Churchill Retirement Living is a privately-owned family-run company, specialising in developing purpose-built one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments for the over sixties.

The organisation has built more than 160 retirement developments designed to take away the hassle and fears that can be experienced by older people and provide security, peace of mind and independence.

Churchill Retirement Living has an ambition to be the UK’s most successful housebuilder and has put in place five core principles of trust, openness, respect, communication and honesty to help it achieve this. Wellbeing is important to Churchill, with free health screenings offered to all every three years to enable employees to take active management of their health and wellbeing.

An employee assistance programme, open to everyone, is provided by an independent organisation that works to a robust professional code of confidentiality.

Opened in 1998, Tommies Childcare provides early years education for children aged 0-5 years over eight sites based across Coventry, Warwickshire and Derby.

With a change in its management team in 2015, Tommies decided to take the company in a new direction that placed employees at the heart of the business.

New recruits joining Tommies join a group of passionate, committed and supportive employees who all have a desire to work towards the company vision.

While the business has various initiatives to support employee engagement individually, one of its most effective initiatives is quarterly Listening Lunches, designed to gain feedback on how employees not in management positions feel within their roles and across the workplace.

SF Recruitment is the leading specialist recruiter in the Midlands, helping clients of all sizes, find great people from all backgrounds to fill permanent and interim roles across finance, technology, office support, HR, procurement, supply chain, and engineering.

To succeed at SF, you must have energy, ambition and a level of curiosity that stands you apart from your peers. The business is unashamedly unconventional and enjoys working with people who like to test the limits of what is possible to ensure that they can keep growing, learning and developing.

In return for the effort and commitment of employees, SF works hard to invest in developing both recruitment skills, and later, leadership skills. SF wants employees to become well-rounded business people as well as exceptional recruiters.

National construction contractor Willmott Dixon Construction delivers building projects in education, leisure and culture, hotels, offices, custodial, health, retail, national frameworks and residential for government and local authorities.

Culture and family values are at the heart of the business, with the group chief executive keeping a keen interest in the lives of employees and offering support during challenging times.

Giving opportunities for personal growth is valued by the business, with its MyLearning scheme giving the opportunity for workers to create and share playlists on learning they have found invaluable, whether it be a book or a TED talk. The business also places importance on going the extra mile, encouraging measures that contribute to looking after the environment. Those employees who choose low emissions company or private cars receive generous green bonuses.

Childbase Partnership aims to be the preferred provider of childcare and education within the communities their nurseries serve and the preferred employer of childcare professionals.

Employees follow the four core principles of people matter, quality matters, sustainability matters and communication matters, while, in turn, the business operates under the banner ‘we all contribute, we all benefit’. This has resulted in a variety of initiatives including an annual profit-share scheme and a dedicated training day and toolkit to help managers support colleagues living with a mental health condition.

Wellbeing is essential in continuing to provide first class childcare and the company aims to break down stereotypes around mental health and ensure everybody is actively encouraged to talk about their feelings.

What is RBCI?The Regional Best Companies Index (RBCI) is the most academically rigorous way of measuring engagement. Using the Best Companies b-Heard Survey, employees are asked to score 70 questions on a 7 point scale from ‘Strongly Disagree’ to ‘Strongly Agree.’

The results are then calculated from the responses to 49 scoring questions aligned to the 8 Factors of Workplace Engagement. The final score is normalised for company size and calculated out of 1000.
