Packaging Innovation - Various BHTB brands required packaging

The Talking Image Company - Freelance CreativeApril 2016 to present
I am currently working in a freelance capacity for several personal and
agency based clients, doing business as the Talking Image Company.
The scope of these projects includes creating campaign concepts,
social media content, promotional marketing, above and below the line
campaigns, and a variety of print based projects.
Bauer Media - Clyde 1 Breakfast Show Relaunch
Bauer Media was looking for a way to revitalize Clyde 1’s flagship breakfast show. The tag line talked about the West of Scotland, rising in the morning with Clyde 1, as well as the high-spirited antics of the presenters - all conveyed with positive, feel-good connotations. The subsequent outdoor campaign and location broadcasts from Glasgow’s main rail hub set the tone for the launch: Big, bold and full of energy. The brand refresh was then rolled out across the remainder of Bauer Media Scotland’s broadcast radio properties, with supporting brand architecture documentsdefining the path for each station.
FOR THIS PROJECT:I created the treatments in the display words, and used the subjects from a separate photoshoot and incorporated them into the final scenario. These key visuals were then adapted for use across all media channels, including outdoor, online and on materials for a special launch event.

Heinz UK - Campaign Concepts and Social Media content
Each summer, Heinz promotes its core sauce range in preparation for barbecue season.
BBQ Heroes characterized the sauces as saviors of your barbecue.
Character design, art direction on photoshoot, furnished a complete consumer journey. The concept was subsequently rolled out across Europe in the following year.
I also helped to develop concepts and content for Heinz’s UK social media relaunch, helping to visualize concepts and art direct preferred routes.
1. BBQ Heroes Key visual2. Example of instore point of sale3. Press advertising and Out-of-home campaign presence.4. Social media posts, with concept illustrations and final manipulated visuals from photoshoot of elements.
FOR THIS PROJECT:• I art directed photoshoot of bottles and food, to assemble the high resolution key visual, including use of clipping paths and density masks in photoshop.• Produced large format (outdoor) posters, free standing display units, and various merchandising units to production specifications including litho and flexograph printing.• Visualized key art before production to ensure client buy-in, and replicated the pre-production visuals in Photoshop.
Multiply UK - Head of DesignMay 2009 to April 2016
I began working with Multiply as a senior designer, and I was then
promoted to Head of Creative in 2012.
This position required to meet a long list of deliverables, including
allocation of work across the studio relating to skill set and experience,
managing and overseeing workflow while maintaining quality and accuracy.
The role also required to liaise with account teams and creative directors to
manage outputs, timelines and budgets.
I really enjoyed the people skills required as Head of Design: mentoring
studio members to develop skills and reach their goals on personal and
professional development.
This was all undertaken while providing my own high-level design and
branding solutions for the agency’s range of clients, including Heinz,
Canvas Holidays, Little Tikes and Huggies.
Heinz UK & EuropeBaked Beanz Social Media
As part of the core group of products (sauces, beans and pasta) Heinz Beanz kicked off a concerted push in the company’s social media presence. I was asked to explore themes and concepts that kept the brand and the product front of mind with its social media subscribers, centered around occasion-led and seasonal, activity based use.
Positioning Heinz Beanz as a healthy, protein rich snack, a convenience food and innovative recipes to cook them with opened up interaction and triggered purchase with subscribers, based on brand insights.

Speyburn Malt WhiskyStage 2 Creative concept
As Speyburn established itself in the brand relaunch material, the next step was to continue the conversation to delve deeper into the story of the brand. This story talked about the path on which instinct takes us.
These key visuals were produced with composite images, manipulated to create a visual theme that connected the subjects of each one through their composition.
The winding path and meandering river here are two examples of how the theme is continued through the campaign.
Each version was then used across all brand touchpoints including print, online, instore and out of home.
As part of the brand evolution, i developed the brand signoff from the original Speyburn logostyle, using and manipulating characters to create a new alphabet to form the sign off phrase, ‘Trust Your Instincts’.

Speyburn Malt Whisky
As part of their relaunch strategy, Speyburn required a presence in new areas including tradeshow and experiential. There was also a strategic goal to expand the core range of whiskies to include limited release variants on an ongoing basis. The first of these was Arranta Casks, which I designed incorporating their existing production spec, but using finishing techniques and raw materials to help differentiate its unique qualities as a modernization of the Speyburn product.
1. Trade/experiential concept demonstrated how the relaunched Speyburn brand could be presented in a B2B or consumer platform, using elements from the key visual and display graphics to immerse the patrons in the Speyburn experience.2. Arranta Casks Limited Release by Speyburn - This variant was only released in the US and required a more contemporary approach to the packaging, whilst retaining the relevance to the original brand look and feel.
FOR THIS PROJECT:
• I created final artwork files that included emboss/deboss plates, hot metallic foil, spot UV varnish and spot color lithography • Met with external production suppliers to discuss options on print specification, including paper choice, hot foil application, spot varnish• Attended press pass for final production to ensure quality and consistency with supplied artwork

Kimberly Clark HuggiesPull-Ups and Little Swimmers
Multiply were tasked to develop integrated marketing plans for the range of Huggies products still on sale in the UK, namely Pull-Ups, Little Swimmers and Dry Nites.
As well as creating the interface and websites for these brands, the campaign theme had to work across all touchpoints, including website carousel headers, HTML emails, social media posts and digital advertising.
The creative was developed to have a consistent look and feel across all of the brands in the Huggies Family.

Arla Foods - Lurpak Butter
Lurpak Butter is a premium white butter sold in tubs in the UK and Europe. The inner foils of the packs were used to communicate promotional campaigns, and other brand messages. These examples helped to enforce the quality cues of the product, where the inclusion of Lurpak in recipes would enhance the flavor of the recipes, and also that the butter was so delicious, even the food you use it on would be appreciative! I developed the concepts and copy lines, visualized and art directed the photoshoots and styled the food, and the final campaign was applied to the product variants in the range.
1. ‘Unlock the flavor’ inner foils2. ‘It’s a Pleasure’ inner foils3. Promotional silverware Christmas gift, made for commercial B2B brand managers.
FOR THIS PROJECT:• Photomanipulation of images to incorporate message (baked potato), food styling (on egg image)• Using supplied production templates from manufacturer, apply design to layouts and examining pre-press proofs for sign-off• Attend press pass to ensure consistency and quality.
BD-NTWK Glasgow - Senior DesignerJuly 2004 to July 2007
I worked as part of design studio on various promotional and brand-led
projects for The Famous Grouse whisky, Arla Foods, McCain, ESPC, SCIAF,
VisitScotland.
I was involved in developing concepts for campaigns, art directing visual
output and photoshoots, and presenting and pitching final work.
Other duties in this position include holding a regular creative forum, where
design studio members meet to discuss trends and influences in the industry.
Reid Furniture UK - In-house Head of CreativeJuly 2007 - October 2008
Main creative output across all media channels - Instore, Press and Outdoor,
Web, TV and Radio. Concept through to brief, and on to campaign
execution.
Manage studio members and workflow, brief external suppliers (eg
photography, TV production), solutions for everything from sales tickets to
vehicle livery. Company-wide presentations to directors. Consistency in the
brand, developed effective campaigns.
This role gave me the opportunity for some personal and professional
development. A real testing ground for my abilities. I took the opportunity
to build and manage a whole department, and against all the variables of
a fairly reactive retail environment, managed to succeed in meeting briefs,
objectives and deadlines. Every time. That translated into:
• 23% increase in engagement and sales, year on year,
measured on release of the first in-house campaign
• Internal management of creative and production saved Reid
£500k in media, creative and print costs.
