Dave Reynolds plays his 100th gamefor St. Kevin's today. He started freshfrom school in 1969 and, after playing afew games as ruck-rover in the reserves, graduated to a half-back flank in thefirsts . During the next three seasons hewas a consistent selection on the wing .In 1973 he was absent (with grudgingleave) for the first of what have provedto be regular overseas trips and upon hisreturn played the next two seasonsmainly at centre-half-forward . It wasn'tso much a case of Dave getting biggeras of St . Kev's getting smaller . Thisseason be has played in the centre andoccasionally on the wing and has pro-duced some of his best ever form . Inhis spare time, apart from nearly gettingengaged every now and then, Dave is akeen golfer, frequently seen on thegreens at Victoria. Indeed, prior to hisrecent shift to B .H .P., where he is somesort of financial advisor, he was sofrequently seen on the greens that his

D SECTIO NI am having a mid-season slump
just as Old Xav's seem to be com-ing out of theirs - it would seemthat the O .G .G.'s found Melbourne'sclimate last Saturday to be similarto that in the "snow country" sodecided to stay at home! And totop the week - JOHN BYRNE,whose comments never cease toamaze me, picked the lot. Fancythat !
Seeing that Old Xavs are nowback to their early season formand despite some anxious momentsin the last quarter last week, shouldbe too good for an inconsistent OldBrighton.
Fitzpatrick is in top form forXavs and if Brosnan can getamong the goals the chance will bethere for a good win .
I see Old Haileyburian's bubbleburst last week. What chanceAJAX this week with at least oneplayer out whose name I am notallowed to mention .

Elsternwick who failed me lastweek don't win me today so I'llstick with AJAX to remain un-beaten .
Old Camberwell I'm told, put ona creditable showing last week . Ipick them to play in the finals soI expect them to consolidate theirrating by crushing luckless Na-tional Bank.
State Bank and Brunswick drewlast time - what will happen to-day? With more impressive formsince that round I can't see today'sgame being anywhere near as tight .State Bank, at home, will win welland I hope to be there to see someof the game.
Assumption are back in businessbut Old Geelong will allow them norelaxation. The O.G.G.'s taste ofsuccess last week will inspire to-day and I expect a close game .However, Assumption, althoughsometimes, unpredictable, will holdonto their place in the four .
SELECTIONS - State Bank,AJAX. Old Camberwell, Assump-tion, Old Xaverians . - JIM FIDGE.
E SECTIONThe game must be easy if I can
pick 5 winners in this section andKeith can do the same two weeksin a row.
We will work our way down theladder and deal with St. Kevinswho should beat North Brunswickout in the smog .
La Trobe Blacks at home shouldbe able to cope with AMP Society, although the latter mob need thisone if they are to justify a season'shard work. La Trobe Blacks towin .
Old Mentonians visit St. Pat'sand should win. They are, and willbe, pressed right to the end of theround by three other clubs socannot afford to take any game forgranted .
Common Bank to beat MonashWhites and stir up the bottom ofthe ladder . It could be that 5 winswill be needed to avoid relegation ,
Page 8
so let's see some of that old-tirnespirit .
A.N .Z . Bank and Heatherton isanother critical game for botl, teams. Both had good wins lastweek so the only obvious advantageis Flinders Park. A.N.Z . to stay inthe four.

F SECTIONSyd Whitfield should be feeling
pleased with himself, tipping thecard last week particularly withweather conditions as they were- this is no lead up for me but allthe right teams came home in "r,Section too.
West Brunswick worry me, canthey go through the season unde-feated, what about the finals, wellthis week certainly will not causethem any traumas, University Redswon't come within a bull's roar.
Beverley Hills and Footscray I.T .will be a tough game, both sideshave been playing well lately but Iwill play safe and go for the hometeam (guess who will win now?
Bulleen United will just havethe edge over Thornbury, again be-cause of the home ground .
St. Bede's must have been pres .sed by Thornbury last week andmust show some more determina-tion against Bulleen-Templestoweand this will be just the case doj~,nat the Beda Park paddock .
Glenroy will come back thisweek with a win over La TrobeUniversity Reds . Am not sure thatGlenroy will welcome my confi-dence in them but after last weekanything could happen .
SELECTIONS .- West B:uns-wick, Beverley Hills, B u I I e e nUnited, St . Bede's, Glenroy. -KEITH FINDLAY .
JUNIOR SECTION 1It is easy to make excuses for
poor performances but in my opin-ion the thing that is required ismore hard work and concentration.
THE AMATEUR FOOTBALLER - JULY 10, 1976
;lfter several hours I have ar-rived at the following conclusions .
Ivanhoe have consolidated theirposition in the four and although
ampton Rovers will be ,trying tomake the most of their home,,round to help them avoid relega-tion, they will find the 'Hoes mov-ing the ball far too quickly .
power House returned to the win-ning list last week and should be
theconfident. However, afte rof Monash,•incing performance
at Ormond last week, Inust select Monash.Ormond travel to Royal Park to
play North Old Boys and they cert-have the potential to bea t
r l1 . The winner of this gamewell be decided when the
p;ains toss the coin. On form,[ must go for North .
University Blues suffered a sur-prise defeat last week and will bekeen to return to the winners list. They should not be troubled byold Scotch. In fact, if Scotch winI wi11 offer to do one hour's work,or Laurie Aghan free of charge (atn~, pace!).
Coburg are at home to UniversityBlacks. They are behind the Blackson percentage but will move upthe ladder today and could im-prove their percentage considerably;r th the benefit of a win like last,ti•eek's .
At the time of going to press, your scribe is in the middle of aconversation with Power Housecoach, Gary Boyd, concerning re-ference to "unfair tactics" by hisside. I think Power House is agreat Club and would not for onemoment try and say anything un-just about them. There may bemore on this matter next week .
SELECTIONS - Ivanhoe, Mon-ash University, University Blues,North Old Boys, Coburg . - PETERNATHAN.
JUNIOR SECTION 2As the Season moves to its
climax the struggle for the finalsbecomes more intense. So with the
tipsters, whose tallies are becom-ing more similar as each weekpasses. And so to the task whichpresents itself.
I wish I had the confidence toselect Old Paradians te defeatThomastown at Yarra Park. Thisgame could well determine "Pey-ton's Place" in the competition.
Recent form by the Paradianshas taken them to third place .However Thomastown gain mynod because of their overallstrength as shown by Czerny atcentre forward and Dri in theruck. But it would not surprise meif Thomastown met their Waterlooin Yarra Park! !
St. Bernard's will need to restoretheir confidence with a big win atKew. This they should manage.Their place in the four is at stakeand so I foresee another torridafternoon ahead for the Kew de-fenders .
Reservoir Old Boys travel intoAlphington where they shouldscore another victory. Reservoirwill be anxious to insure that theiropportunity for a place in thefinals remains present.
West Brunswick face their sec-ond successive defeat at the handsof Caulfield Gramma rians whotravel north to Royal Park .
Caulfield's confidence was re-stored last Saturday by their bigvictory and I see another victorycoming their way today.
By selecting Caulfield I can beassured of a warm welcome bythe Magpie brains trust after Iwalk over to the Ransford Oval .
De La Salle should be able toaccount for Geelong at Albert Park .Geelong's inability to field a sidelast Saturday will not have helpedtheir cause .
At the same time De La Sallereturned to the winning list so thelatest form if nothing else pointsto a "De La" victory today .

He again visited Adelaide in1974 and also played against Tas-,l,anla at Hobart the same year .
Last season he was again select-ed to play against Tasmania atElsternwlck Park.

Before joining North Old Boys,ie played with West Preston

Kevin is an all-year-round sport, playing cricket with Ivanhoe Sub-District club in the summer. Healso enjoys a game of golf - butdon't get the idea that he doesn'tenjoy his football !

BALL BRIEFS
150 TO R.O .B . PRESIDENTCongratulations to Reservoir Old Boys
c :ub President, Fred Tuininga, on play-ing his 150th game against St . Bernard'slast Saturday. Fred has done a tremen-dous job, both on and off the field, overihe years. He has seen the club go fromRags to Riches . He instigated the move
get a new coach, being Laurie Aghan, hen the club was struggling in °F"
zrade . The club went through to "A"2rade in consecutive years . During thoseiears he captained the club's greatestsides - "C" and "B" to premiershipsin 1972 and 73 . A versatile player, Fredhas played in many positions such asruck-rover, centre-half-back, full-back and-:en full-forward. He has played his bestfootball on the back line and with his>Poiling tactics and great determination, has played many excellent games for thedub. This year has not been the clubsbest, and has placed great pressure on=red, being president and player . How-ever, he has come through with flyingco1ors and he has the respect of all the
players and officials . The club hopes tosee Fred Tuininga around for many yearsyet. Keep up the mighty work, Fred.
Reservoir Old Boys congratulate BobTaggart on playing 50 games with theclub. Bob is a beautiful left foot kickand plays mainly on the wing . He hasplayed some great games over the yearsespecially on Elsternwick park (at leastGeorge Mc thinks so) . Bob has all theattributes for a top player, pace, mark-ing and kicking ability and courage. However he lacks that little bit of con-centration needed to top his game off,at the moment. Well done Robert !
Anthony "Tonto" Parsons a staunchclubman and committeeman for FawknerAmateurs is shortly moving to Queens-land. Whilst his assistance and clubdedication will be missed, the Fawkswish him every success in the SunshineState.

350 GAMES TO POWER HOUSE CHAMPEveryone at Power House congratulate s
Peter Hutchinson who plays his 350thgame with the club today. This milestoneis only a few games short of the recordfor an amateur footballer held by anotherPower House great, Les Gordon. In over twenty years of amateur foot-
ball, Hutchy has a record, few if anycould match. Hutchy has won sevenclub Best and Fairest awards, played inthree premiership teams, representedVictoria and is a former Power Housecaptain, In 1972, in recognition of hisoutstanding achievements and service tothe game he received perhaps his finestaward - that of Amateur Footballer ofthe year at St. Bernard's Grand FinalBreakfast .
Hutchy is currently captain-coach ofthe Reserves as well as playing in theruck and forward pocket in the Seniorswhere his strength and experience arestill a headache to opposition backmen .Although plagued by injuries in recentseasons, Hutchy never turns in a badgame .
Almost as well known for his off thefield performances, Hutchy can usuallybe found after the game having a drinkwith the opposition. His prowess ofcourse as a leader of community singingor as a storyteller is renowned, and weall expect him to be in fine form tonightfor the celebrations .
In private life, he is a devoted familyman . Without the support of his wife,Gwen, he would probably not havereached this milestone today .
Well done Hutchy on a mighty effort !

Tenacious M .H .S. back-pocket playerRoss Wood played his 150th game forthe club last Saturday in our near upsetwin against Caulfield Grammarians . Rossstarted with the Juniors in 1968 andduring his years with the club has
missed very few games through injury .He is regarded by many to be one ofthe best back-pockets to play with theclub and although he confesses to lovethe position he has been forced, at times,to move to the centre or half-forward togive us a boost . Congratulations ROSSfrom all at M .H .S .

U mpire Committee ChairmanALF KEAM
Alf Keam was appointed Chairman of the Umpire Committee of theV . :1 .F .A. after serving a term of five years as a member of that com-mittee, and after an even longer playing career.
Alf spent most of his Amateur football days wearing the maroon, green and black of Melbourne High School Old Boys, apart from oneseason with University Blacks .
He started with Melbourne Highill 1940 and chalked up more than130 games with them, and even asate as 1967 or 1968, when hewas over 40, he still stripped withthe Reserves on occasions .
Alf's playing position was the%~ - ing, where his sprinting abilityand solid 5'7~" and 12~ stonestood him in good stead, but as heI1imself admits, he dropped backinto the back pocket as he slowedLIT) in later years .
He served, in the Royal Austra-lian Navy during the War (from1912 to 1946) and rose to the rankof Lieutenant .
During his war service, Alfplayed football with Sydney NavalDepot in 1943 and with Subiaco(W.A.) in 1945 .
Then it was back to his oldclub, but he transferred to Univer-sity Blacks in 1949, in the final yearof his Commerce degree course .
Alf was Melbourne High's Dele-gate to the V.A.F .A. for about 10vears, and became a member ofthe Umpire Committee in 1971 . Thefollowing year he was appointed tothe Selection Committee, a positionhe still holds .
He was Treasurer of M .H .S . clubin 1948 and held the office of
President from 1967 to 1971 .Golf and tennis are among his
other sporting interests, and he isa member of the Finance Sub-Com-mittee of Metropolitan Golf Club- rather appropriate, as Alf is astockbroker .
In his younger days (Alf is nowin his 50's), he was keen on athle-tics and won a Sports Championaward at Melbourne High .
Serving on committees and soforth is not the limit of Alf's at-tributes - he has done a wonder-ful job as compere of St. Bernard'sGrand Final Breakfast the lastthree years .
