    1/1

    Final Examination

Section A: Multiple choice questions (45%)

    - All lecture materials.

    - Higher weighting on lectures after the mid-term exam.- Please refer to sample questions in moodle.

    Section B: Short questions (55%)

    - The following lecture notes may be covered in the short questions:

    - TCA cycle

    - Photosynthesis

    - Fatty acid catabolism

    - Biosynthesis of fatty acids and TAG

    - Amino acid metabolism (up to p. 13)

    - Structure drawing based on given substrate structures (i.e. not from scratch); May need

to write one or two reaction steps based on given structures.

    - For fatty acids, shorthand notations, e.g. 18:0, 18:2(9,12), etc., will be provided and you

are expected to know how to draw the zig-zag structures accordingly.

    - Enzyme, co-factor/co-enzyme, and metabolite names will be useful to answer the short

questions. Abbreviations are okay but they should be consistent with those used in

    lecture notes

    - Overall metabolic conversions (one question): starting substrates, key metabolites, final

products in the metabolic pathways concerned.- Please refer to sample questions in moodle.

    - No need to use a calculator
