• Many association or community based organisation in PNG but this association focus on Women Economic Empowerment.
• Women at the village: Most women are illiterate
Background of Association
• Binz Ice Ambra Association was established in
2016 and formally launched in February 2017.
• Vision: To empower the women of Tsenglap Tribe in
the North Waghi District of Jiwaka Province.
• Mission: To improve the economic and social wellbeing
of village women through Education, SME,
Microfinance, Agriculture & Tourism Activities.
• Values: Hard work & Sweat, No Free Hand-Out,
Honesty, Transparency, Accountability and Innovation.
• The association aims to improve the economic and
social well-being of village women through:
• KRA 1 _ Education
• KRA 2 _ SME
• KRA 3 _ Microfinance
• KRA 4 _ Tourism / Agriculture
• The association currently has 200 registered
members
Case of Human Development at BinzIce Ambra Association
• Case Method (Personal, data from Mibank and interview)
Mibank Agent was established in February 2017 after a one week Financial Literacy training provided by the bank to the women in the village.
A total of 108 women participated in the training. 80 of them opened their new Micash mobile bank bankaccount.
The agent currently has 107 customers. Some are males, children/local businessman
The agent is located within the village easily
accessible by all the villagers to do their banking.
The two village women operate the agent and they
have been continuously trained by Mibank to operate the agent.
MiCash is a Mobile Wallet and a Savings Account.
MiCash is accessed through a mobile phone
currently using the Digicel Network. Attached to a
fully integrated banking system it allows customers
to perform Banking activities like transfer money
and balance check, in the comfort of their homes
and protected by a four digit PIN number. (Mobile
banking system)

Conclusion
• 80% of our population live in the rural areas where
basic services are limited or non existent to the
community.
• This case shows human development at the village
level through banking service and financial literacy
training. This indicates that Association or
Community based organisation is a model to bring
effective development to the village level.
