ethical,andotherextracurricularprograms);tomonitorcurriculum,grading,testing,andreportingtoparents;toprepareforandconductperiodicprogramevaluations;tosubmitreportstoexternalagenciesasrequired;toestablishdisciplinarypoliciesandstandardsofconduct.

•Torepresenttheschooltoallofitsconstituentsincludingneighborhood,parents,students,alumni,businesscommunity,faculty,andstaff.

•Tosupervisethedevelopmentdirectoranddevelopmenteffortstocultivateandeffectgeneroussupportoftheschool.

•Tohandleallmattersregardingemployment,retention,anddismissalofpersonnel;salariesandcontracts;jobassignmentsandperformanceevaluation;andorientationandtraining.

•Toprepareemployeehandbooks,andmaintainappropriatepersonnelrecords.

•Torepresenttheschoolinitsrelationswithstateandfederalagenciesandwithlocal,state,regional,andnationaleducationalorganizationsandaccreditingagencies.

•Tosupervisethecollegecounselorinplanningforanappropriateprogramforcollegeguidanceandcollegeadmissions.

•Toactasliaisonwiththeotherorganizationstoensurefulfillmentoftheschool'scontractualobligations;tocoordinateschedules,arrangeforrentals,andcoordinateprocedureswheretheinterestsofbothgroupsareinvolved.

•Tosuperviseand/orassistwithallotheraspectsoftheschool’soperation,including(butnotlimitedto)facilitiesmaintenanceandoperation,foodservice,transportation,summerprograms,developmentandfundraising,andalumniaffairs.

•Tooverseeschooltransportation,includingtransportationroutes,schedulesandcontractsandtoassesstheperformanceofthetransportationcompanies.

•Tooverseeandcoordinatetheworkofthesecretarialstaffandsupportstaff.

PrincipalsThelowerandupperschoolprincipalsreporttotheHeadofSchool.Eachprincipalischargedwith

thecomprehensiveresponsibilityforallactivitiesinvolvingstudentsandfacultyintheirrespectivedivisions(pre-school,elementaryschool,middleschool,highschool).Theirspecificresponsibilitiesincludethefollowing:

● Tomaintaincongruencybetweentheschool’sapprovedmissionstatementandallactivitiesofthatdivision.

● Toactastheeducationalleaderoftheschooldivision,responsibleforitsday-to-dayoperation;todirecttheactivitiesofthefacultyand,inconjunctionwiththebusinessmanager,thebusinessstaffintheperformanceoftheirduties.

● Tofunctionasthechiefarticulatorofthatdivision’sprograms,expectations,behavioralguidelines,andotherinformationnecessarytoensurethatallconstituenciesarefullyinformedconsistentwiththeirindividualroles.

● Toobserve,supervise,andhelpevaluatethefacultyinthedevelopmentandimplementationofcurriculum;tosupervisetheteachingprocess,andtoreviewandevaluatetheacademicprograms.

● ToleadtheAcademicPolicies/CurriculumCommitteeinthearticulationoftheschoolmission,schoolgoals,departmentgoals,courseobjectives,materials,methodsandmeansofassessment.

● Toprovideanorderly,controlledenvironmentinwhichlearningcantakeplace,aschoolclimatewhichissupportiveandwhichreflectshighmorale.

● Tobeawareoftheeducational,physical,social,andpsychologicalneedsofthemembersofourschoolcommunityandtodevelopplansformeetingtheseneeds.•

● Toconductregularmeetingswithfacultywhichwilldealbothwithroutineschoolmattersandwiththestimulatingexchangeofideasonissuesofeducational/philosophicalinterestandconcern.

● Tooverseethecoordinationoftheco-curricularandextra-curricularactivityprogramsoftheschool;toassistintheplanningandthepresentationofschoolassembliesandprograms;toassistinmaintainingacomprehensivecalendarofschoolevents;tokeeptheentireschoolcommunityinformedofvariousschoolprogramsandactivities.

ThedirectorofschooladvancementreportstotheHeadofSchool.Responsibilitiesincludethefollowing:

● Todevelopawidevarietyofwaystocommunicatewithallalumni,includingviatheInternet.

● Toplan,organizeandimplementreceptionsandreunions.● Toresearchandprofilethebackgroundofallalumni.● Tocreateandoverseetheschoolarchives.● Toplanandexecuteprogramsthatenhancespublicperceptionoftheschool.● Toinitiateandleadactivitiesintendedtointerestparentsinsendingstudentsto

independentschools:pressreleasesonevents,anddaytodaycontactwiththenewsmedia.

● Toidentifyemergingmarketingstrategies,testtheireffectiveness,andreportontheirresults.

● Tooverseetheprogramofadmissionsofnewstudentstotheschool.● Topresenttheschooltoprospectivestudentsandparents,whichincludessystematic

andefficienthandlingofapplicationsandcommunicationwithcandidatesandtheirparents;interviewwithcandidateandtheirparents;arrangementsforadmissionstesting;securingofnecessarystudentcredentials;andcommunicatingfinaldecisionstotheappropriateindividuals.

● Toevaluatecontinuallyandredesignwhereappropriateallaspectsoftheadmissionsandmarketingprogramwiththegoalofmaintainingacapacityenrollmentofqualified

studentsandawait-listofqualifiedapplicantswhichconsistofatleast10%ofthemaximumclasssizeforeachgrade.

● Tomanagethere-enrollmentofcurrentstudentsforthesucceedingyear.● Tooverseethenetworkofparents,formerparentsandalumnitoassistinthe

admissionsprogram.● Tokeeprelevantstatisticsonallaspectsoftheadmissionandre-enrollmentprogram.● Torepresenttheschoolatvariousgatheringsandconferences.● Todeviseandmanageaprogramdesignedtoattractthemaximumgiftsupportpossible

totheinstitution.Thisprogramwillincludeannualfundsolicitation;plannedgivingprograms;corporateandfoundationproposals;andplanningformajorcapitalgifts.

● TokeeptheHeadofSchoolinformedonaweeklybasisofthefund-raisingactivitiesofthisoffice.

● Todevelopaplantoincreasealumniandparentalsupportof,andinvolvementin,theinstitution.

● Todevelopandleadavolunteerstafftocarryouttheactivitiesofthisoffice.● Toprovidestrategicleadershipintheareaofinternationalstudents.● Tosupportandmanagetheactivitiesofhostparent,student,andfaculty/staffgroups

whosepurposesandgoalsarerelatedtointernationalstudents.● Toactasaresourceoninternationalstudentsissuesforfacultyandstaffintheirwork

withstudentsandintheirdevelopmentofcurriculumandprograms.● Toactasaliaisonbetweentheschoolandthevariousexchangeprogramsinsupportof

theschool’scontinuedefforttoservethesecommunitiesbetterandtosupporttheschool’soutreachandadmissionsmarketingandrecruitmentprograms.

● ToperformotherdutiesasassignedbytheHeadofSchool.● Tosupporttheschoolanditsleadership.

DirectorofAthletics

ThedirectorofathleticsisresponsibletotheHeadofSchool.Hisresponsibilitiesincludethefollowing:

● Toleadbyactivityandexample,todevelop,organize,superviseandevaluatetheentireprogramofintramuralandinterscholasticathleticsfortheentireschool.

● Toensurethatallcoachesareperformingtheirdutiesattheveryhighestlevelofprofessionalism.

● Toensurethatallcoachingpositionsarefilledwithcompetentcoacheswhoareproperlytrainedinallorganizationalandphilosophicalaspectsoftheathleticprogram.Inthisconnection,heorshewillparticipatewiththeHeadofSchoolandtheadministrativeteaminemploymentdecisionsandfacultyassignments.

● Toensurethepropermaintenanceandsecurityofallathleticequipmentandathleticfacilities,fieldsandcourts,workingincoordinationwiththedirectorofbuildingsandgrounds.

● Toorganize(andsubmittothedirectorofmarketing)regularinformationofthevariousprogramsforpublicrecognitionsofathleticachievements.

● Toprepare,submit,andadministerabudgeteachyeartofundtheathleticprogramsoftheschool.

● Toprovidetheschedulingofallathleticcontests,arrangeforathletictransportation,andhireallgameofficials.

● Torepresenttheschoolatvariousstate,regionalathleticassociations.● Tomaintainrecordsofteamandindividualathleticaccomplishmentsandsubmitcopies

ofsametothedevelopmentofficeforhistoricalpurposes.● Tomaintainandrevisethecoaches’manualeachyearandsetupappropriatemeetings

withthecoachestoreviewtheinformationandstandardsindetail.● Tohelptoorganizeandcoordinate,withtheprincipalsofthedivisions,theoff-campus

BoardMembersandPurpose BereanBaptistAcademyhasavoluntaryPTOprogram.ThePTOexiststoprovidesupporttotheBBAfacultyandadministration.ThePTOboardconsistsofapresident,vice-president,treasurer,secretary,parentliaison,andteacherliaisons.ThePTOmeetsatleastquarterlytoplanandcoordinateeventsthatsupporttheschoolandassistinfundraising.ParentVolunteers InconjunctionwiththePTOboard,theacademywillmaintainalistofvolunteerswhoarewillingtohelptheschool.Ifyouareabletovolunteer,andwouldliketobeaddedtothelist,pleasecontactamemberofthePTOboardortheschooloffice.Wedorequireallvolunteerstodressaccordinglyandactinaccordancewiththeacademy’sstandards.AllvolunteersmustgivepermissionforacriminalbackgroundchecktobeconductedbeforevolunteeringatBereanBaptistAcademy.SpecialMeetings

ParentOrientation ParentsareexpectedtoattendaParentOrientationnightbeforethenewschoolyearbegins.Ifthisprovestobeimpossible,amake-uporientationmustbeattendedwithinaweekofstartingschool.

AllOtherPrograms ParentsareencouragedtoattendtheChristmasProgram,theSpringParent’sMeeting,sportingevents,andotherprogramsorconferencesastheyarescheduled.
