• Imbibed with ideologies of Mahatma
Gandhi and Vinoba Bhave, worked to wipe
out a skin disease called Yaws and cured
over 4,000 infected
• Participated in the Bhoodan Sarvodaya
Movement led by Vinobha Bhave in 1951
• With a focus on empowering women, she
provided vocational training to 200 destitute
women of Adivasi and weaker sections in

willpower, and has till date successfully
rescued more than 60 women
• She also served as an example for humanity,
by providing food to the underprivileged on
her own with no support from local
authorities
• It is estimated that more than 1,500 women
have been killed because of being branded
as witches over the past 2 decades
