Dear Black Diamond Members: It is great to see everyone coming back to the club and enjoying the facilities. The courses are all in terrific shape and the dining experience is the best it has everbeen. Chef Ken and Ben have developed some incredible menus and introducedsome new programming, such as our wine dinners, that have been very wellreceived. I would like to encourage all of you to bring a guest to Black Diamond in the coming months. We are very excited about the efforts to bring new members and residents to the Club, and we would like to enlist your support. We recentlyintroduced a new referral program that includes a trip for four people to the RitzCarlton, Dove Mountain in Marana, Arizona. The trip includes airfare, hotel stay andgolf at the Golf Club at Dove Mountain, site of the WGC Accenture World Match Play Championship. If you know of anyone who would like to call Black Diamond home, please let us know. We also recently brought back Kerry Rosselet to lead our new marketing efforts.Kerry is one of the most passionate supporters of Black Diamond and we are allthrilled to have her back. Black Diamond has never looked better, so please support your club by bringing guests and sharing the experience. In addition to the new programming and dining experience, we will soon introduce a new dining reservation system to make it easier for you. The on-line system will be managed through the Fore Tees site which you are all familiar with.I am also happy to introduce new members Tom & Judy Barth from Naples, FL. As many of you have seen, we recently broke ground on our third new home. Thenewest one is located in Barton Creek. Please drop by the real estate office toarrange a tour of this one and our other new show homes. Our good friend Rob King recently left to take a job closer to his family and we are in the process of finding a replacement for him. Rob is a huge fan of Black Diamond and while we are sad to see him leave, we are excited for the new opportunity. Many thanks again for all your support. This is shaping up to be our best season yet. When you see Matt DiMase and his crew on the course, be sure and let them know you appreciate the great job they are doing. Our golf staff, led by Bryan Richard, has a busy calendar of events for you. Please be sure and sign up for as many events as you can. As part of our new membership plan we stated that we would form an advisory board of members. We would like to get that started. If you have any interest in being on that board or have someone you would like to recommend, please shoot me an email. I would like to get this going sometime in January. As always, please let us know how we can serve you better. Thanks again formaking Black Diamond your home and club!

Attention Members: I hope everyone enjoyed the Thanksgiving Holiday!
Any member who traveled, welcome back and to those who stayed home were all welcomed with our first frost of the season on Thanksgiving morning. As we move into December, I want to let everyone know that all weak or high traffic areas have been re-seeded.
We will also be fertilizing all over-seeded areas the first part of December.
We also applied our 2nd pre-emergent on all tees, collar, approaches, and fairways on all courses. This pre-emergent will reduce poa-annua and other weeds throughout the winter.
I would like to touch on the mowing height throughout the property. We had one of the wettest November’s on record and the rain set us back in our mowing frequency in every aspect.
Our greens, tees, collars, approaches and fairways are now where we want to be with the exception of the Highlands (because we over-seeded that course last) - those heights of cut should be the same as the other courses no later then December 13th. However, the rough on the Quarry is still being worked down. We are currently mowing the rough at 2.5 inches working our way down to 2 inches. We anticipate mowing at 2 inches during the week of December 9th.
As always, thank you for taking the time to read about the golf course maintenance. I want to wish every member a safe and happy holiday season and I look forward to seeing everyone out on the course.

Last month BDLGA enjoyed a very successful Golf Rules Video presentation by Joan Beasley, Charlotte McKim and Mike Evans (photographer) with the special participation of PGA Rules Official Larry Startzel. Our 9 Hole golfers were also represented for our Ladies’ Day event and video viewing.
Black Diamond is now burgeoning with residents as our snowbirds are almost all back. This brings full fields for our BDLGA golfing events as we start to enjoy the busy coming season of shopping, parties and decorating ... not to mention our Couples’ Club Championship. All of this should add up to a most Merry Christmas and very brightoverall holiday season for all!

Last year, thanks to more than 144 golfers and sponsors,
we were able to donate over $13,000 to the Citrus County
Family Resource Center to help local individuals fighting cancer. Additionally, $4,000 was donated to Moffitt for
cancer research.

BALTUSROL VILLAGE GOLF OUTING A SUCCESS
The Fifteenth Annual Baltusrol Golf and Dinner event was a great success.
The Village competed in a mixed scramble. The results are as follows:
FIRST PLACE: John Rose, Judy Barth, Dick Goss and Jolene Loos
SECOND PLACE: Bryan Richard, Donna Rose, Tom Barth and Sandy Rempfer
THIRD PLACE: Bill Belford, Randy Loos, Nicole Ragaini and Pam Kelly
At the Awards Banquet hosted by John and Donna Rose, a fun Golfer Nickname Trivia contest was conducted. The team of Bill Belford, Randy Loos, Nicole Ragaini, Pam Kelly and Ross McKersie came in first.
The first place winner’s names have been engraved on the special Baltusrol Village Championship plaque alongside the previous year’s winner’s names. The Champions share possession of the plaque throughout the year.
A good time was had by all!

Black Diamond Foundation Partners with the Citrus County Education Foundation
to Provide New Teacher Curriculum Grants By Susan Pratt
Black Diamond Foundation (BDF) works with non-profits throughout Citrus County to expand funding for programs that benefit our young people. As part of that focus, BDF partners with the Citrus County Education Foundation (CCEF) to provide curriculum grants for new teachers to implement inventive education programs. CCEF instituted its curriculum grant program several years ago, providing up to $1,000 to select teachers to help them implement literacy programs in Citrus County schools. The goal of these grants is to provide support to both train new teachers and keep outstanding teachers in Citrus County. In May 2013, BDF provided a community grant of $4,000 to CCEF to improve instruction in County classrooms. Funding provided by BDF is matched by the State of Florida with funds designated for County education foundations. As a result our $4,000 grant was worth $8,000! This year, CCEF’s annual award program totaled $56,000, an increase of $11,000 over 2012. Funding for curriculum grants is sent directly to the schools. Orders for program materials are placed through the school business office. Teacher curriculum grant requests are submitted in September. A committee of CCEF Board members selects programs to receive funding. Susan Pratt, a member of the BDF Board of Directors, also sits on the CCEF selection committee and chooses the grants to be sponsored by BDF. Due to State budget cuts for education, these grants for materials and supplies have become more and more important. The competition is intense. CCEF was thrilled to have sufficient funding, for the first time, to fund all 56 of this year’s qualifying grant requests. The presentation ceremony took place at the College of Central Florida on November 5th. Susan Pratt presented these program grants on behalf of BDF:
• CREST School (for students with disabilities) - “Literacy for the Family through Sharing Backpack Technologies.” Many of the students in the program have not read with their parents in the last year, and few read for pleasure or have books they like to read at home. This program provides tablets with e-books loaded on them for students to take home for a week at a time. Training will be provided for parents in
their use. The tablets will also contain applications for the whole family.
• Crystal River High School Spanish Department - “From Vocabulary Acquisition to Clarity of Content.” This project focuses on learning vocabulary as a key to discovering content clues for language acquisition. Games, CDs and DVDs of real life Spanish language interactions will increase students’ abilities to learn the language.
• Withlacoochee Technical Institute English as a Second Language Department - “ESOL, Adult Education and Career Pathways.”
The grant will purchase the “I’m Not Afraid of English Anymore” program to assist students in gaining English fluency and the skills to transition into post-secondary career and technical education.
• Citrus Springs Elementary School Fifth Grades - “3, 2, 1, BLAST OFF!”
Materials will be purchased for all of the fifth grade classes to build and launch their own rockets. The competition is school, state and nationwide. The students will experience real world science and math applications.
The power of partnerships lies in coordinating program funding to ensure adequate resources are provided to achieve success. BDF will continue to partner with County agencies and our own Black Diamond Junior Volunteer Corps to support programs that feed children, offer expanded educational opportunities, and develop young leaders. Your support of Black Diamond Foundation continues to make a difference in Citrus County!
