Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 5 in D Major, along with a flute and violin soloist. Other pieces in the concert are Tomaso Albinoni’s Adagio in G Minor for Violin, Organ, and Strings, with Nancy Callahan on the organ, and Robert Schumann’s Piano Trio No. 2 in F Major, with violin and cello. “If Music Be the Food...” is a collaboration between the Tampa Bay’s local arts institutions, Palma Ceia Presbyterian Church, and the Tampa Bay Harvest, in response to reports in the news of increased need for food aid in the Tampa Bay community. This is a classical chamber music outreach, arranged by cellist and USF music professor Scott Kluksdahl, that unites artist-musicians of various metropolitan institutions including University of South Florida, University of Tampa, Hillsborough Community College, The Florida Orchestra, Sarasota Orchestra, Opera Tampa, and other Tampa Bay artistic institutions, plus distinguished national guest artists - all of whom join together and donate their services for these concerts. Likewise, Palma Ceia Presbyterian Church is donating its facilities and resources for this outreach. Audience members are asked to bring whatever non- perishable food items or cash donations they can offer for Tampa Bay Harvest as the price of admission, if they are able – and otherwise just their presence and support. Every contribution will gratefully be accepted. Every food donation and every cash donation will go completely towards the cause of hunger in the Tampa Bay community. “If Music Be the Food...” is part of a national movement within our own community of other prominent institutions in the United States inspired by a Rochester-based initiative. The mission is to increase awareness and support for the hungry in our community through chamber music performances of the highest caliber. The featured concert of this annual series will occur on Sunday, January 20th, 2019 at Palma Ceia Presbyterian Church at 6:00pm in the sanctuary. Imagine for a moment that you move to a new country with a predominant language that you don’t know. On your person are all your belongings and coins only from your home country — not usable in this new land. The new country and its state gives you 90 days of help before expecting you to seek a job, interview for that position, and be chosen. In order to retain it, you have to figure out how to use Tampa’s inadequate public transportation system, and you have no car. Our refugee project team is launching an easy way for us at PCPC to help those families that have come to Tampa, a city with limited public transportation and a society driven by cars. The bike project suggests, each month this year, we offer a donation of 1 bike, 1 lock, and 1 helmet. If for one year we accomplished this, we would be able to serve at least 12 families with transportation to work, groceries, and other needs the children may have, like parent- teacher conferences. Your donation of a bike could be a used adult bike that is sitting in your garage, with no one riding it, in excellent condition. Or, it could be a donation of a new bike at $200, purchased by writing a check to PCPC and in the memo section stating “Refugee Bike Project.” For a $35 donation, you can offer a family a superb bike lock that will ensure the safety of their vehicle. Or, for a donation of $16, you can assist the rider’s safety by offering a helmet. Again, that can be done by writing a check to PCPC and in the memo section stating “Refugee Bike Project.” These are all adult biking items. By empowering the parents in families, we can help their children. What questions do you have? Sally Speer is at sallycspeer@gmail. com and Lauren Dicks is at [email protected]. Or, to meet for a cup of coffee to discuss this opportunity further, call Sally @ 813-835-7225. Or Lauren @ 813-708-4593. To make a donation, you can turn in a check to the church office and in the memo section write “Refugee Bike Project.” Thank You… The 2018 Giving Tree was a huge success. Over 250 gifts were delivered to Beth-El Farmworker Ministry, Guardian Ad Litem, Created, and FED this year. Thank you to everyone who purchased a gift and made Christmas much brighter for many children and families.

The bike project suggests, each month this year, we offer a donation of 1 bike, 1 lock, and 1 helmet. If for one year we accomplished this, we would be able to serve at least 12 families with transportation to work, groceries, and other needs the children may have, like parent-teacher conferences.

END 68 HOURS OF HUNGERFOOD DRIVE

Throughout January we will be collecting food for our mission, END 68 HOURS OF HUNGER. This mission has highlighted the needs of many south Tampa children who do not receive food on the weekends. The only meals they have are provided by the free breakfasts and lunches they receive at school. END 68 HOURS OF HUNGER is a volunteer organization that fills backpacks with food for these students to take home every Friday. Each backpack provides 3 dinners, 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches, and snacks for the students and their siblings. More than 30 PCPC volunteers help pack and deliver food to nearly 500 students every week.

The Food Pantry needs our help to restock the shelves for the remainder of the school year. They are in need of the following:Canned soup • Canned fruit • Crackers (Saltine or Ritz type)Cereal • Snack bars (Protein/Power bars, Rice Krispie treats, puddings etc.)

Grocery bags and lists are available in the Narthex, gym or church office. Food donations will be collected every Sunday in the Breezeway throughout the month of January.

Note from the Palma Ceia Presbyterian PreschoolThe Palma Ceia Presbyterian Preschool welcomed the Tampa City Ballet for a short program of the “Nutcracker.” Seeing the delight and wonder of the children, and hearing their “bravos” at the end of the performance was a reminder of how deeply the arts affect us all. We remember our friend Dr. Joseph P. McKell, who made these visits by performers possible.
