    LITERATURE REVIEW.

GENERAL CONCEPT OF DESIGN.The stages of drawing development where

drafters and designers are involved they usually

consists of three phases namely:Schematics drawings

    Preliminaries (design development) drawing

    Final working drawing

    SCHEMATICS DRAWINGS.

A schematic drawing is a drawing that shows you the

parts of a system without going into too much detailso as to overwhelm the person who is viewing the

drawing. This is the first phase of building

    construction drawing.

    PRELIMINARY DRAWING

Preliminary drawing phase is the second phase of the plan

development. Preliminary drawing gives you the chance to

see the building plan before all of the technical information is

added. These are primarily singleline drawings showing

architectural and engineering design in greater details.

Note; the information shown on preliminary drawings must be

sufficient to describe the project adequately.

    FINAL WORKING DRAWING

The working drawings includes all the information needed toobtain a building permit. This section will deal with architecturaldrawings as listed below:

DESIGN FACTORS OF THE BUILDINGDesign of buildings depends on quite a number of factors such

    as :

    Land area available

    Fund resource available

    Availability of materials to be

    employed

Requirement of the users of the

    building

    {D.N.GHOSE (1987) Civil engineering

    drafting and design}

    PROPER ORIENTATION IN BUILDING DESIGN

For proper orientation in building design the followingare the factors to consider:

    Easy access to all spaces

    Adequate ventilation of airand light

    Safety and securityMaximum utilization of

    space

    DIMENSIONS

All drawings that are drawn to scale must show the

scale used in the appropriate location, adjacent tothe portion scaled.

    SCALE

In order to illustrate a building on a handy sized

sheet, the building must be scaled down to the

appropriate size to fit on the sheet properly.

    SITE LAYOUT

Site layout is an important phase of any

construction activity from beginning to the

end. The impact of good layout practices in

terms of time, money and construction

efficiency increases with the size of theproject.

    SITE RECONNAISSANCE

The site reconnaissance phase of a site investigation

is normally in the form of a walk over survey of thesite. It must contain sufficient information aboutdistribution of activities that may be present within a

    given area.

    DATA ANALYSIS

Percentage of the area occupied by the building against thearea of the site is obtained by taking the area of thebuilding dividing by the area of the site times one hundred.

    Therefore:

    Area of the site 7429000000

    Area of the building 5525000000

    Percentage of the area

    5525000000/7429000000 * 100 = 74.37%

  • 7/30/2019 BEST MLAY.23

    31/48

    DATA ANALYSIS

Therefore since the percentage of the area is

less than 100% hence the building will fit to

the area of the site which is proposed.
