For those of you who do not know whom Percy Jackson is, he is a ‘demigod’, half human and half god, with his father being Poseidon, the god of the seas. We first encountered young Percy back in 2010 when he set out on an a quest to settle an on-going battle between the gods of Olympus by finding Zeus’ stolen lightning bolt. Since then, he has grown up a bit

after attending Camp Half-Blood, a speciality camp where demigod’s can train.Percy’s latest quest is to go along with Clarisse, the daughter of Ares (god of war) to retrieve the Golden Fleece and heal Thalia’s tree (names so because Thalia, a daughter of Zeus, was turned into a tree when she died to save her friends) which has been poisoned and so the camp

is vulnerable to monsters. No such mission is ever easy and Percy and his friends are likely to encounter many deadly challenges along the way to stop them in their tracks and prevent them from finding the vital Golden Fleece. With a bit of help along the way and a good comradeship will they find the Fleece in time to save the camp, or will they be too late?

Maserati

Maserati was launched in Bologna in 1914 by five brothers who were all car-racing obsessives.

They raced for the Diatto group, and when they finished motor racing, the Maserati brothers decided to build and race their own car.

Mario Maserati, who was an artist, designed the now famous trident logo. He got his inspiration for the emblem after seeing the Fontana Del Nettuno (a monumental fountain located in the Piazza del Popolo in Rome).

When the Maserati brothers sold their shares, the company was taken over by the Orsi family. The Citroen group subsequently purchased it and they sold Maserati to the De Tomaso group. In 1993, Maserati finally came back into Italian ownership when Fiat purchased the business. In 1997, Fiat sold a 50% stake in Maserati to Ferrari who managed to make them a profitable business, but 2005 saw Maserati split from Ferrari and merge with Alfa Romeo.

In 2007 the Gran Turismo was launched and the car helped re-establish Maserati as a cool brand. The car was launched with a 4.2lt engine and the car had a top

speed of 177mph. It became a hit with many celebrities and its stylish looks mated to a fantastic sounding engine made it a winning combination.

The GT was launched in 2008 with a 4.7lt engine, which helped propel the car to 185mph. The cars six speed sequential gearbox and optional Skyhook suspension helped the car compete with the Porsche 911. In 2012 the GT Sport was launched and again an upgraded engine helped the car

get up to 187mph, as well as quickening the 0-60mph dash to 4.7 secs. This latest model now gets LED running lights along with a much more aggressive front and rear spoiler.

The interior is still on par with both Aston Martin and Bentley, and it just oozes class and quality. I would stick with the standard automatic gearbox, as the optional MC Shift allows manual and automatic shift modes, as well as being a £3000 option and not as good as the standard box. Pressing the sport button brings the car alive with much quicker throttle response and the engines note becomes far meatier.

The rear two seats are beautifully sculpted but quite tight for two adults, although they would be OK for short journeys.

This car beats its competition hands down in the style stakes and with its amazing sounding engine. With its recent revisions it also matches them in the handling stakes too and it really is a force to be reckoned with.

I often get asked in the shop for diet coke and see the looks of disappointment on peoples faces when I say sorry I don’t sell any diet drinks. The response is I don’t drink ‘normal coke’ as its too fattening.

Well, from a nutritional perspective I don’t agree with either however, if I was forced to make a choice between a diet coke and a ‘normal’ coke- I would have to choose the normal option.

The artificial sweetener ‘aspartame’ present in diet coke is known to be toxic to the human body. It has been linked to conditions such as acne, depression, bi-polar, osteoporosis and cancer. Latest studies also reveal it actually attributes to weight gain, diabetes and heart disease.

From a weight gain perspective, the problem arises as artificial dis-regulate your own body’s normal response to sugar. When you drink a diet drink your body doesn’t know how to process it. The ‘fake’ sugar tricks your body into thinking you’ve had a sugary drink but the calorific load of that sugary drink isn’t present. The body in turn fails to release the hormone that controls blood sugar and blood pressure.

Is there any wonder that since the introduction of artificial sweeteners in the 1980’s there has been a sharp rise in obesity rates and diabetes globally?

I challenge you for one week to replace your diet coke with water - you will probably see changes in your weight, mood and skin.

Diet drinks. No, I don’t stock them and here’s the reason why……

DHA – for a smarter more trainable puppy

DHA is an omega-3 fatty acid and plays a vital role in vision and development of the central nervous system.During pregnancy, unborn puppies obtain DHA from their mother via the placenta. After birth and until they are weaned, puppies receive DHA through their mum’s milk. After weaning, puppies can obtain DHA through their food.Diet sources: DHA is abundant in fish, e.g. Menhaden, anchovy, salmon, sardines and tuna. In pet foods, the most common sources of DHA are fish, fish meal, and fish oil.

DHA Status in PuppiesStudies conducted by Eukanuba nutritionists provide evidence of DHA benefits. Results from a trainability study show puppies raised by mothers fed an enhanced DHA diet and who received this diet after weaning consistently out performed puppies who were raised by mothers that were fed a diet containing normal DHA levels. This indicated that puppies nourished with enhanced DHA are more trainable.

Puppies nourished with diets containing enhanced levels of DHA showed improved trainability and memory. Eukanuba puppy foods are formulated with ingredients from fish such as fish oil and other high-quality fat sources that provide high amounts of DHA for a smart, trainable puppy.

Kate Baron is a single mother and a hard working lawyer. In the midst of a crisis meeting, she receives the news that her daughter has been suspending from school for cheating. Kate, shocked by this, makes her way to the school only to discover a reality that no parent ever wants to - her daughter, Amelia has killed herself.

After receiving an anonymous text telling her that her daughter didn’t commit suicide Kate sets out on a mission to discover what really happened. Determined to show that it was not a spontaneous suicide as the police claim Kate sifts through Amelia’s emails, text and social media postings to learn the heartbreaking truth of why Amelia was on the school roof that day and why she died.

The story jumps from Amelia’s point of view in the past to Kate’s view in the present to unravel the mystery surrounding Amelia’s death and keeps you guessing all the way through. If you like a good mystery and a book that gets your mind working then this is for you. It is a compelling book that makes you want to continue reading.

Available on Amazon for £3.95 paperback or £3.49 for Kindle.

The Coffee Station was developed in early 2010 by the current owner Lee Monaghan and has grown and progressed year on year with the positive ethos of great food and great coffee. The great coffee comes from Pollards of Sheffield, the beans are roasted on request so are always fresh, providing the wonderful aroma and flavour you expect from coffee produced in such a manor. All sandwiches and cakes are home-made or produced on the premises to a very high standard of which we are very proud. One of our busiest times is early morning, where we produce breakfasts and

our ever popular bacon rolls. In February this year we welcomed our new staff member Lianne Wanless who brought many fresh and innovative ideas along with her wonderful manor and smile. We also welcomed Danielle to the team this month and she is proving to be a valuable asset. Our outside catering is also proving very popular with bespoke buffets for all occasions available, and is an expanding side of the business. We thank all of our customers for their support and look forward to looking after them for many years to come.
