1 Corinthians 2: 1-16Read verses 1-5:

And so it was with me, brothers and sisters. When I came to you, I did not come with

eloquence or human wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God. For I resolved to

know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. I came to you in

weakness with great fear and trembling. My message and my preaching were not with wise

and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, so that your faith might not

rest on human wisdom, but on God’s power.

What is Prophecy?

Prophecy

is a process in which one or more messages that have been communicated to a prophet, are then communicated to others. Such messages typically involve divine inspiration, interpretation, or revelation of conditioned events to come.

Biblical Definition of Prophecy

Prophecy has at least two connotations in the Bible - fore-telling and forth-telling. 

Exodus 7:1-2(KJV)

1 And the LORD said unto Moses, See, I have made thee a god to Pharaoh: and Aaron thy brother shall be thy prophet.

2 Thou shalt speak all that I command thee: and Aaron thy brother shall speak unto Pharaoh, that he send the children of Israel out of his land.

As Bible believers, we put our faith only in the prophecies mentioned in God’s word – the Holy Bible – from Genesis to Revelation, and not in the word of man outside of the bible, as was Malachy and the “prophecy” of Petrus Romanus.

2 Timothy 3:16-17(KJV)16 All scripture is given by

inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

7 Keys to Interpreting The Bible

1. Pray before and throughout your study of the Bible asking that Holy Spirit guide you and lead you into Truth.

2. Explore the context.

3. Investigate what the text says.

4. Determine what the text means in its context.

5. Harmonize your understanding of the text’s message with the teaching of the whole Bible. (Scripture interprets Scripture)

6. Compare what you have learned with other scholars (optional).

7. Apply God’s word to your life.
