The year 2014 marks two important anniversaries for Pisa: the 950th year since the first stone of the city’s Cathedral was laid, and the 450th anniversary of the birth of Galileo Galilei, in commemoration of which the city’s Cittadella Galileiana and its museums (Ludoteca Scientifica and Museo del Calcolo) will be opened to the public.

Pisa AD 2014 offers citizens and visitors a rich calendar of events and shows against the backdrop of the streets and squares of the city’s historic centre, its riverfront boulevards and the wonderful Piazza dei Miracoli, which will be looking better than ever after the recent restoration of the Cathedral’s apse and the fresco depicting The Triumph of Death, and the return of part of a series of frescoes to the Camposanto.

Pisa AD 2014 also reaches outside the city to encompass other towns with a rich historic and artistic tradition like Volterra and San Miniato, as well as places that are less well known but all the more capable of providing a pleasant surprise for their beauty, variety and authenticity.
