Data Interpretation of BPL:

Beximco Pharmaceuticals Ltd (BPL) is a leading manufacturer of pharmaceutical

formulations and Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) in Bangladesh. The company is the

largest exporter of pharmaceuticals in the country and its state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities

are certified by global regulatory bodies of Australia, Gulf nations, Brazil, among others. The

company is consistently building upon its portfolio and currently producing more than 400

products in different dosage forms covering broader therapeutic categories which include

antibiotics, antihypertensive, anti-diabetics, anti asthma inhalers etc, among many others.

BPL decades of contract manufacturing experience with global MNCs, skilled

manpower and proven formulation capabilities, the company use the latest technology in

production and administration.

Information System of BPL

BPL tries to use the latest technology. They try to modernize this company. They divided

there employee in different classes and use IT for different classes. They have different sections

of IS for managing the information and execute them.

They build a strong IT infrastructure to digitalize the company. They gather different

hardware, software and other equipments to make an innovative digital firm.

Different System Used by the Managers of BPL:

Transaction Processing System (TPS): Used by the operational level managers. Through

this system managers make the process of procurement of raw materials, sells process, order

processing, shipment, payroll and other entry level jobs. For execute this system managers

collect data from raw facts.

Management information systems (MIS): Used by the middle managers of BPL, the

managers of different departments COO. The major function of this system is to provide

information about the present situation of the company, such as the annual budgeting. MIS

collect data from TPS.

Decision Support System (DSS): Used by the middle managers of BPL. Through this system

managers of BPL can make assumption for the next years financial activities, sales trends and

other assumptions. DSS collect data from both MIS and TPS.

Executive Support System (ESS): Used by the top level executives of BPL, the directors,

CEO, Vice-Chairman, Chairman. The non routine works like critical decision making, judgment,

evaluation etc. the overall view of the company is focused by ESS. ESS collects data from MIS

& DSS.

For managing these different systems BPL uses different software of finance,

accounting, DBMS, web development etc. They use Quicken, Moneydance, AccuFund

Accounting Suite, Abra Suite, WS 5.0, A4Desk and many more software.

Sales:

Telephone: BPL sales their products through telephone call. In this system the retailer

call to BPL and contract about the type, amount, cost and payment methods. Customer can pay

in cash or transfer digital cash (only for foreign customer) or credit card.

Website: BPL has a rich website including different feature. Anyone can buy their

products through online order system. If anyone brows for online order system BPL make a call

to that person. Then they make contract as well as telephone sale system.

Retail Store: The major sales of BPL are on the retail store. It is a manual process.

Marketing:

Sales Trend: BPL analyzes its sales trends through different software by using different

accounting and financial applications. We discuss about before.

Data Analysis: For analyzing sales trends and other variables BPL has to analyze

different data about the previous financial and managerial situations.

Order Processing: BPL has online order processing system. From placing an order any

one can finish his or her procurement process through online.

Service:

Online Service: BPL provides different services through online. They provide limited

EDI services for some of their customers. They also provide Co-browsing services for some

selective customers.

Service over Telephone: BPL provides information services through telephone. From

there website anyone can make call through only clicking the link.

The Warehouse and Inventory Management System of BPL

BPL produces a huge number of products at a time. So they have to store a large number

of inventories. It is a very complex process. We try to show it through diagram in next page.

BPL has a rich database. They use multidimensional DBMS. As they have a huge

number of data, they need quick query system so they use different tools for verify their data and

information.

Intranet: BPL use intranet within the organization. The IT section of BPL monitors all the

access in their server. They use different monitoring tools for this job. To setup the network BPL

uses different hardware and equipments.

Wi-Fi: BPL has wi-fi facilities. Through some access points users can access the server of

BPL. It is a plug and play feature, so anyone can access from this access point.

Physical Topology: BPL uses the star topology. As all the PCs are connected to a central

server, star topology is very helpful for this system.

BPL is the no.1 producer of pharmaceuticals products in Bangladesh, so they have to

maintain a secure way for their online trading and internal & external online matters. So BPL

uses different policy like data encryption, SSL and so on. Through this process they can protect

their data as well as confirm the efficiency level.

At last we can say that BPL is doing well in term of using IT. We hope that in future BLP

introduce new technical system which will helpful for BPL, its customer and all the people of

Bangladesh.
