You may begin to register for courses as of:

You have until Friday, August 14 to register for at least one course to avoid late registration fees, and untilTuesday, September 14 to make changes to your fall registration without fee penalty.

Personalized Online Program Audit (OPA) Log into Microsoft One Drive for Business site using your McGill

Username and Password here – https://portal.office.com

Once you are in the Office 365 portal, you should see an excel document with your name in the Cloud Drive Last Name_Preferred First Name_Program

This is your Personalized OPA. You should receive one sometime in August. Exemptions, transfer credits and program progress are recorded on OPA.

You can download the document to your hard drive so you can add notes on your study plan.

For advising and graduation review purpose, the faculty refers to the OPA, not Minerva’s Degree Evaluation.

- Completed four music history courses (littératuremusicale) from DEC, passed RCM grade 10 Music History exam, or completed equivalent history course with 55% or higher from another university.

- Completed equivalent jazz courses from Cegep or university with 55% or higher

AP credits for subjects other than music - Non-music subjects with AP exam results of “4” or better; apply as electives. e.g. English Language & Composition, ESLN 1XX (6

credits)United States History, HIST 1XX (6 credits)

Placement Exams (1/2)

• Online Placement exams during between late June and mid-July. You will receive the placement test results before classes start so you can register for the appropriate theory and musicianship courses.

• Placement exams for: B.Mus (except jazz performance)Theory (MUTH 100, 150, 151, 250)Musicianship (MUSP 140, 141, 170, 171, 240)

Placement Exams (2/2)

• Mandatory diagnostic test for theory rudiments, MUTH 100

• By default, students are placed in first year theory and musicianship courses (e.g. MUTH 150 &151, MUSP 140, 141, 170 & 171 for orchestral instruments/voice students or MUJZ 160, 161, 170, 171 and MUSP 123 & 124 for jazz students)

• However, students wishing to receive advanced standing in these core courses have to the option to do placement tests.

• No placement exams for Music History (MUHL 186 & MUJZ 187); transfer credits will be offered for equivalent courses completed at Cegep, RCM Grade 10 exam, music conservatory or university.

What to register for? (1/2)

• Refer to Sample Study Plan for your program

• Standard for all B.Mus students, either you are admitted as U0 (freshman year for out of province or international students) or U1 (CEGEP admits or transfer students).

• Possible to complete your degree in less than 4 years dependent on the number of transfer credits and advanced standing you will receive from placement tests.

• Should take placement tests and be prepared to take summer courses if you wish to graduate earlier, or if you wish to get a head start in the theory or musicianship program during the regular academic year.

• Common music core courses offered in the spring and summer (between May and July):MUTH 250, 251, 350MUSP 240, 241, 346MUHL 286

• You can also take a couple of elective courses during the summer offered by other faculties. Students in B.Mus Voice Performance should consider taking the required language courses (German, Italian and French) during the summer session.

What to register for? (2/2)

• You cannot register for practical instruction and exams (courses with MUIN prefix) on Minerva. The Department of Performance will add these courses to your records after you have submitted an application form.

• We recommend you register for courses for both Fall 2021 and Winter 2022. You will not be billed for winter courses until December.

• The Visual Schedule Builder (VSB) is a good tool you can use to build your weekly class schedule before adding courses on Minerva.https://vsb.mcgill.ca/vsb/welcome.jsp
