This week the Nursery children have been finding out moreabout the Festival of Light - Diwali. Mrs Khosla, a nursery parentcame in to talk to the children about the celebrations. Thechildren then used clay and moulded it to create their own diya’s.They waited patiently for the clay to dry before painting themwith vibrant colours.

Year 2 Year 2 children have created angle eaters and also decoratedthem in Maths this week. They help us discover right angles –angles that are 90 degrees.

Once they were finished the children had great fun using themto eat some right angles in the classroom - munch munch!

Year 3Year 3 children have enjoyed a 'Field to Fork' Workshop at Tescothis week. Some of the highlights were making their own healthycereal, touching a mackerel, investigating different fruit andvegetables and where they have come from, tasting prunes, tzatziki and crackers and going into the massive freezer at -18.9degrees!

It was great fun and perfect for their healthy eating topic inScience.

Year 3 children have also been learning about 3D shapes. Wehave been revising the names of 3D shapes and learning todescribe 3D shapes using mathematical vocabulary (faces, vertices and edges).

Some of the children played a matching game and had to workin small groups to take turns and discuss their ideas. Why nothave a 3D shape search at home over the holidays?

World Mental Health Awareness Day

This week our Year 7 & 8 students recognised World MentalHealth Awareness Day by wearing yellow #HelloYellow. For those that were not able to make our forum last week, MrBoorman talked about Bishopsgate's strategy on Mental Health.Part one was about educating our staff, Part two was aboutraising awareness among the pupil body which is well underwayand Part 3 is making you, the parent, up to speed. We would urge you, as parents, to create a culture at home inwhich your child feels comfortable discussing feelings andemotions. Do not be afraid to ask difficult questions and do notbe afraid to contact the school to seek advice. A child that is able to express emotion and share problems hasthe foundations to maintain positive mental health. Recently, MrsSchofield (School Nurse) and Mr Boorman completed the MentalHealth First Aid qualification and Mrs Schofield now takes thelead in this area. There will be lots more to come on this criticaltopic as we continue to raise awareness throughout theBishopsgate community, but in the meantime, please do gettalking to your children about this and encourage opendiscussion around mental health!

Dick Moore’s Top Tips!Following the inspirational talk given by Mr Dick Moore lastweek, he was keen to remind you of his top tips!- Talk to your children and listen to them even if they don’treceiprocate!- Communicate with school and those that know your childrenwhom they have positive relationships with- Don’t hesitate to contact your GP should you have anyconcerns - Avoid imposing your own aspirations on your children- Avoid negativity- Take a deep breath and don’t insist on the last word.

St George’s 7 a-side Football TournamentTwo U10 Bishopsgate teams took part in the St George's Annual7 a-side Football Tournament in the grounds of Windsor Castlelast week. As summer clung on with its fingernails, the twoteams enjoyed favourable conditions on a very enjoyablemorning of football, with both the A and B teams faring well intheir respective competitions.

The As, under the tutelage of Mr Wood, improved upon adisappointing outing at the Twickenham Prep Tournament toensure that they made it to the semi-finals of the plate wherethey cruelly lost to the last kick of the game in extra time. MrPerry's charges, however, continued their rich vein of form andwent one better than last time out - winning the B team RoundRobin Tournament outright.

They have now had two full tournaments without losing a game(13 matches in case you were wondering), and brought homesilverware both times. Impressive performances all round meantthat it was a real team effort and the eight boys involved can bethoroughly delighted with their victory. Captained by goalkeeperSam Golding (pictured), the team were delighted to bring thecup back to Bishopsgate and will hope that next year's Year 5'swill build upon this in 2018.

St Neot’s 6 a-side TournamentThe Bishopsgate 1st VI team attended the annual St Neot's 6a-side tournament. The tournament usually falls just after theIAPS regional qualifying round which the team attended at theweekend and so felt very prepared. The preparation reallyshowed with the team looking very organised and getting somegreat early wins to establish themselves in 2nd place within thegroup and qualify for the semi finals where they faced HolmeGrange.

A very dominant performance not allowing Holme Grange anyshots on target resulted in a convincing 2-0 win. The bestperformance of the season so far! Unfortunately theperformance could not be replicated in the final which wasnarrowly lost 2-0. Mr Baumgart is thrilled with the progress theboys have made since the beginning of the year and looksforward to finish the season strongly after half term.
