Middle School Scholars’ Academy
BERKELEY
UC Berkeley’s SPEAR is a unique six-week
summer program specifically designed for students
entering 6th grade. The program will focus on
developing students’ critical reading and writing
skills, honing their conceptual understanding of
mathematics, and building effective study strate-
gies. SPEAR will provide a supportive and engaging
learning environment where students can discover
their love for learning.
SPEAR scholars enroll in four courses:
literature and writing, pre-algebra, study
strategies, and physical and mental agility.
To help prepare for the shift between elementary
and middle school settings, students will change
classes throughout the day with each teacher spe-
cializing in a different subject.
Location:The program is held at the ABSW Building, 2606 Dwight Way, Berkeley, CA, next to the UC Berkeley campus.
Who Can ApplyStudents entering the 6th grade in fall 2011 with a C average or better are eligible to apply.
