1. The Laboratory Professor reports any borrowed nonfunctional equipment to the Laboratory Aide in charge. Any damaged material/apparatus is also reported. The borrower is responsible for replacement for any totally damaged material. If repair is possible for the damaged material, the borrower shoulders the cost for repair.

2. The Laboratory Aide inspects the reported damaged materials and informs the Laboratory Facilities Coordinator.

3. The Laboratory Facilities Coordinator sends communication to the Supplier of the damaged material. The Supplier’s Laboratory Technician suggests recommendations. The Lab Facilities Coordinator then reports to the Dean.

4. The Dean communicates to the Supply Officer and gives possible solutions to the problem.

5. The Supply Officer prepares the purchase request and other necessary documents to address the problem.

10. SUMMARY OF FINDINGS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

A. Strengths

1. There is a fully functional multimedia laboratory equipped with the latest multimedia facilities that may be utilized by the department.

2. There are available natural science laboratories with sufficient facilities for conducting science experiments.

3. There is a repair and maintenance system manned by three technical staffs that take care of the computers in the laboratory on a regular basis. There are also technical persons in-charge of other laboratories intended for general education subjects (speech lab, chemistry lab, physics lab, audio-visual lab)

4. A good number of highly skilled technicians are readily available in the computer laboratory.

5. There is a collapsible divider of two laboratory rooms that may accommodate hands-on training seminars and workshops.

6. A LAN facility was installed to provide for internet connection to the laboratory.

7. There is a readily available WiFi access points that may be used by the faculty and students of the college anywhere in the campus.

8. Computer Science major subjects have been reduced to a minimum number for a laboratory class for a better facilitative learning.

9. Additional IT and multimedia equipments were acquired for better delivery of instruction.

B. Area Needing Improvement

1. There are sufficient number of laboratories and computer equipments utilized by BS Information Technology students in the college; however none of these laboratories could handle classes of large size. Though this problem was addressed by splitting large classes in two and by allowing them to use two different laboratories in order to guarantee a one-is-to-one (1:1) ratio between student and computer, it is still better if there is a readily available computer laboratory that could handle large classes at a time. This will ensure that the assigned instructor will be able to attend to the entire class in a single room and in the same schedule at a time.

C. Recommendation

Page 31: Bicol University College of Science - · Web viewA. Laboratories, Shops / Facilities A.1. CHED – required laboratories and inventory of existing laboratories. Name of Laboratory

BS Information Technology AREA IX - LABORATORY

1. The college may consider establishing a computer laboratory that may be utilized by classes of large numbers at a time. This will ensure that laboratory classes will be conducted on the same schedule and on the same laboratory room with one-is-to-one (1:1) ratio between computers and students without splitting the class in two.
