Useful for understanding what will needs to be converted to overlays or custom objects

when upgrading to 7.604

AR custom applications need to be converted into an overlay or new custom object. There

are some exceptions to this core server objects that should not be customized anyway. It

also does not work on custom object built and inserted through the back end.

e.g. Asset management object is customized- base application setthis can be saved by

creating an overlay object, and AR system maintains the stock object so future upgrades

arent impeded.

Comes from installation media - for customer. For us, the developers network. There is a

directory on the installEnsure that you have the latest version of the overlay hash file. This gives the latest version

of all the standard objects that come with the system

Logs into AR system server needs sys adm password

Extracts the definition of all the objects

Takes a while to run, avg 20mins or so.Goes into comparison mode your version versus the baseline in the hash file.

AR 7.604 install guide has the best documentation p 143

-T option defaults to HTML, can choose .csv file

Do first run on a non-production server. Do it on a test server, so validate it, because you are

going to be modifying objects.

P147 of guide - -S (suffixes)P for prefixes

Whenever you modify an object you would prefix or suffix it. These are long time bestpractices from BMC. The list of pre and suffixes can be examined and when they are to be

incorporated into the overlay, they are stripped off. It is now an Overlay and is incorporated

for moving forward. It is now marked as a custom object.

Customizations would be converted into Overlays these are the modified objects

Drilldown lists on for all the modifications

This doesnt tell you HOW it has been customised. (Would need Remedy Migrator tool)

Problem is that you need a migrator file from an non-modified install in order to make the

comparison.

It works with 6.x as well as 7.x, refer to the documentation you can compare 6.x with latest

7.604 hash file.
