Details of Courses Pilani Campus: Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biotechnology are the various fields available with BE (Hons.). Under M.Sc. (Hons.) courses like Biological Sciences, Economics, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics are available. Courses like General Studies, Finance and Information Systems are available under M.Sc. (Tech) besides B.Pharm (Hons.) Hyderabad Campus: Except Biotechnology course from the above, the rest all other courses are available along with Electronics and Communication Engineering (BE Hons). Under M.Sc. (Hons) all the above listed courses are available. B.Pharm (Hons) is also available whereas, under M.Sc. (Tech) only Information Systems is available. Goa Campus: Chemical Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering, Mechanical Engineering are available under B.E. (Hons.). Similar to the Pilani campus, all M.Sc. (Hons.) and M.Sc. (Tech.) in Information Systems are available. Details of Courses

Pilani Campus: Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical and

Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering, Mechanical

Engineering, Biotechnology are the various fields available with BE (Hons.). Under M.Sc.

(Hons.) courses like Biological Sciences, Economics, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics are

available. Courses like General Studies, Finance and Information Systems are available under

M.Sc. (Tech) besides B.Pharm (Hons.)

Hyderabad Campus: Except Biotechnology course from the above, the rest all other courses

Eligibility Criteria:

In order to gain admission into any of the above mentioned courses, the candidate must

have completed 10+2 in any state or central government recognized board or should have

passed 12th class with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as the major subjects. The

students should have attained an aggregate of 75% in these subjects and also more than

60% in individual subjects along with competent proficiency in English language. Students,

whose year of passing the qualifying examination is earlier than 2012, are not eligible for

BITSAT 2013. Those who are taking the qualifying examination in 2013 or who already took

their qualifying examination in 2012 are only eligible for BITSAT 2013. The first rankers of all

the state boards and central board examinations of 10+2 are directly given admission

irrespective of their BITSAT scores.

BITS Admission Test Details

The candidate has to select his/her answers to the questions displayed on the

computer screen either using a mouse or a keyboard. Student can select his/her choice of

examination centre and time of the examination. BITSAT has four sections in all (refer to the

table below).

A total of 150 objective questions will be given. Each question has four options of

which only one is correct. Every time the student answers a question correct, he gets 3 marks

and a mark will be deducted every time he/she goes wrong. So, total marks that can be

scored are 450. There is no restriction on the time for individual sections. Candidate can

answer the questions in a random manner. There is no restriction on the order to be

followed in attempting questions. The total time allotted for 150 questions is 3 hours. If a

student finishes his question in less than 3 hours, he/she will have the provision to choose 12

more questions (4 in each of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry). Once the student opts for

these additional questions, he will have to forgo his chance to revisit the earlier 150

questions. If the student marks wrong answers in these 12 questions, he/she will be

penalized by negative marking. Calculators of any form, logarithmic tables etc., are not

allowed into the examination hall. Students will also be put under Web Cameras and CCTV

watches for security purposes.

Application Procedure

Eligible candidates will have to register themselves for BITSAT online at the official website,

www.bitsadmission.com. After filling out the application form, he/she will have to take a

printout of that filled in form. Along with the printout, a Demand Draft for Rs. 1850/- (Rs.

1350/- for girls) should be sent in an envelope to the Admissions Officer, BITS Pilani –

333031. If paying through other modes of payment, the fee is Rs. 1750/- (Rs. 1250/- for girls).

The registered candidate will have to select his preferred centre, date and time of the

examination and then download the hall ticket. The filled in application form should reach

the admissions office by 05:00PM of 15th February, 2013. The tests will be conducted from

14th May, 2013 to 01st June, 2013.

Those who scored well enough for admission into BITS have to apply for admissions

separately using the appropriate form, whose details will be made available in the BITS

Website after 20th May, 2013.

Syllabus for BITSAT

Normally, questions are asked from the CBSE/Intermediate syllabus of Mathematics,

Physics and Chemistry. The English and logical reasoning questions will be of the general

standard questions asked in various competitive examinations. Complete syllabus can be

found in the BITS Website. It is advisable to practice old question papers well in advance to

get an overview of the test and the range of questions that are normally asked in BITSAT.

Preparation Tips for BITSAT

Preparation should be carried out keeping in mind the NCERT/CBSE Syllabus

Old question papers must be thoroughly practiced

It is advisable to take up computer based mock tests as BITSAT is an online exam

Time management and accuracy should be taken care of while practicing. This

ensures less negative marks

English and logical reasoning questions, if dealt with carefully, can help you achieve

better scores

Do not get excited for the extra 12 questions. First attempt the 150 questions

carefully

Try to note down important formulae and concepts in a notebook and revisit them as

frequently as possible

BITSAT is a unique test among all the entrance tests in India. Last year (2012), almost

1,30,000 candidates competed for 2000 seats which means an average of 68 people

competed for a seat in BITS

There are no reservations in BITS unlike the government institutions. Selection is

purely on the basis of merit

Complete flexibility to the student. He/she can follow his/her own choice of

timetable, subjects and classes

After the first year, students get a chance to either change the branch or opt for a

dual degree course

One can get admission into M.Tech. while in B.Tech. or a Ph.D. Admission while in

M.Tech.

between theory and practice
