how to prevent stains:

The ALEX Water Analysis Program used by your BioGuard Dealer is a great way to determine which metals are present in the water and help prevent staining before it occurs.

Also, have your source water tested for metals, especially if your water comes from a well. If your water tests positive for high levels of metals, follow the maintenance directions detailed above to help ensure staining won’t become a problem.

Nothing can spoil the appearance of your pool like a stain.

Most stains are caused by metals that were once dissolved in your water but have fallen out on your pool surface. The two most common stains are caused by copper or iron but the treatment for these two stains are not alike. This is why it is important to identify which type of stain you have before you start treating the stain.

Copper stains tend to discolor pool surfaces with an aquamarine or blue stain. Iron stains tend to discolor pool surfaces with a rust or brown colored stain.

Metals can enter into pools in several different ways. The most common is from the fi ll water, especially with iron. However, copper can fi nd its way in to a pool not only from the fi ll water, but also from unchelated copper-based algicides and corroded copper heaters.
