The girls C-hockey team of SCCharlottenburg from Berlin wascompletely re-clothed in Septembersince they have now outgrown theAVS-jerseys from a year earlier.
The AVS managing directors JensSelling (AVS Lehrte GmbH) andDieter Berghaus (AVS HoldingGmbH) did not want to miss out andhanded over the jerseys personally tothe sports club team in Berlin.
We wish our AVS-team of SCCharlottenburg continued success!
Mobile congestion warning signs with LED
Our lightest crash barrier: ProTec 50
Mobile crash barriers in constructionareas significantly improve road safety.Their guiding effect protects motoristsagainst lane departure and driving intooncoming traffic. They also contributelargely to work safety on constructionsites. The new mobile crash barrier ProTec 50with a planning-related width of 10 cmand a weight of only 28.7 kg per meteris the most recent addition to the provenportfolio of ProTec products. Thisinclusion to the ProTec family is current-ly our most narrow and lightest mobilesafety device and is based on the well-known benefits of the tried and testedProTec 100/120/160 systems. Due to thesmall space required the ProTec 50 isideal for the ZTV-SA-D area of applicati-on (between opposing traffic flows) andalso due to its effective range W2.

Informing road users with active mobileLED variable message traffic signs, which can influence the traffic dependingon the situation, make sense directlybefore and inside of the constructionareas. Our partner company, MIS GmbH alsoprovides mobile congestion warningsigns - rather than static prism signs - inbright light and flexible LED technologyfor rent. Fully automated, the specialdetectors (measuring cross sections) ofour mobile LED congestion warningsigns continuously monitor the number ofcars and trucks and their speed. Theparameters resulting from this data suchas the density of traffic and the currentlevel of congestion are continuouslycalculated and signaled immediately ifnecessary via the warning signs (displaycross-sections) using bright light. The signs are easy to read from far awayas "risk of congestion" or "congestion."This dynamic and effective technologywarns road users early on and in real timeif there is congestion ahead, e.g. at aconstruction site.
Of course standalone measurement cross-sections (MQ) for the navigation of one ormore lanes, and also combining displaycross-sections (AQ) and MQ are possible. The mobile LED congestion warningsigns are connected via the Internet withtheir own MIS traffic control center. Inthis way, all operating statuses, registeredtraffic data and the signal patterns of thesigns are displayed on the web interfaceand monitored accordingly, including the
current battery status. The customer canaccess this information at any time via theInternet and influence, with theappropriate authorization, the automaticsequence of the individual display cross-sections even when not on-site. The MISGmbH offers its mobile informationsystems to interested authorities andcompanies for rent on a nationwide basis:

Ms. Veronika Basse is also celebrating tensuccessful years. Her painstaking effortensures that the finances of AVS Overathare always in good order.Award recipient Steve Lieber is alsocelebrating ten years with the AVS team.He is responsible for the commercialmanagement of the "mobile crash barrier"product range and is our expert contactperson for all questions and concernsregarding this subject. His responsibilitiesinclude cost estimation, preparation ofoffers and calling for tenders. He is alsosupported by Mrs. Schurig during theextensive preparation phase of projects.Manfred Schmitz is celebrating his 25-year anniversary this year. He is a powersystems electronics technician who worksfor Berghaus in the electrical workshop. There, under his direction a wide range ofconstruction light and dual warning lightsystems, illuminated arrows, cautionblinking and flashing lights in halogenand LED technology, as well as severalmobile traffic light types such as the MPB1400 and the MPB 3400, are produced.Ten years ago, Thomas Lieth began hisprofessional training at our company as apower systems electronics technicianworking his way through all of thedepartments of production and service. This is how he learned "traffictechnology" from the ground up. Today,he not only fits our warning trailers withthe necessary control electronics and light
technology for multiple purposes, he isalso active in the production of mobilehalogen and LED-illuminated arrows andin the production and service of ourmobile MPB 4400-traffic lights as well. The award recipient Andreas Heeg alsostarted working at Berghaus 25 years agowhen he began his professional trainingas a power systems electronics technician. His responsibilities include not only theproduction of our large EPB crossroadscontrollers and the control of the FG-2-pedestrian unit, but also the productione.g. of components for the SMSmonitoring and fire department-prioritysystems. Due to its extensive know-howhe is often employed in other productionareas as a substitute for personnel onvacation. With a short personal speech themanaging directors thanked the awardrecipients for their longstandingcommitment and presented certificates ofrecognition as an expression of gratitude. All colleagues joined in by extendingtheir congratulations before theanniversary celebration gave way to acongenial atmosphere with a lavish buffetand one or more draft beers flowing fromthe tap.Of course, friendly get-together was alsoused by the circle of Berghaus and AVScolleagues for a cheerful exchange ofideas and information among pro-fessionals.

90 Years of Know-how in Traffic Technology
Anyone entering the business of mobiletraffic light technology involving theflow of crossing traffic for the first time,or anyone wishing to modernize hisexisting hire pool or wanting to ex-pand must anticipate high levels ofinvestment:High performance traffic light con-trollers, the latest 40-volt LED tech-nology, radar detectors, video detection, traffic light connection cable, requestbuttons for pedestrians, blind systemswith acoustic modules and tactile signalheads, SMS reporting and remotemonitoring, various fixed mast systemsfor overhead cables with or without anarm for signal heads, and many otherthings for portable traffic lights thatconform with the current state oftechnology and the requirements of theclient, can be very expensive.Over the long-run can anyone afford torefuse jobs - perhaps by major customers- or not to accept large jobs for examplebecause the outdoor fixture available inthe hire pool does not have a furthertraffic light controller?Everyone knows that money is not madewhen the hire pool stays in thewarehouse! But what can a person do if he is currentlynot willing or able to invest in a trafficlight controller? Rent? Purchase byinstallment? Financing? We would like to help you make thisdecision and offer an interesting concept:You rent from Berghaus - directly fromyour manufacturer - a controller, forexample, the "EPB 48" for up to 24 signalgroups. We then credit the rentalpayments in full if you decide to purchase
the equipment later. Unlike a pure rentalsolution your money is not lost atBerghaus! How many times have you been annoyedbecause the initial brief constructionperiod planned was unexpectedlyextended and it would have beenmuch more economical in the endhad you purchased your equip-ment instead of just renting it?With our offer you are completelyflexible and can decide during theongoing rental period (max. ofone year), on a daily basis, whether it would be better topurchase the traffic light con-troller. Such a purchase becomesinteresting especially if the rentalconstruction period is suddenlyextended and the cost of rentingincreases. With our service we not only supportexperienced traffic safety professionals, who have been relying on Berghaus forover 45 years, but we also want to provideinitial assistance to those entering theintersection technology business for thefirst time.We are happy to create the signaltimetable, write the signal time programand even provide remote programmingupon request. With our offer you remain flexible, canrespond immediately to large jobs, do notlose rental income, and can also decide ona daily basis whether to rent or upgradeyour hire pool by purchasing your ownequipment.
Please contact us, we will be happy toprovide you with a customized offer!

With a mixture of theory and practice our traffic light training provides a foundation in mobile
traffic light technology. Practical applications and the exchange of professional information
between the training instructors and the participants reinforce learning further.
The new "Remote control / remotemaintenance" is a combined hardwareand software solution that enablesconvenient remote access to the EPB 12 /EPB 48-traffic light control devices. The data is transmitted via the GSMnetwork using a phone card from anyprovider. An Internet connection is notrequired. This enables communication inplaces where UMTS or EDGE is notavailable. Automatic status informationper SMS can be transmitted to severalparticipants from the traffic light controldevice if desired.By selecting remote control all thesettings, which might otherwise becarried out locally on the controller, canbe adjusted at any time - for example:system status query in plain text display,LED status display of all signal groups ata glance, display of the signal inputs, summary of faults, switching betweendifferent signal programs, manualswitching of signal groups, shuttingdown the traffic lights and much more. The remote maintenance of the traffic
lights is also performed with the familiarAmpelTools program. This is easy andsimple and can be carried out from anyplace where a mobile phone network isavailable. All program data can beretrieved during ongoing operation fromthe system. Parameters can be changed ornew programs imported. This makes is possible, among otherthings, for the "traffic light specialist"from your workshop to actively supportthe on-site service engineer duringmaintenance or debugging. And if morehelp is needed, and you tell us the numberof the traffic light controller and the PINcode, we as the manufacturer can accessthe traffic lights for you and have one ofour technicians from the factory provideassistance. With the new remote control / remotemaintenance systems you save effort, time, and money. They allow you to quickly influence thecontrol of the traffic lights as if you werealready on-site and can be very practicaltools.
Convenient remote control / remote maintenance
Arranged clearly at first glance,
as if one were on-site, the entire
front panel of the traffic light
controller EPB 12 and 48 is
viewed with all controls. With
computer mouse and keyboard,
the controller can be conve-
niently operated remotely.
Programs can be read-out of the
current controller, modified and
then re-imported via remote
maintenance using AmpelTools
and other software. It is also
possible for us as the manu-
facturer to actively support the
service engineer on-site.
New: wireless GPS flash running light system
Blinking and flashing light actively alertsmotorists, well in advance, of pendinghazards, road construction, changes inthe traffic situation, accidents or relatedrescue operations. The new wireless, GPS-controlledrunning flashlight systemfrom Berghaus with itsguiding light is idealfor quick and clearrecognition of safe-guarded traffic.
Each lightis equipped with itsown GPS receiver, which automaticallysynchronizes the order ofthe individual lamps in awireless connection of runningflashlight, anywhere in the world.Up to ten lights can be placedarbitrarily in a row as a runninglight guide. The second-pulse isdefined via satellite. This timing isreceived by the Berghaus electronics ineach lamp, so it is impossible for therunning light system to drift apart. Each flashing light is equipped with asingle power LED (60 fl./min.).Flashlight with or without back-fittedcontinuous light, pure beacon lightfunction without flash (also availableonly for the first light in the chain), night-time reduction to 50% brightness, dayand night operation, or automatic switch-on at dusk and much more can be selectedseparately for each light. Each light has its own battery for powersupply. Therefore all lights operateindependent of the running light effectand can be used as single stand-alonelights.
The customer can choose betweendifferent versions depending on thedesired application. We recommend theversion with an integrated battery for useon directing beacons (depending on
country-specific requirements). For fast traffic safeguarding and
traffic control, there is theBerghaus GPS electronics,
available of course ontraffic cones or on a solid
4-piece battery case.
Whether as a singlehigh-intensity LED
flash or in combi-nation with severallights as an auto-matic LED guidelight, with wirelessBerghaus GPS elec-tronics you canquickly and easily
alert drivers to ac-cidents and hazardous areas and clearlyindicate the right direction.
Berghaus GPS
electronics are
available for quick
traffic safeguar-
ding and traffic
control. They can
be installed on
traffic cones or on
a solid battery
case.
Even when using only three
lights the advantage of the
automatic running flashlight
effect with its guiding light
is easy to see.

ProTec 100 in Austria and Scandinavia
In spring we introduced for the first timeour mobile crash barrier ProTec 100 atthe transport technology trade fair"Intertraffic" inAmsterdam. The responsefrom our customers at home and abroadregarding the new addition to the "ProTecfamily" was very positive. The compactdesign, the narrow planning-related widthand the small effective range - W1 atcontainment level T1 and W2 at T3 - andthe lowest ASI value "A" of the ProTec100 were all very compelling. In just a very short time nationalauthorizations for the ProTec 100were granted in Denmark, Sweden,Norway and Austria. Approval foruse was granted in Austria by theBMVIT (Federal Ministry forTransport, Innovation and Tech-nology).As a result, the ProTec 100 of ourpartner the Wieser Verkehrssicher-heit GmbH in Wals, was used onthe A14 Rhine Valley motorway in
Vorarlberg for demarcation of a 600meter long construction site andconsidered a "Premiere in Austria." Thejunction "Klaus," which was previouslyrestricted, will be converted by thesummer of 2013 into a unrestrictedjunction.Even in Scandinavian countries ProTec100 was quick to persuade theauthorities. This was evidenced by therapid approval for national use of ourmobile crash barrier system inDenmark, Norway, and Sweden:Now our partner Brodrene Dahl AS inNorway is currently renting out overten kilometers of ProTec 100 and also
offers it for sale.In Denmark our business partner theTrafficsA/S is currently safeguarding anumber of large construction sites withseveral kilometers ProTec 100.The new ProTec 100 is being usedsuccessfully for safeguarding traffic inSweden as well. Our partner ATA Bygg-och Markprodukter AB is currentlysupervising several projects in Stockholmand southern Sweden.

After four years ofconstruction, it is done:The six-lane expansionof the A1 motorwaybetween Hamburg andBremen, the so-called"bird flight line" iscompleted. On 11 October 2012 thesection between themotorway interchangeBuchholz (A 261) andthe Bremer intersection(A 27) could be re-opened to traffic. Both the capacity and traffic safety of the72.5 km long motorway section have beenpermanently increased as a result of thiswidening and complete overhaul. Wealready reported in the Berghaus Newsthat theAVS Lehrte GmbH with its officesin Bremen and Hamburg have beencharged by the Consortium A 1 Hamburg– Bremen with safeguarding the traffic forthe motorway expansion in this major PPPproject. The "Traffic Safety Professionals“ havedone justice to their AVS slogan: Allphases of construction, there were a totalof 26 or 13 in each direction, werefinished "under rolling wheels." Allsections were completed while main-taining the flow of traffic as 4 +0 trafficrouting. This kept traffic impairment to aminimum on the A1 between Hamburgand Bremen with a traffic volume of about70,000 to 80,000 vehicles per day whichis quite high.At times a large amount of material wasrequired simultaneously to safeguard thetraffic. For example, during the re-construction project one half of the entiresection was temporarily blocked-off onboth sides with beacons. This resulted in atemporary beacon chain with a totallength of 145 kilometers. To ensure thesafety of road users and workers, AVSsimultaneously positioned at times up to62 kilometers of mobile crash barrierswhich of course were maintained,
continuously adjusted as constructionprogressed, and repositioned whenevertraffic was rerouted. This took place 24hours each day during the entireconstruction period.Approx. 312 km of cold spray plasticand marking foil were applied in the26 sections and demarcated again, ifrequired, with the AVS-Jet Peel in mannerthat conserved the surface of the road. The entire traffic safeguarding operationwas maintained around the clock by theservice teams from the two AVS officesStuckenborstel (branch Bremen) andSeevetal (branch Hamburg). Inspectiontrips, maintenance, and repair work werecarried out several times a day.A total of 114 full motorway closureswere carried out by the AVS team duringthe new construction of the 36 overpassand 38 underpass structures.Redirection signs were produced indi-vidually and securely placed in an uprightposition on a large scale. The traffic in theredirection area was controlled by severalmobile traffic lights, some of whichcovered major intersections and includedpoles and wiring for up to 24 signalgroups.Comprehensive traffic safeguarding froma single source. With this large multi-yeartraffic project, the AVS was able to showonce again that it is a strong, experiencedand reliable partner, or simply put a
