Cost: $220, includes lodging (3 nights), meals (Monday dinner - Thursday breakfast), workshops and t-shirt. Registration forms are due to the office no later than April 20th.

Bike-A-Thon The 40th Annual Bike-A-Thon will be held on Saturday, May 13th, 2017 at James Wood Middle School Amherst Campus; 9:00 a.m. till 2:00 p.m., on the track, behind the school.

Anyone collecting $30.00 or more will receive a Bike-A-Thon Shirt, plus 4-H’ers will receive a $25.00 scholarship towards the 4-H Camp of their choice. (Camping season 2017)

Prizes will be given in each age category for the person riding the most miles. (Individual ending totals the day of the Bike-A-Thon will be final for prize consideration.) Age categories are 5-8; 9-11; 12-13; 14-19. TO BE CONSIDERED FOR PRIZES, INCLUDING T-SHIRTS, PARTICIPANTS MUST TURN IN THEIR MONEY BY JUNE 5th.

Congress

For over 80 years, National 4-H Congress has served as the premiere educational and recognition event for senior 4-H members. It is held each year in Atlanta, Georgia, in late November or early December. National 4-H Congress offers participants an exciting opportunity to explore careers, engage in a variety of quality learning experiences, and have great fun by getting to know other 4-H members from across the country. Outstanding 4-H members will be selected to represent Virginia at National 4-H Congress. Candidates for selection must be current-year senior 4-H members who are able to demonstrate outstanding achievement as a 4-H members in the areas of leadership, citizenship, and personal development. Changes to the State Fair Horse Show

FREE! Who doesn’t love free stuff? And any of you can get it! The Horse Show Hero program allows ANYONE to get a FREE entry into the 2017 State 4-H Horse Show! Any amount counts and every little bit helps! If you are able to fundraise $300 for the Virginia 4-H Horse Program you will receive a free entry into the show! That’s right! FREE!!! And with the addition of allowing our Seniors to bring two horses they will also have the opportunity to received TWO free entries by fundraising $500 for the Program! Gifts over $25 are tax deductible and the youth that raises the most money will get free tickets to the Washington International Horse Show and one free night at a hotel!

2017 Northern District

4-H Livestock Judging

Contest

The 2017 Northern District 4-H Live-stock Judging Contest will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2017 beginning at 9:00 AM. All Virginia counties with 4-H Livestock Programs are invited to par-ticipate in this event.

All contestants should come prepared to evaluate classes of Beef Cattle, Sheep, Swine and Goats (subject to change due to the availability of live-stock). Market and breeding classes will be offered in each species. Data on the individual classes will be provided whenever possible, and should be used in determining the final placing and an-swering questions. This is a learning and educational contest, therefore some guidance may be given by com-mittee members approval during the contest.

Senior age level participants (14 to 19 years old as of 09/30/17) will give one set of oral reasons for each spe-cies. Junior age level participants (9 to 13 years old as of 09/30/17) will be ex-pected to give one set of oral reasons on a class and species to be named the day of the contest. Participants who have not turned 14 as of January 1, 2017 but, will turn 14 on or before September 30, 2017 are eligible to compete as JUNIORS. To do this, simply enter them as a junior or with a junior team. All participants will be responsible for answering questions relating to individual classes. Youth Poultry Convention

April 21, 2017

The Youth Poultry Convention offers both competition and education for those attending. Youth rank classes of production hens and give oral reasons from memory on one of the classes. They grade ready-to-cook broiler carcasses, turkey carcasses, candled eggs, broken-out eggs and exterior eggs. They are also asked to identify mixed broiler parts. The competitions are followed by fun and educational events including a youth poultry carnival for juniors and job shadowing and production tours for seniors. In 2016, youth educational tracks were available to all participants featuring a Live Production Track, Post-Production Track, Consumer Advocacy Track, and a Food Challenge Track. 19th Annual Lamb Camp

Sponsored by Frederick County 4-H Livestock Club & Clarke County Lucky Leaf 4-H Club

Calling all 4-H and FFA members currently enrolled in the sheep project. Come join us for this hands-on workshop! Don't forget your lamb! (Cloverbuds are welcome; however, they cannot bring a lamb or be in control of a lamb during camp.) Topics to be covered include health, nutrition, marketing, what to expect at the fair, general care, and showmanship. In addition, we will be having a shearing demonstration, trimming feet, giving shots, cooking, washing lambs, fun activi-ties, and much more! Come have a great time and make new friends! Marksmanship instruction

Competitive shoot Plus special afternoon and evening

programs: Reloading, Seneca Run, Laser Shot (interactive hunting video), Campfire and more!

Instructors: Certified through 4-H, VDGIF, NRA, NAA

and other National Organizations. Available Courses:

Small Bore Rifle, Shotgun, Air Rifle, Pistol, Muzzleloading or Archery

(18 hours of instruction)
