Sanguinarineisaantiproliferativeagentthathasbeendevelopedasaanticanceragentasfarback as1600A.D.,bythepeoplesthatinhabitedNorthAmericawhichiscurrentlytheUnitedStatesof AmericaandCanada. TheMechanismStudieshaveshownthatsanguinarineisainhibitoroftheactivationofnuclear transcriptionfactorNFB,whichhasbeenimplicatedtoplayakeyroleintheregulationofcell growth,cellcycleregulation,andapoptosis.Theantitumorpropertiesofthisalkaloidareconstantly beingreestablished.Atpresent,onlyafewagentsareknowntopossessthepotentialfor selective/preferentialeliminationofcancercellswithoutaffectingthenormalcells.
