Crispitos came back November, 10 of this year. The new crispitos are healthier
for you since they’re baked, yet they taste just as good as before. They cost a

LMS will be holding a karaoke dance party for all the students that have NO REFER-
RALS November though some of December. Remember you can get referrals by being tardy to
school or class too many times, excessive uniform violations, discipline, and misuse of an elec-
tronic device. If you don’t get any referrals, you will receive an invitation to go to the karaoke
dance party. If you don’t get an invitation, you can’t go. So if you want to go to the karaoke
dance party you better be good and on time for the rest of the month.

National Junior Art Society (NJHAS) is a
program that, putting in Mr. Humber, our LMS art teacher’s words “provides avenues for recog-
nition of artistic talents and opportunities for leadership roles for visual art students, while spotlighting the success and community work of
our school’s art program.”
NJHAS begun in 1989 by the National Art Education Association as a program to “inspire and recognize students who have shown an out-
standing ability and interest in art and to gener-ate interest in art programs at the secondary
level and beyond.” Says Mr. Humber.
Currently there are 5 active members: Emily Connelly as President, Jessica Williamson as Vice President, Lark Walker as Secretary,
Luke Evans as Treasurer, and Baylee Chandler
as Historian. Also there are 8 nominees waiting
to be inducted to the program.
Although it is possible for kids of all three grades to join, sixth grade students don’t usual-
ly get nominated on their first year at LMS. You can only join NJHAS by invitation. To receive that invitation, you must “show great artistic
ability,” as well as keeping a “B” average in ALL your classes , but you are not required to be in art class. Also
you must be junior high age
(11-13) and be enrolled in a school with a
local chapter of
NJHAS.

A.R. Century Club—It Pays to Read
The Maze Runner is an action and
mystery based book. It starts you off asking
a lot of questions and not answering them
until about the fifth chapter. The book
starts off with the main character, Thomas,
in some sort of moving box were he finds
himself scared out his of wits. He can only
remember his name, for some odd reason.
He still knows how the world works like
jobs, cars, people etc., but never a name or
a face of a relative or a friend.
He is helped out of the box and he meets
two guys named Newt and Alby. Alby is
sort of the leader of the place, and Newt is
second in command. Newt is a lot nicer
then Alby is. Alby tries to be nice, but
Thomas isn’t that easy to work with due to
him being scared and out of place.
All in all, the book is very exciting and in-
teresting, though odd at times. It’s very
good, and I do recommend it. The book’s
reading level is 5.3 and is 15 AR points.

Football season is sadly over, but our
7th grade boys had a great run this season with a record of 1-8, but they still lack dedication and need improvement. 8th
grade boys had an excellent season of 7-2, but they too still need more improvement on the other hand. When Coach Varner was asked how well 8th grade boys did this season he informed me that they improved greatly from last year. He also looks for-
ward to the 8th graders winning district in high school. He then went on to express that he feels there’s a strong chance for the
upcoming 7th graders to win district while
next year’s 8th graders will have to dedicate
great time and effort if they expect to go win district. This past week was the 7th graders last football game for the season
and they put up a driving game with Har-din-Jefferson with a score of 22-20 while they were short of winning; they still put up a good game. The 8th graders played very well and crushed Hardin-Jefferson with a score of 34-0! This season will truly
be remembered.
Great job this season, football guys!!!

THE SPOTLIGHT
Our principal, Mrs. Smith, is no
stranger to Liberty; she went to school here from 1st to 11th grade, but graduated from San
Marcos Academy, a boarding school in San Marcos, Texas. She graduated from Lamar University with a Bachelor of Science, second-
ary education with teaching fields in speech and reading. She received a master of Mid-Management in Education from Lamar Univer-
sity.
She began working at Liberty Middle
School in 1992 as a reading teacher. In 2006, she became the Curriculum Facilitator for LMS. She worked as Dean of Academics for
three years at LHS in 2008. She returned to
Liberty Middle School in 2011 as principal.
According to her, the best part of being a principal is having the opportunity to ob-serve the teachers doing what they love: teach-
ing, and students making the connection to learning. “It's all about what's best for the stu-
dents and I feel very fortunate to a part of the process. I work with an amazing staff and the best students ever!” says Mrs. Smith.
Mrs. Smith has two children, Paige and Matt, both graduates of Liberty High School. She enjoys taking cooking classes and experi-
encing new foods to cook and eat. When she has time to watch TV she watches the food
channel. Her favorite food show is Chopped.
Mrs. Fitzpatrick is very excited about math UIL. She
enjoys teaching because she loves kids. Her husband
and son worked for the military, so she is very proud of
this country and the rights that come with it. She
works really hard to teach the kids of this generation.
In one of the pep rallies she was the teacher of the
week. I asked her how she felt about this and she said
“I’m overjoyed, I’ve never won anything like that be-
fore.” In conclusion, she is a hard-working teacher who
loves every second of it. Personally, she is one of my
favorite teachers.

Black Friday is almost here! It is one of the most hectic shopping days of the year in the United
States. The first Black Friday was in the 1960’s. Black Friday is the Friday following Thanksgiving. The reason they call it “Black Friday,” is that “black” refers to the stores moving from “red”
to the “black.” The red means that the stores aren’t making money, and the black means the stores are making money.
Cyber Monday is the Monday following Thanksgiving. It’s a very busy day for online shop-
pers. This year, Cyber Monday will fall on December 1st. Cyber Monday was created in 2005 as a marketing ploy by the U.S. National Retail Federation. Cyber Monday was only the 12th biggest online shopping day. Last year Cyber Monday’s sales were $ 2.29 billion.
Whether you like shopping at a store or shopping online there’s a shopping holiday for you!

Wacky Facts
The History of Thanksgiving Francisco Pacheco
Do you know the history of Thanksgiving
and what it is? Don’t worry. I’ll answer those questions if you don’t know.
First let’s start with when Thanksgiving started. Thanksgiving started in 1621 when the Plymouth colonists and Wampanoag Indians
gathered together to have a feast in autumn. This is one of the earliest records of a thanksgiv-ing feast. Then in 1623 the Pilgrims hosted an-
other Thanksgiving feast celebrating the end of a long drought.
It wasn’t until October 3, 1863 that Abra-ham Lincoln issued the Thanksgiving Proclama-tion stating that the last Thursday in November
would be a day of “Thanksgiving and Praise”.
That was one when Thanksgiving became a na-tional and annual holiday.
Now to the question, what is Thanksgiv-ing? Thanksgiving is a time to gather together with all your family members and sit down for
Thanksgiving dinner and give thanks for all the things you have. The traditional Thanksgiving meal is a turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing,
cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie. So that fur-ther concludes my investigation on what’s
thanksgiving and when it started. So that’s the History of Thanksgiving and how long its been a tradition in the U.S.
