BLACKHALL Please remember especially in your prayers: Winifred Davies (80) who sadly died on the 6 th August. May she rest in peace. We remember her family especially in our prayers at this sad and difficult time. Funeral arrangements: Cremation in Hartlepool this coming Tuesday 4 th September at 12 noon. BLACKHALL &THORNLEY - Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament: St. Joseph’s: each Sunday – 5pm-6pm: Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. Sacred Heart & English Martyrs: Beginning this coming Friday 7 th September (each First Friday of the Month) 1.30pm-2.30pm, Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament (an opportunity to spend a time of quiet prayer in our Lord’s presence). Also: Prayer / Reflection Group on Saturday mornings in the Community Room Sacred Heart & English Martyrs, from 11am-12pm on the following dates: September 15 & 29, October 13, November 17, December 1& 15 On October 27&3 November there will be two longer sessions 10.30-12.30 on the theme of: “Your image of God creates you”. It would be helpful to attend both as they are connected. BLACKHALL & THORNLEY Campaign against abortion decriminalisation: Mass letter campaign – write to your M.P!! Last weekend – leaflets were distributed to the people at Hutton Henry. Leaflets now available for the people of Blackhall and Thornley. Please collect a leaflet as you leave Mass today. Beginners Ukulele Classes: For anyone 16+ beginning this Wednesday 5 th September 2018 6.30-7.30pm, for 8 weeks (Dates: 5 & 19 Sept. 3,10,17,24,31 Oct. & 7 Nov.) at St. Joseph’s Parish Rooms, Blackhall. £4 per session. THORNLEY: Pie & Pea Supper: Thursday 20 th September in the Catholic Club – After evening Mass. Tickets now on sale at back of the Church from Doreen Brown. Update on Church Roof: Recently Mr. Andrew Gillingham – our Diocesan Properties Manager – visited the Parish with a Roofing contractor appointed by the Diocese – to assess the continual problems with the Church roof. After a thorough examination they stated that recent works on the roof were satisfactory and were able to pin-point – weaknesses in the structure which can be remedied. We are awaiting an estimate and then work will begin. Once the Church is totally water tight – we will look at re-decoration and new carpets in the body of the Church. ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….. ALL PARISHES: Survive – Miva John Lyons will be making an appeal at all Masses next weekend to support the work of Survive Miva. This is a Catholic Lay Association – providing funding for essential transport for health outreach in isolated rural areas and for the Church’s pastoral care in places of difficult access. Please give generously if you can – many thanks!! Apostleship of the Sea invites you to a Mass in honour of our patron Stella Maris, Our Lady Star of the Sea. Come pray for the work of Apostleship of the Sea and for seafarers on Wednesday 19th September 2018 at 12 noon in St Bede's Church, 10 Westoe Rd, South Shields NE33 4LZ. Bishop Seamus Cunningham will celebrate Mass, followed by a reception. All invited.
