GAS LAW?

• Gas behave differently from the other states of matter which aresolid and liquid. In solid, the molecules relative are almost constant. But in a gas, the molecules can move around and can interact witheach other by different method.

• So we have different method on treating gases in certain condition.• In this law, we want to measure the three different variables :

a. Pressure

b. Volume

c. Temperature

CHARLES’S LAW?

• Charles’s Law show the relationship between the volume

and temperature at a constant pressure.

• The temperature of the gases increases cause thevolume of the container to increase. This is due to theincreasing in kinetic energy cause the walls container toincrease.

• In the mathematician equation is :

Vf = Vi

Tf Ti

• Experiment 1 :

i. Based on the graph, what can you relate therelationship between the temperature against

pressure?ii. What happen when the temperature is

increased?

iii. Will the shape of the balloon will changed bychanging the teperature?

Enhancement

Obtain a boiler stand, burner, thermometer, glass tube with mercurybead, ice and salt. Mix the ice (or snow) and salt in the boiler toobtain a mixture 5-10oC below zero.. Insert the glass tube andthermometer through the two hole stopper, keeping the thermometerbulb even with the midpoint of the lower portion of the glass tube.

Why? Plot a graph of height of bead vs. temp. as the mixture isheated. What difficulties were encountered in measuring the heightof the bead? Extrapolate your graph down to zero height. Whattemperature does this represent? Why do the top and/or bottompoints not fall along the general line of the other points? Note:

Thoroughly rinse off all of your equipment after the experiment asthe hot salt water causes very rapid rusting.
