Berkshire Boys Lacrosse Winter Newsletter February 2015 Meet the Staff In addition to a new Head Coach, the Bear’s squad is excited about its two Assistant Coaches this season. Chris Perkins will begin his first year with the Varsity program as the Offensive Coordinator after serving as the Head Coach of Berkshire’s JV team in 2014. A 1992 graduate from Connecticut College, he was a three-year starter at midfield, captained the team as a senior, represented the school in the NEILA Senior East/West All Star Game, and still holds the program’s career ground ball record. Andrew Barter will enter his second season with the Varsity squad in a new capacity as Defensive Coordinator. A 2000 graduate of Gettysburg College, he was a senior captain, a three-time All-American, the first back-to-back Centennial Conference Player of the Year, the NCAA Division III Goalie of the Year in 1999, and a three-time All- Centennial Conference First Team selection. He continues to be the all- time conference leader in save percentage and goals against average. In 2013 he was inducted into Gettysburg’s Hall of Athletic Honor. New Season, New Gear Thanks to a generous gift, the Bears have made the switch to Nike this year. The team will begin their 2015 campaign with new Nike Vapor uniforms for both home and away contests as well as Cascade R helmets in matte grey. Winter Training for Spring Training While all boys trying out for the Varsity team are engaged in different sports and activities this winter, they are all working diligently to achieve one of the levels of success for our strength and conditioning test in March before our preseason trip to Arizona. From March 15 th to the 20 th Berkshire will travel with Hotchkiss, Groton, and Newark Academy for a week of training hosted by Trilogy Lacrosse in the desert outside of Phoenix. While the Bears are excited to have East Coast traveling partners, they are even more eager to compete against some of the top competition west of the Mississippi.
