Bilba the BowerBirdJoseph & Thelma Atwater

Bilba Bowerbird wanted a mate.

He watched the other Bowerbirds build beautiful Bowers

All the other Satin Bowerbirds gathered many pretty things.

They were things like clothes-pegs, plastic lids, paper bags, straw and even pieces of old cloth.

 And everything was blue.

All that collecting attracted the attention of other Bowerbirds

Mates….just what Bilba wanted.

So Bilba started collecting whatever he could find.Ribbon, shoestrings, tissues, empty cups and a plastic spoon.

But Bilba was soon disappointed because nobody came to see hisbower.

Then soon all the other Bowerbirds began to make fun of Bilba’sbower.

They danced with their mates and sang and fluttered in and out of their own bower with all of their pretty blue things.

Bilba was sad so he decided to collect more things to see if he couldattract a mate. Bottle tops, petals, feathers, seedpods and a shiny coin.

Then the most beautiful Bowerbird took notice of Bilba;

Bunji…Bowerbird

All the other Bowerbirds loved Bunjibut Bunji Bowerbird had only eyes for Bilba’s Bower.

She loved the red bottle top and the yellow petals. She noticed the silver coin.

Bunji Bowerbird was not attracted to all the other Bowerbirds.

She liked the different colours, the shiny rainbow objects.

She liked the things that Bilba liked.

Bowerbirds, Satin Bowerbirds like Bilba and Bunji, were supposed tolike only blue objects in their bowers

But Bilba and Bunji were different.

They didn’t just like the colour of the clear blue sky with all its shades.

They liked the all the colours of the rainbow.

They loved the rainbow that rose above the earth in the sky after rainand beamed with every colour imaginable.

And these were the colours they were happy to have in their bower.

Not just the one colour blue for them like other Bowerbirds but all thecolours from the bow in the sky.

The other birds laughed when Bilba and Bunji finally settled in their bower together.

But Bilba and Bunji were content.

They had found someone to share their vision and they finally found

happiness together.

Many of us face challenges every day. We are looked upon and judgedaccording to our appearances, our environment and our choices.

But God judges us from within.Like the Satin BowerBird who conforms to the appeal of blue objects,

we look at others and point our fingers and make gestures.

We make decisions everyday that determine our character and our uniqueness.

We are allowed to be ourselves and not have to conform to what’sexpected of us where we are not given the opportunities of our own

expressions.

Be different, be creative, be yourself.Instead of focusing on the blue, look at the myriad of colours that make

up who you are.

But be mindful of God given restrictions the make us free and not thehindrances of men that bind us.
