Welcome to the Bizdex Buzz - June Edition!

Welcome to the June edition of Bizdex Buzz. It’s fair to say that issue one has been well received with some fantastic comments made. I think this shows in that over 80% of advertisers have agreed to be part of the second issue. It was also nice to see Jill Cormack turn into a local celebrity with her interview. I wonder how many autographs she has signed.

In all seriousness though, if you have any local good luck stories or anything positive going on please feel free to get in touch as we would love to give some positive coverage. Please have a read of the booklet and use the local advertisers as without them there wouldn’t be a booklet at all. Again I would like to thank websites&print.com for the printing of the booklet and to leaflet drop for the professional distribution of issue one. But most of all to Chris Marshall Designs, the unseen creative spark behind the design of the adverts and book. Don’t forget it’s free to enter the prize draws. Check out last months winners on the competition page.

Who’d have thought that the best part of any film would be played by an army of tiny ‘people’ who don’t actually have any lines as such? Yes Charlie and the chocolate factory had oompa loompas, but they could at least talk. I am of course on about the minions of Universal Pictures 2010 smash hit, Despicable Me. And now, in 2013, get ready for more minion madness in “Despicable Me 2.” Chris Meledandri and his acclaimed film-making team have created an all-new comedy animated adventure featuring the return of Gru (Steve Carell), the girls, the unpredictably hilarious minions... and a host of new and outrageously funny characters. The question is, will this film fall victim of the success of the first encounter we had with the despicable crew. The parenting twist on a mastermind of evil, well, a mind of evil at least, was very well worked but with Gru leaning towards a father figure towards the end of the first film they would have to go down a different route for number two, and thankfully they have. Rather than masterminding evil, Gru et al have, somewhat against their wills, been recruited by the Anti-Villain League in order to assist them in the apprehension of a far greater threat than Gru could ever have been. Despicable Me 2 promises to be utterly hilarious, and one for the whole family. There’s no age that is too old for films like this one. We can only hope it lives up to its older brother...

InstructionsBring a large saucepan of lightly salted water to the

boil. Add the spaghetti or linguine and cook for about 8 minutes, until just tender, or follow pack instructions.

Meanwhile, heat a frying pan and mist it with low fat cooking spray. Add the bacon and spring onions and sauté them with the garlic clove for about 5 minutes, until softened. Discard the garlic clove - it has just been used to give flavour to the

finished dish.Beat the soft cheese and egg together in a mixing bowl, and then add the bacon

and spring onions, stirring until combined. Add the milk, half the Parmesan cheese and the parsley. Season.

Drain the pasta, and then return it to the saucepan with the liquid. Stir in the egg mixture and heat gently for 2 - 3 minutes, stirring, until the mixture has cooked

and thickened.Serve the spaghetti, sprinkled with the remaining Parmesan cheese.

Alnwick Castle and Gardens Alnwick Castle is one of the most beautiful castles in the UK and it’s a great day out for the

whole family. The Duke and Duchess of Northumberland still live in the Castle as their family has for hundreds of years. The castle is known as Hogwarts from the early Harry Potter films, and

there is always a range of exciting activities taking place, including broomstick training with the resident wizards!

Alnwick Garden has beautifully landscaped gardens, brought to life with water. It’s a garden for families, with lots of chances to get wet and play! Take a look at the garden’s extraordinary

centrepiece, the Grand Cascade it is the largest water feature of its kind in the country; have fun avoiding the water jets, younger children can collect water in the mini tractors. Play hide and seek

in the Bamboo Labyrinth, and bounce on the tree house’s high wobbly rope bridges.

South Tyneside Positive Activities and Targeted Youth Support Group(S.T.P.A.T.Y.S.G)

The organisations vision is to…Live in a society that is positive about children and young people in which adults, children and young people will live alongside each other with mutual appreciation and respect, in communities that are nurturing and seeking to help them realise their aspirations and potential.

STPATYSG is a borough wide project which has focused most of its activities in Boldon Newtown. This neighbourhood was chosen because of existing work being carried out; the levels of disadvantage facing children and young people and the high rates of anti-social behaviour in the community, particularly secondary fires. It is in the worst 10% of deprived wards nationally with high levels of child poverty and a worklessness rate among working age adults of 30%.The project is aimed at young people aged 11-25 years. There has been regular contact with approximately 80-90 young people a week through a variety of activities including: youth clubs, detached youth work, positive activities in the form of football, snooker, squash, swimming etc, volunteering and training. In addition the young people have participated in one off events which have included a range of outdoor educational activities including: horse riding, sailing, mountain biking, volunteering opportunities, mountain walking and residential experiences in a range of settings.Of particular note is that 8 of the young people who have been part of this project have become volunteers and undertaken the “level one youth work training course” which was also delivered by the project.

Volunteering Programme.Through our volunteering programme and links with the local allotment we develop environmental work and “task force” type volunteering programmes with young people, local schools and adult partner groups and also deliver a community development element of the work using an inter-generational approach, developing innovative programmes of work. This year these have included conservation work with the Durham Wildlife Trust, development of the community allotment, work with the Boldon Newtown Action Group, working on this year’s Boldon Festival programme and a number of litter picks in the area.

Jamielee Carmen Aged 16- Lost 2 and a half stone and dropped 3-4 dress sizes

“In September 2012 I decided I wanted to lose weight and get fit so I joined Boldon Body Forge. Since September I have lost so far 2 and a half stone and I have dropped 3-4 dress sizes. I still can’t believe how much I’ve lost. I didn’t really have a specific goal I just wanted to be down to a weight I feel comfortable with. Losing the weight I have, has changed my life. I now feel more energetic and healthy, and a lot more confident about myself.I chose and have stuck with Boldon Body Forge, because it works you hard, it’s a fun enjoyable class and the circuit/routine changes every few weeks so you never get bored and are constantly working at new things. I love the girls in there and how we keep each other motivated, and Cheryl gives out tons of help to all the girls and shows that she cares and tries her hardest to make everything just right for everybody. I never dread going like I have with other gyms and classes I’ve been to in the past.I am motivated to keep going by all the support of my family and friends and

knowing that I’m losing weight. I would highly recommend Boldon Body Forge because I am just one example of the weight loss success, Everyone who has been a part of the classes has lost weight and feels better about themselves. I have gained so much advice there and the help and support is brilliant.
