We have to understand Vrindavan Dham throughthe Goswami s. ei chay gosi jr mui tro ds We arethe servant of those who follow the Six Goswamis.[Narottam Das Thakur,Nma-sakrtana,text 6]

rpa-raghuntha-pade hoibe kutikabe hma bujhabo se jugala-priti

When shall I be eager to study the books of the SixGoswamis? One has to learn of the conjugal loving affairsof Radha-Krishna through the teachings of these SixGoswamis. [Narottam Das ThakursPrrthan, song 1]

Jugala-pirti, the love affairs of Krishna and Radharani, are not ordinary. They are completely spiritual. radhaka-praaya-vikti[Cc . di 1.5] It is not the affairof some young boy and young girl. It is the exhibition

of the pleasure potency of Krishna.hldin aktir asmt It is completely spiritual. Do not immediately tryto understand Radha-Krishnas playing. Oh, becauseI have come to Vrindavan, let me immediatelyunderstand Radha-Krishnas rsa-ll. It is not so easy.Narottam Das Thakur says [Prrthan song 1]:

viaya chiy kabe uddha habe manakabe hma herabo r-vndvana

As long as you have got the propensity for sensegrati cation there is no possibility for understandingVrindavan. There is no possibility. Viaya means

    this hra-nidr-bhaya-maithunam eating, sleeping

and sex life. If you are still inclined for these thenthere is no possibility of understanding what isVrindavan. This is the con dential message givenby Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and his followers. From a lecture in Vrindavan, August 1974.

He who gives up desire for other women with intenseattachment for one woman, like Rama for Sita, is calledanukla, the well-disposed lover. Krishna is famous for hisanukla attachment to Radha. Upon having her company,he does not remember the company of anyone else.

Srila Jiva Goswami: A dramatic hero is known asanukla when due to his amorous attachment for aparticular woman he gives up the desire for otherwomen. This is exempli ed by the singular attachmentLord Rama had for Sitadevi. Krishnas amorous attractionfor Sri Radha is renowned for having the same quality when Krishna is in the company of Sri Radha he neverremembers the company of any other woman.

Since the desire for other women is improper andsince he has taken a vow of having only one wife,

accepting only one wife with complete dedication isnot dif cult for Rama. However, Krishna sees Radhawhile in the presence of many gops. In such a situationit is dif cult to forget the desirable women surroundinghim. Yet, upon seeing Radha, he forgets all others. Thisstrong inclination that Krishna has for Radha, evenunder such circumstances, is declared to be the topmostexample of a hero demonstrating a favorable naturetoward a heroine. [Translators comment: Krishnasmdhurya-rasa is universal since all jvas are potentiallycapable of tasting it. However, Lord Ramas conjugaltendencies are seen only with Sitadevi and not with any jva. Therefore his conjugal feelings are not universal. Thus, someone may say that the comparison given inthis verse is not justi ed because of a lack of universality( srvatrikbhvt ) of the conjugal mood in Lord Rama. However, Srila Jiva Goswami here is saying that such athought should not be entertained.]

Thus when Krishna took Radha and disappeared duringthe rsa-ll, he did not meet the other gops, though theywere suffering. Gta-govinda (3.1) says, rdhm dhyahdaye tatyja vraja-sundar Taking Radha in his heart,Krishna gave up the other women of Vraja.

Srila Vishwanath Chakravarti Thakur: Becauseof being intensely attached to one woman, Krishnagives up desire for other women. Because the versesays that the desire disappears only at that time anddoes not say that the desire for other women is absentall the time, the theory that Krishna should haveattraction to no other women is defeated.

The phrase when Krishna sees Radha also means

when he hears of or remembers her. It is easy for Rama

to be anukla to Sita since he took a vow of having onlyone wife. But it is dif cult for Krishna to beanukla toRadha since he has many women. But because the mostastonishing level of premaexists in her, he forgets allother women who have prema for him. The superiorityof Krishnasanuklasentiments to those of Rama is

indicated here. [See also next article in this issue.] Adapted from Bhanu Swamis translation with Sri VaikunthaEnterprises, Chennai, India, and Sanskrit from Gaudiya GranthaMandir (http://www.granthamandira.com)

Thus, the enemy of Kamsa placed in his heart the gopnamed Radha, who was like a chain binding himto the sasra of conjugal affairs. In this way he gaveup the company of all other gops.

r-gta-govinda-vykhyna commentary by SrilaPrabodhananda Saraswati Thakur: In the rsttwo chapters of this literature, Radhas longing for

Krishna was described. Krishnas longing for Radha isnow described. Krishna, the enemy of Kamsa, gave upthe other gops since he had placed Radha in his heart. This indicates Krishnas intense attraction for Radha.Radha acted as a chain to bind Krishna to impressions
