How Does EGR Work?

During certain conditions of engineoperation, required amounts ofcooled exhaust gas are routed tothe intake manifold. The cooledexhaust gas mixes with the incoming fresh air and displacessome of the oxygen. With less oxygen in the air, the peak temperatures created in the combustion chamber are reduced, and the levels of NOx are also reduced. The lower thetemperature, the lower the production of NOx.

How A Reed-Valve Works

The Reed-Valve is a one-way “door” that allowsexhaust gas to flow into the intake manifold butprevents air in the intake manifold from flowingback into the exhaust system. Pressure peaksin the exhaust manifold open the Reed-Valves.

Reed-Valves are used on MBE 904, MBE 924and MBE 926 engines. The MBE 906 doesnot incorporate Reed-Valves due to its“tuned exhaust”.
