    Red light/green light

    Children are arranged in a line about 20m from the shallow end of the pool. The party host will call one of three phrases, red light (stop), green light(move fast) or orange light (move slow), and the children will move towardsthe wall according to the instructions. If the child continues to move oncered light is called the child must return to the beginning of the line. Thisgame is good when first entering the pool or when trying to get children outof the water.

    Red roverChildren are arranged in a line with one person standing in the middle of the boundary. The person in the middle calls over a certain group of children e.g. people with goggles, wearing blue etc. As the children aretrying to get to the other side they have to avoid being tagged by theperson in the middle. The remaining children will go to the other side afterthe initial group has finished. They cannot be tagged. If a child in the firstgroup is tagged they must try and catch the others until there is only oneperson left.

    ChaseyOne child is it and must tag all of the children until there is only one left.Once the child is tagged they cannot move.

    Stuck in the mud:A child is chosen to be it and tags others. Once tagged others may tap themon the shoulder to get them untagged. Those who are tagged must placetheir hands on their head to indicate that they are tagged. It may be usefulto have a boundary for this game to avoid children running away.

    Shark and fish (Cat and mouse)This game is ideal for younger children. The children must stand in a circleholding hands with one child in the centre (fish) and the other on theoutside of the circle (shark) the shark must try and catch the fish bymanoeuvring in and out of the circle.

    Whats the time Mr. Wolf This game is good for younger children. The children line up about 10maway from the wall with one child standing at the wall. They chant Whatsthe time Mr Wolf? and the child at the wall responds with a time whichcorresponds with the number of steps the children take towards the wall.Once the children are close to the wall the child chants dinner time andhas to catch a child who will then become the wolf.

    Whirl pool:Get children to stand in a circle about arms length from each other.

    Start them running while keeping in a circle. When the whirlpool is created,stop them running and see if they can float with the current. Then get themto change direction.

    Under and over relays:

    Leader splits up group into two teams side by side. Ball is alternatelypassed between legs and over heads. Back person brings ball to front of lineas for tunnel ball, repeat to starting position.Relays:Leader conducts two relay races with balls, mats, noodles, sinky toys, etc.Always use the up and back method as it is easier to organise.

    Mat ball:Each team appoints a catcher, to score a point they must get the ball to thecatcher who must stand within 1 metre from the wall of the pool.

    Chain Chasey:One person is it and when they tag someone else, they hold hands and soon until everyone is caught.

    Dr. ChaseyWhen the child is tagged they place one hand on the body part they weretagged on. They them swim to the host (doctor) who will repair them.

    Sharks treasureOne child is the shark and stands at one side of the pool with their back to

    the group and a sunken object at their feet. The remaining children line upat the other side. On the go signal, the children attempt to sneak up on theshark and steal the tressure. If the shark turns around and spots someonemoving, that child returns to the start. If a child steals the tressure theybecome the shark.

    Dolphin relayDivide the party into two teams. The first team member will push a ball withtheir head to the boundary and back again where then next team mate willdo the same. This is repeated until an entire team finishes the race andputs their hands on their heads. If a child touches the ball with their handsthey have to start again.

    Over/under gameDivide the party into two teams and put them into two lines. At thebeginning of each line put a bucket. At the end of a line give each child asponge that they use to absorb as much water as they can. They then passthe sponge along the line and once it gets to the beginning they squeeze asmuch water as they can into the bucket. The first team to fill their bucketwins.
