Deputy's CornerOn Thursday 19th of October, some Year 6 students were privileged to attend the Student Global Leadership Summit which was held at Bethany Christian School. The speakers, who were pre-sented via pre-recorded media presen-tations, included Sheryl Sandberg (CEO of Facebook), Fredrik Haren (Author & Business Creativity Expert), Juliet Funt (CEO of Whitespace at Work), Danielle Strickland (Senior Officer in the Salva-tion Army) and Bill Hybels (Founder & Senior Pastor, Willow Creek Communi-ty Church). Some thoughts from the attending students were;

It was a fun day. There were a lot of people who spoke throughout the day. It taught us how to be better leaders. Raphael Villanueva

I liked watching the videos because they were interesting and intriguing. I picked up a lot of information that I didn’t know. I liked how there was catering at the event. My takeaway point was that the Global Summit is a very educational and encouraging event. Rita Kiflu

It was a great day. We learnt a lot. Differ-ent schools came. It was a privilege to be chosen for this great event. We got to hear from many people about what leadership was. Anthony Huynh

My takeaway message from the Global Leadership Summit was to use your gifts for leadership. I think the day was a really good day because I learned about different leadership techniques. Nicho-las Depares

I liked watching videos and writing down how to encourage others. I wrote down a lot of points about each topics. It was educational and caring. Cathy Chau

Good speakers. Very inspirational and influential. Good catering. Anirudh Iyer

Being at the Global leadership Summit taught me many things but one thing in particular was that it taught me how to grow as a leader. Being at this event helped me to gain knowledge on what it means to be a leader. It helped me to know how to be a better leader and it helped me to know that I can teach others to be a leader. My takeaway point would be that anyone can be a leader. Liana Piscioneri

One thing I really enjoyed about the Global Leadership Summit was getting to learn new things about leadership. Something I learned about leadership was that if you connect with the groups you’re working with then your leader-ship will be boosted. Paige Fleming

The leadership summit meeting was most enjoyable. I enjoyed the third speaker (Juliet Funt). I learned a lot like how the pay/appreciation of women is less than men. The best way to work is if you’re having fun but still having work. I learned having breaks and making friends with your co-workers is an important part of leadership. Michael Batiancila

I loved the Global Leadership Summit because it taught us how to be a leader and people told their stories. My take-away point is everyone could be a lead-er, and leaders can help other leaders to be better leaders. Annalise Clifford

The Global Leadership Summit was very interesting because I got to see a variety of other school students. I also got to learn a lot of new things. They talked a lot about leadership and what their roles were. I like taking the notes so that I can use what they said and to help me to become a better leader. Eleena Kieu

The leadership summit was extreme-ly fun, we got to learn about certain leadership skills. Each speaker had their own unique story to tell, yet all revolved around leadership. My favourite speaker was Sheryl Sandberg. She spoke about multiple things, such as fear, encourage-ment, creation, equity, help, happiness and a bunch of other things. My favou-rite quote was, “We all make mistakes”. Nathan Na

I really enjoyed seeing leaders from oth-er schools learning to be young leaders just like me. My favourite speaker was Fredrik because he was so funny in the way that we all had a good laugh while learning new things. My takeaway point is that young people learn better to be leaders so start young to become a responsible young leader. Tammy Huynh

The feeling of going to the summit was pretty cool, it was a great experience and was a privilege to go. My favourite speaker was Danielle because she was really entertaining. Her takeaway point

was that God wants us for who we are now! I also like meeting student leaders from other schools and making new friends and the morning tea and lunch was delicious! Noah Villanueva

The leadership summit was something to enjoy. It was a great experience. It was a fantastic privilege to be chosen to attend. My favourite speaker was Fredrik Haren because he looked at things a different way. His takeaway point was that it’s okay not to do the things the way that others have always done them. That means you can do things in a new and creative way. Maddy Etherton

At the Global Leadership Summit, my fa-vourite part was that the speakers used bits of stories and illustrations to help us understand what they meant. My takeaway point was that you need a bit of time off to ‘dream’ to be a good leader. Yenika Kurtzer

I wish you and your families an amazing week!

God bless you,

Deb Clifford

SPORTS DEPARTMENT 2017 YEAR 4/5 SOCCER CARNIVAL

UPDATED On Wednesday September 20th Bethany entered two teams into the year 4/5 SACSA Soccer Carnival. The girls had 9 teams in their competition with the boys having 15. It was a fantastic day which was enjoyed by all. 4/5 Boys – 5th Place Team List: Bailey Mooney, Bill Shermerewich, Eden Do, Emerson Gasca, Ezeikiel Togo-Emnace, Hudson Munzer, Hudson Scott, Jake Bain, Jed Maguire, Joshua Cheesman, Nikolaos Karipidis, Pattana Peou, Riley Cox & Robinson Son. Coaches: Mr Nathan Grierson Manager: Mrs Cherie Boxall Linesman: Ethan Moore

Captain: Jake Bain Vice Captain: Robinson Son

The boys were a fantastic team to coach this year. They displayed excellent skill and sportsmanship throughout the tournament. While we just missed out on the finals, I was impressed with how well the boys played and supported one another as a team. Well done boys! Mr Grierson

4/5 Girls Team – 5th Place Team List: Charli Etherton, Denae Kelly, Imogen Perris, Isabella Huddy, Lily Horn, Madison Mortimer, Shannon Suckley, Sienna Marrollo, Sofia Munayco, Taylor Nguyen & Zakia Thompson. Coach: Mr Aaron Mabikafola Manager: Mrs Cherie Boxall Linesman: Ethan Fossey

Captain: Isabella Huddy Vice Captain: Imogen Perris It was a privilege to coach these girls this year. The team trained enthusiastically and developed an understanding of the roles that they would play as a part of this year’s team. On the day the team took time to develop confidence playing in an unfamiliar setting. By game 3 things began to click and the team began to find the back of the oppositions net, whilst keeping things secure at the back. After 2 initial loses the girls went on to draw 1 and win 3 of their remaining 4 games. Each player made valuable contributions during the day and I am proud of the way that the girls conducted themselves and represented our school on the day. Mr Mabikafola
