A number of afternoonlevening courses in behavioural teaching for parents of the handicapped child and adult will be held throughout the year. **Dates will be decided as soon as sufficient applications have bccn rcccived. VISITING WORKSH0,PS Introduction to behavioural principles and practice A team of up to four BIMH tutorial staff will visit establish- ments on request to conduct introductory workshops in behavioural principles and practice in mental handicap. The workshops will generally be for a period of two days. Lectures, seminars, video-tapes and practicals will form the basis of each workshop. Content will be varied to suit the needs of individual establishments but there will be an emphasis on developing self-help skills, communication and rehabilitation programmes. A preference will be exercised to accept invita- tions from establishments where members of staff have already had some experience in behavioural principles. This is most likely to have been acquired by attending previous BIMH introductory workshops. An introduction to educational rhythmics with the mentally handicapped BIMH tutorial staff will visit establishments on request to conduct one-day workshops as an introduction to the use of educational rhythmics with the mentally handicapped. Each workshop will include informal lectures and practical instruction which will permit full participation of the people attending. 68 Two-day workshops in curriculum planning conduct two-day workshops in curriculum planning. Aims: The course is designed to give participants an insight into some of the problems caused by visual handicap and blind- ness, to suggest techniques of management and offer ideas for appropriate training activities. It will comprise short lecture sessions, followed by practical work and discussion on such themes as: improving mobility; teaching self-help skills; assess- ment and use of residual vision. N.B. Visiting workshops can be booked singly or as a “package” providing information on two or more selected subjects. Further information available from BIMH Central Office.
