By the time Shawn was a High School senior he had broken every Rio

Grande Valley football record, he had rushed for 6,7! yards in a single

season, he had !" career touchdowns, and ran a #"# He was a very

$romising young athlete# %hough he was hounded by all the nation&s to$

recruiters, he decided to go to '#%# (ustin on a full ride#

Shawn graduated "7th in his class and was well on his way to '#%#

(ustin# %he )rst day of $ractice came and on the )rst $lay, a linebacker got

through the o*line and delivered a career ending in+ury to his knee# He was

rushed to the hos$ital and the doctor told him he had shattered his knee ca$

and torn his a#c#l# Shawn would never $lay football again# He lost his

scholarshi$ and decided to go to '#%##(#

Shawn was a self*taught right handed guitarist, mostly because his

$arents could not a-ord to give him lessons# He did not know it, but he had

terrible techni.ue# He only used three )ngers on his fretting hand and would

awkwardly bend his wrist on his $icking hand when he $layed# Shawn had

not $layed guitar since middle school, but now that he had to be o- his knee

he decided to give it another shot# His dream was still to go to '#%# (ustin,

but this time to become a rock star/ (ustin is the live music ca$itol of the

world#

(t the end of that summer he got a +ob at a bank and started working

0! hours $er week# %he semester at '#%##(# started and he did well# He got

four (&s at the end of the semester# By the end of the second semester he

had burned out from working and going to school, so he deiced he would

focus on school# Second semester )nished and he got four (&s again# He

decided that he would a$$ly to %e1as that fall of 2336# He had a $erfect

G##(# a "43 on his S(%&s and had $reviously gotten a full ride, how could

(ustin say no# 5ctober 20, 2336 came around and he got his acce$tance

letter# He was so e1cited# Shawn was in the middle of an avid obsession

with imi Hendri1 and had managed to teach himself Purple Haze, Foxey

Lady , Along the watchtower , and Manic Depression# Besides the studio

version solo of Purple Haze and Foxey Lady , he could never .uite $lay the

solos# Shawn +ust did not have any s$eed# He learned a few other songs by

imi Hendri1, but always unsuccessful in $laying the solos#

Shawn became a Hendri1 fan in anuary 2336 when he was chatting

with a girl on the internet and she said she always wanted to stri$ to Purple

Haze# %his instantly $i.ued his interest and )gured $laying guitar like imi

Hendri1 could $robably hel$ him get girls# So he burned a Hendri1 8 with

all his greatest hits and obsessively listened to it until he could sing all the

guitar $arts in his head# 9t was ironic that besides the Star-Spangled Banner ,

Shawn was not familiar with Hendri1&s live guitar work, which is what he is

best known for#

%he fall semester )nished and once again got straight (&s# (lthough

his $arents could not a-ord it, they took out a loan for :"6,333 and situated

him at what was su$$osed to be the best dorm in (ustin, 8obie enter# He

got a single room, that was on the corner of the 27th ;oor and every evening

he had a view of beautiful sunsets, he could see the a$itol Building and

could also see all of ike and Robert, already went to '#%# (ustin# 9t was anuary "7, 2337 and

>ike o-ered to give Robert and Shawn a ride u$ to (ustin# 9t was a dreary

day and the weather was su$$osed to get nasty# Shawn and his buds made

it $ast San (ntonio, from >c(llen, in three hours and were about to get to

(ustin in less than four when >ike says ? @9 heard Ross has sum killa $ur$le

haAe for :63# o Robert, wanna go halfers on an eighthCD Shawn did not

smoke cannabis all that often, but he suggested they s$lit it three ways,

smoke half a gram out of >ike&s bong and each kee$ a gram# So it was

settled# %hey got to (ustin, got the bud, left Robert&s things at his

a$artment, Shawn left his guitar and clothes at 8obie enter and they made

their way to >ike&s ;at# >ike had a co$y of the Victoria&s Secret fashion

show on his 8VR so they decided to watch that before they loaded u$ the

bong# Shawn $layed Hendri1&s Purple Haze on his music $hone in honor of

what they were about to do and the gang let it ri$# (fterwards they went to

Vanessa&s E>ike&s girlfriendF a$artment and had to stay the night because it

started snowing#

%he semester, that s$ring, started late on account of the snow# Shawn

was enrolled in History of Rock, onstitutional aw, ongress and the

residency, and British iterature# ven though Shawn was $retty $o$ular in

High School, once he got in+ured, he never really got much attention from the

o$$osite se1# He was 6&3D, "!4lbs, handsome, and >e1ican, $art 9talian# =or

some reason unknown to him valley girls never $aid much attention to him,

and the ones that did $ay attention to him only liked him because he was a

star in high schoolI he would always mess u$ with one thing or another and

never manage to bed any of those ladies that liked him# But once he got u$

to (ustin, he would get looks from beautiful aucasian women and he

started a$$roaching them with un$recedented success# He was getting

numbers from ladies on cam$us and ladies at his dorm#

Shawn had to go to the music library to check out some 8&s for his

History of Rock class# 5nce he was there, he did a search for imi Hendri1#

and go bar ho$$ing with >ike# %he trio also $artied every once in a while

with Vanessa and her girlfriends# 9t was a genuine good time#

Shawn&s dad )nished situating him and left the dorm# >oments after Shawn

took out a glass $i$e, loaded a bowl, went to the rest room and got

e1tremely high# %his semester he had changed to the fourth ;oor, he was

tired of )fteen minute elevator rides# So fully baked, he got his guitar rig out

E=ender Strat, boss $edals, and 43 watt >arshallF and started rocking away

the imi Hendri1 tunes he knew# %hough he did not end u$ learning all of Red

House on the guitar, the songs he did know sounded really good# >oments

later his 27th ;oor neighbor showed u$ because he said he heard someone

$laying guitar# His name was (lan and he talked about how his new

roommate had facebooked him and asked him if he would mind if he smoked

weed# (lan said that his new roommate, (dam, would $robably get along

with Shawn#

( few days later Shawn was hanging out in (lan&s room when (dam

)nally shows u$# (dam&s dad was hel$ing move in and came in with a big

brown bo1# @(dam&s been waiting for this oneD and $rom$tly set the bo1

down# (dam got on one knee and uncovered a se1y, black, 7 string guitar,

he got it out, $lugged into his $eavey am$ and started $laying Korn&s Frea

on a leash# %hen he segued into a$a Roach&s Last Resort # Shawn was

convinced he was better than (dam# (dam&s dad left and (lan, Shawn, and

(dam were all chilling and talking, when Shawn asked (dam ?@wanna

(dam get greens, and the rest was history#

(dam and Shawn became really good friends# Shawn continued to

hall between their dorms and (dam said, @9 can now $lay things 9 never

So Shawn is chatting u$ both of these incredibly beautiful women and class

starts# aying little attention to the $rofessor he talks to Shannon and starts

getting the "" on her# He )nds out her ethnicity, that she&s from %em$le, %N

that she has a brother, that her dad hel$ed out in Oew ork as a doctor

during the JP"" crisis and that she is a transfer student from %e1as (Q># %he

class comes to an end# Shawn&s $hone is coming in the mail and he is

$honeless, and he tells Shannon

numbers and you call me u$, if you need anything# HereD He hands her a

notebook# @ike later on that day and when he goes

back to 8obie for dinner, he sees Kim, a girl he met his )rst week the second

semester on his ;oor# She was eating with a stunning atina beauty# So all

sweaty, Shawn makes his way over and says to hi to Kim and introduces

himself to this atina by kissing her on the cheek and he says @Hi, 9&m

So they had dinner and Shawn got to know them a litter better# %hen at the

end of dinner he asks Kim and essica, @Hey, you girls wanna meet my babyC

So they made their way u$ to the fourth ;oor, walked into Shawn&s

dorm, he $ulls out his guitar and says, @>eet Stella,D and both girls giggle#

Shawn sets u$ his am$li)er and $edals and starts $laying Red House ? the

)rst minute and a half that he learned that summer# %hen he breaks into

Spanish !astle Magic u$ until the solo Ehe still didn&t have full command of

the guitar and couldn&t $lay as fast as imi Hendri1F# %he girls, still though,

were im$ressed# %hen Shawn says he has to shower and run a cou$le of

errands so he could e1cuse himself and they leave#

Oe1t >onday Shawn goes to his music class and sits ne1t to (udrey

again, and Shannon sits ne1t to Shawn## again# %hey all talk when Shawn

suddenly asks Shannon ? @So hey, are you singleCD

they were going to get back together at the end of the Semester, and that

they $romised they wouldn&t date anyone#

(nd they continued to ;irt all semester# %he $rofessor )nally got tired

of their incessant chatter and called their attention on three se$arate

occasions#

essica mentioned she was going to a onghorn&s football game at 2

$#m#, it was ""3 $#m# She said she was going to go with a friend# So Shawn

and essica had lunch and at "03 essica left to the game in her orange

cotton dress and :433 boots# Shawn decided he wanted to sur$rise essica

and show u$ at the football gameI she had mentioned she was going to be in

the student section# So Shawn, goes back to his dorm, grabs :!3 , and

makes a list of what he has to do# =irst he needs '#%# a$$arel# So at "4 he

rushes to the drag and looks around a bit and settles on a :4 bargain, a

burnt orange %*shirt with the onghorn emblem# %hen he starts making his

way to the stadium and sees a scal$er#

So :4 is a shirt and a ticket and later )nally makes it to the stadium,

but now to )nd herL

%he student section is divided into si1 sections with about "433 $eo$le

in each# So he makes his way to the edge and starts scanning every row for

essica# Oothing in the )rst section# He em$loys the classic $incer

movement tactic and goes to the other side, goes head by head making sure

to ski$ no one# Oothing, goes to the third section on the o$$osite side#

Same strategy, still nothing# He does this for the fourth and )fth section#

Still no luck#

Shawn suggested they go get a soda and head for cover# %he rain went

away and it was really muggy and sticky# '#%#, without olt >coy, started

losing really bad and essica and Shawn left by the end of the third .uarter#

Shawn S%9 hadn&t )gured out how to get laid# He would tell Kim that

he liked essica but not to tell her, secretly knowing Kim would tell essica#

So essica began ;irting with Shawn more and more# 5ne night Shawn had a

little get together with Kim, essica, and essica&s three roommates# %hey

drank Grey Goose and cranberry and listened to underground $arty music

that Shawn had# 5ne of essica&s friends from Houston had also come, but

she stayed to smoke some O Sour 8iesel with Shawn after the other girls

left# He thought nothing of it# (nother night Kim went over to Shawn&s

dorm# Shawn $ut on Kim&s favorite band, Red Hot hili e$$ers, on his

la$to$ so they could +am out# She&s only '( from Stadiu% Arcadiu% started

$laying and they were talking and sitting on his bed, one thing led to another

and Kim was laying on his bed# %hey had been sharing kinesthetic touches,

and she had been ;irting with him laughing at his +okes# His black light was

on and Shawn was going to score, or at least have a heavy make out session#

He $ositions himself over her and he&s about to $lant a big wet one when

Kim un*$outs her li$s, and closes her mouth# 9t was an awkward moment#

So Shawn sat u$ and Kim said, @9 think 9&d better go#D Shawn was confused#

He went for Kim because she seemed like an easy target and had a

bodacious ass to die for# 8es$ite the fact that essica $robably liked him and

they had been ;irting for a while#

essica were su$$osed to be roommates ne1t year, but Kim broke o- the

agreement on account of one of essica&s friends had stayed to smoke

cannabis with Shawn one time after a get together and Kim said she didn&t

trust essica&s +udgment# 9t didn&t a$$ear as if Kim had told essica about the

night before# So Shawn called u$ Kim and invited her to 8irty >artin&s

Burgers and she agreed to go# %hey had dinner, came back and Shawn

asked Kim, @So you don&t have any feelings for me whatsoeverCD

@Shawn, 9 +ust got out of a relationshi$# 9&m not ready,D and she left#

Shawn vowed not to ;irt or make any moves on essica because he had

gone for her friend, Kim#

Shawn friend bo1ed essica, but she would still ;irt with him# Kim,

essica, and essica&s roommates, (shley and iA, would tend to have dinner

together, usually, along with Shawn#

%he semester went on# (dam and Shawn would +am out, but it was

usually Shawn holding back (dam# Shawn didn&t even use his $inky# Shawn

and (dam got some of the best dro in (ustin and had really good timesI at a

certain $oint, Shawn would +ust watch (dam, trying to soak u$ as much

talent from (dam as $ossible#

Halloween $assed# He met another girl named Rachel# %hat didn&t

work out# essica was friend bo1ed, so that didn&t work out either# So he

decided to $ut all his eggs in one basket and go for Shannon# He asked her

out twice, but got re+ected# He )nally invited both (udrey and Shannon to a

cello recital and they agreed to go# Shannon was de)nitely interested, but

couldn&t muster the will to ditch her half boyfriend# So 8ecember )nally

came around, it was the )rst =riday, 8ecember 7I and Shawn was su$$osed

to meet u$ with Shannon and (udrey for a tower bells concert and a

Beethoven sym$hony concert# Shawn showed u$ to the east side of the '#%#

%ower and mingled with some of classmates and $rofessor# Shannon showed

u$ in a slender, long, black dress and looked absolutely +aw dro$$ing# 9t was

the )rst time Shawn had seen her with make*u$# Shannon was one of those

rare natural beauties that needed no make*u$ to be beautiful, but this was

over the to$# %he concert started, (udrey showed u$, but she was minding

her own business# %he concert went on and Shawn and Shannon were

sharing an intimate s$ace and conversation# %he bells concert ended and

they went to the Beethoven sym$hony# Shawn sat between (udrey and

Shannon, +ust like in class# 9t lasted 4 minutes and it ended# 9t was a

mediocre concertI it wasn&t '#%#&s best $layers# So Shawn suggested he walk

Shannon across cam$us to her car# %hey shared a romantic walk and

everything seemed $erfect for Shawn to make his move, but Shawn wasn&t

convinced that if he kissed Shannon, that she would kiss him back# So they

get to the car, he does nothing, but give her a hug and walks away# He will

forever wonder what could have been# %he ne1t week was )nals and the

semester would be over# (nd he S%9 hadn&t gotten laid#

Sunday came around and he s$ent the night at >ike&s a$artment to

ring in his 2"st birthday# >onday came, Shawn got some $arty essentials,

beer and te.uila included, and that night threw a $arty# But right before he

got to his dorm, the $erson at the front desk took away his beer because @he

wasn&t su$$osed to have alcohol,D but they didn&t see his bottle of Vodka and

%e.uila# He threw his $arty, got really drunk, but didn&t know his limit# He

almost $assed out after bar)ng twice, but then he drank a red bull and >ike,

Vanessa, and a few other friends of his headed downtown# %hey drank some

more and at closing time they made their way to ike&s a$artment and they all chilled#

Shawn asked Vanessa if she would give him a ride home, and when

they showed u$, Shawn told Vanessa he wanted to show her something#

Being stu$idly drunk, they went u$stairs to his dorm and he showed her a

cou$le of ecstasy $ills he had scored from Ross# 8ouble stacked tri$le

isces, it was a heroin based $ill# Vanessa had never done ecstasy and

neither had Shawn# So they took it and around 03 a#m# they were rolling

their asses o-# 5n a long shot, Shawn decides he doesn&t care and starts

making out with Vanessa# She kisses him back and they get on his bed#

decides he doesn&t want to remember so he takes a roach from a list >ike

three hours# Shawn had heard the myth that if a guy has se1 on ecstasy that

worth it# 8uring the course of the said intercourse Shawn began to fantasiAe

about Shannon, because he really desired her, and had three mind blowing

orgasms with Vanessa# (t around 703 am Vanessa was still rolling balls but

she decided she better go home#

Shawn woke u$ at around """0 a#m# feeling e1tremely fatigued

without any recollection of what had ha$$ened after they left >ike&s house,

he had no idea how he got home, let alone that he had had se1 with

Vanessa# So that morning, he woke u$, he took a hit from a two hitter .uitter

cannabis he had and ensued on writing a com$laint versus 8obie for taking

away his beer#

9t was %uesday and he had )nals %hursday, =riday, Saturday, and ne1t

%uesday# He saw (dam, and (dam asked @So did you get your dick wetCD

@OahD re$lied Shawn#

So the day went on and he couldn&t )nd his $honeI he $retty much

stayed in bed trying to recover from the $revious night# He saw some

$ictures from =acebook and attem$ted to $iece together the night to no

avail# ater that night he got a headache and Shawn felt like his brain was

on )re and going a hundred million miles an hour# He was u$set because for

reasons he could not remember he had fucked u$ his brain, and to the best

of his knowledge he never got laid or became a rock star, and now he was

going to have to get some sort of treatment for his mental condition and was

going to $robably have to end u$ going home or dro$$ing out of school# But

that mental condition had s$arked his brain and hand motor coordination in

unfathomable ways# He somehow managed to rest and got an idea, @>aybe

9 can suck it u$ and become a rock star by this weekend and 9 won&t have to

worry about school or money ever again# 9f 9 could only clone (dam&s guitar

talent, 9 could de)nitely become a rock star#D

So Shawn showed u$ to (dam&s dorm and asked him to come over#

%hey smoked a bowl of that two hitter .uitter cannabis and Shawn dis$layed

the ergonomic factors he had discovered on his Stratocaster, that he could

hold his $ick without any tension in his left hand, and that his )ngers on his

right hand could move inordinately fast# Shawn told (dam about his idea to

clone (dam&s talent, but the technology for that seemed distant# 9t involved

using electromagnetic fre.uencies and transferring neurological $athways

between brains# %hey didn&t have the time or the technology to do that, but

it was a dream# Shawn then said, @how about you teach me right here right

now, all 9 gotta do is mirror you and coordinate both hands and synchroniAe

them to yours and each other/ but )rst 9 would like you to become my

smoking blood brother#D

and carved an @(TD on Shawns left and (dam&s right $alm, took a hit, blew it

into each others hands and +oined $alms# Shawn&s left one was (dam&s right

one# So to make a callous on their )ngers ti$s so they could $lay, they

slowly burned the bloody )nger ti$s into a hardened callousI (dam taught

Shawn a few e1ercises to get coordinated and did that until he got the

basics# Shawn then told (dam that he was going to )gure out the

im$rovisation slow, and then if he could only teach him how to shred# So

Shawn s$ent "7 hours )guring out how to $lay the )rst 4J seconds of imi

duel# %hey were going back and forth with no clear victor when Shawn says,

(dam, grab the camera, 9 think 9 can )nally do it#

So (dam grabs the camera and Shawn ensues to $lay the )rst 4J

heard in his head, he started $laying ike or why he had not called# Saturday comes and Vanessa shows u$

while Shawn is making out with essica right before starting the show and

Vanessa makes a scene# Shawn has one of his buddies escort Vanessa out

and he $layed imi Hendri1 tunes for the ne1t three hours, also blowing o-

the )nal he had earlier that day# He $layed for another three hours on

Sunday, and again for another 4 hours ne1t >onday# By then, he had

become a local celebrity and everyone in the town was raving about him#

%hat %uesday he went over to >ike&s and Vanessa had already

confessed to >ike that she had done ecstasy and that she had sle$t with

Shawn# >ike was $issed, but he was conniving too, so he invited Shawn for

dinner# He had made some food, and $ut $oison in Shawn&s 8rink# Shawn

didn&t feel the e-ects till a few hours later and $assed out in his room# Oo

one had heard from Shawn and his $arents showed u$ on

lucid dream# 9n real life, he couldn&t move, he had lost all function of his

motor abilities# He couldn&t even stand u$# He could only shit, slee$, and

eat# =or ease of his $arents they transferred him to a Hos$ital in >c(llen and

Shawn had no idea he had learned how to $lay guitar like his hero and that

he had formed a Hendri1 cover band that was waiting and eager for Shawn

to $lay, his friend (dam had no idea where Shawn was, and Vanessa felt

horrible for what had ha$$ened# %o to$ it o- he had no idea what had

ha$$ened to his cell $hone with everyone&s number in it and >ike made u$

rumors on =acebook that caused all his good friends to unfriend him#

would ma$ out $eo$le&s brains# He could essentially hack anyone&s brain

with his receiver and guitar and steal their thoughts, memories, information,

secrets, or subconsciously talk to anyone he chose to target#

Shawn&s $arents had agreed to let doctors $lace him in an

e1$erimental virtual reality because he was in a coma and they wanted him

to live his life# %his virtual reality basically allowed him to live his live as he

remembered it and it would use the functions of the brain that created

dreams to create his life# So naturally Shawn had to dro$ out from school

because he failed three of his classes and his $arents could not a-ord to

have him u$ in (ustin after he ruined his brain, at least that was his belief#

So he went home# 9n his dream life the doctors $rescribed medicine for him

that would make him slee$ in his lucid dream virtual reality/ but no one

really knew what would ha$$en down the line in his brain or if he would in

fact ever wake u$#

His friends found out that all the rumors >ike had started were fake

because of (dam and could a$$ear in Shawn&s reality as strangers that his

dream life would con+ure u$I and they could interact with him through other

beings, but the $owers that be would not allow it#

based on the logic in$ut through syllogistic systems#

%he government then found out what (dam had develo$ed through

electromagnetic fre.uencies and his guitar and receivers and everything and

decided that he knew too much so they cast him away in a similar $rogram

to e1$loit his e1$ert knowledge and use of the guitar to try and advance

their own agenda# (dam was now in too dee$ and the government had

kidna$$ed him, drugged him, and $ut him in a similar virtual reality system

similar to the one Shawn was in#

%here were monitors and censors 2P7 to make sure that (dam would

never esca$e this dream world and would generate trillions of dollars for the

'#S# government by a$$lying (dam&s trademark technology#

(dam woke u$ in his virtual reality and he didn&t even know he was in
