BIOS (Basic Input andOutputSystem) recordshardwareparameters of the system in theEFI on themotherboard.Itsmajorfunctions includeconductingthePower-OnSelf-Test(POST)duringsystemstartup,saving systemparameters and loadingoperating system,etc.BIOS includesaBIOSSetupprogram that allowstheusertomodifybasicsystemconfigurationsettingsortoactivatecertainsystemfeatures.Whenthepoweristurnedoff,thebatteryonthemotherboardsuppliesthenecessarypowertotheCMOStokeeptheconfigurationvaluesintheCMOS.

ToaccesstheBIOSSetupprogram,presstheDEL>keyduringthePOSTwhenthepoweristurnedon.

Chapter 1 BIOS Setup

• BIOSflashing is potentially risky, if youdonot encounter problemsof using the currentBIOSversion, it isrecommendedthatyoudon'tflashtheBIOS.ToflashtheBIOS,do itwithcaution.InadequateBIOSflashingmayresultinsystemmalfunction.

• Itisrecommendedthatyounotalterthedefaultsettings(unlessyouneedto)topreventsysteminstabilityorotherunexpectedresults. Inadequatelyaltering thesettingsmayresult insystem'sfailuretoboot.Ifthisoccurs,trytocleartheCMOSvaluesandresettheboardtodefaultvalues.(Refer to the Exitsectioninthischapterorintroductionsofthebattery/clearingCMOSjumperinChapter1forhowtocleartheCMOSvalues.)

Server Management Serveradditionalfeaturesenabled/disabledsetupmenus. Boot Thissetuppageprovidesitemsforconfigurationofbootsequence. Exit Saveall thechangesmade in theBIOSSetupprogramto theCMOSandexitBIOSSetup.(Pressing
