Hermie the caterpillar and his many-
legged friends have gathered for a fun day
in the garden to celebrate your little bug’s
birthday! Invite the friends in your garden
to come and join them as they explore the
wonderful world God created for them.
Birthday Extravaganza!
Here are some ways to make sure your extravaganza is a
success:
• Create a garden that is sure to impress. Make sure your home
is decorated to make all the creatures and kids feel welcome as
they step into the garden extravaganza. Use green streamers from
the ceiling and shelves so that you are surrounded by high grass.
Create flowers by crumpling different colored crepe paper, and tie
them off with green pipe cleaners. Or save the flower-creation as a
craft for your garden guests.
• Hello, I’m Billy the Beatle…. Print out the name tags
provided, and let your guests choose a critter character to go with
their name: Fiona the Fly, Cara the Caterpillar, let the
imaginations go wild!

Birthday Extravaganza!
• Let the games begin! Included in this kit are fun activities
for kids to complete at your party or to take home as party favors.
Make sure you are ready with markers, crayons, and colored pencils
– and enough kits for all your guests!
• Watch the real garden gang strut their stuff. Put in one of
Hermie’s great DVD adventures and let your guests re-enact their
favorite scenes when it’s over. Talk about the lesson Hermie and
his friends learned in that episode.
• Everyone’s a lady bug in this party game, a garden twist on
musical chairs: o Cut one large leaf out of green construction
paper for each guest. Scatter the leaves randomly on the floor of
the main area with space in between each so that no two
overlap.
o Pick your favorite Hermie music, and tell your guests that,
when the music starts playing, they should hop and skip around the
room, pretending to be ladybugs flying through a garden. Then, when
the music stops, they must each find a leaf on which to land.
o To begin the game, start playing the music. Stop the music
after a few moments, and wait while each of your guests finds a
leaf. (In the first round, there should be one leaf per player.
Start the music again, and then pick up one leaf while the children
are moving around the room. When you stop the music the second
time, all but one child will have a leaf to stand on; this child
must leave the garden (i.e. sit out until the end of the game).
o Continue playing, removing a leaf after each round, until only
two children are left in the game. The last child to stand on a
leaf with both feet is the winner. Reward the winner with a Hermie
DVD or plush caterpillar!
