Birds Found in Arlington, Texas
• I took a walk near a pond in Arlington, Texas on March 18th
• I saw five different birds and used the Merlin app to identify them
Possible Identification: Neotropic Cormorant
Fun Fact: The Neotropic Cormorants’ calls can sounds like a pig’s grunt. In Mexico, sometimes they are called “pato cerdo,” which means “pig
duck!”
Possible Identification: American Coot
Fun Fact: American Coots swim like a duck, but they don’t have webbed feet!
Instead, they have wide “lobes” of skin on each toe.
Possible Identification: Mallard
Fun Fact: Male Mallards can’t quack!
Possible Identification: American Crow
Fun Fact: Crows sometimes make and use tools. Once, a crow was seen using a cup to
carry water!
Possible Identification: Great Egret
Fun Fact: Great Egrets fly around 25 miles per hour
