Birchfield Reserve, Rothbury Court, Wantirna. Community Consultation Design Concept for Playspace Renewal Nature play opportunities for your community March 2017 supporting to build a happy healthy connected community Your New Nature Playspace The existing playspace at Birchfield Reserve will be replaced with a new and exciting play space that has a focus on natural play and eco-friendly materials. Included within the proposed play space is a new timber and steel play structure with inclusive features, a slide, tunnel, climbing net, as well as balance beams, basket swing and seating. Garden beds with informal / indigenous plantings are incorporated within the play space to provide opportunities for natural play and to create habitat for native birds and butterflies. Why Natural Play? Playing outdoors is beneficial for us all, as it helps us connect with nature and allows us to learn, explore and imagine. Play is significant in the development of children’s physical, social and creative skills. Natural play spaces, such as the proposed redevelopment for your local reserve, provide children with the experience of both traditional play equipment and natural elements.
