But first, someone had to roll up their shirtsleeves. Not even in the most hi-tech global metropolis is it machines, banks or politicians that make the plans into reality. Ultimately, it is always people who must step forward. Men and women who not only use their brains but also their hands and bodies to get things done.

We feel that all too often their hard work is taken for granted; they deserve greater attention. Because they are out in all weathers and build, maintain and repair our roads so we can all get about. Because they have driven goods vehicles all night long so there are goods in the shops for us to buy. Because they have built tunnels so we can get along so quickly by train. Without them, the rubbish would pile up, power cuts would be permanent and leaking pipes would result in huge water damage. They build our homes, workplaces, schools, hospitals, parks, fire stations and shopping centres. They weld ships, load ferries and unload goods wagons. They create change, renewal and the future.

At Blåkläder, we take our work very seriously. This is because, what we do affects the working day for these heroes. Our contribution is to constantly make their working day safer, more practical and, as far as possible, more comfortable and perhaps a bit more stylish. When our designers design new garments, they do so bearing in mind that they have to factor in many different countries and under many different conditions. There are hundreds of millions of Blåkläder Heroes all round the world.

Every year that goes by, we reach out to new countries. Every year that goes by, more companies become aware of and more caring for their employees' safety and working environment. So when we sew a pair of craftsman trousers, we make sure we do so with a three-needle seam with a lifetime guarantee worthy of a hero, regardless of where they live. We are proud to make work easier for all those who put their backs into making things work.

Two of these millions of heroes are Sören Nordström and Micke Forzelius, who you can see in the picture alongside. Every now and again they are recognised from one of our advertising films, but they are neither actors nor photo models; they are carpenters.

They both chose the profession for the freedom and opportunity to be outdoors and to create something using their own hands. And the job has been just as varied as they had hoped. However, they also notice that people who are not in a trade have difficulty understanding what their work is really like.

"People can come up when you are working on a roof in June and jealously grumble that you have it easy because you can be outdoors in the sunshine. But when it is November, two degrees above freezing and it's raining and windy, you don't see a trace of them. Then it's just you and your workmates who venture out in the rough weather," Micke says.

Currently, they are both working for a large construction company on major projects affecting many people, such as new residential areas and premises for research institutes. These are buildings that will be there for a very long time and that will do good for lots of people. Nevertheless, both of them have also built smaller apartment blocks and houses.

"Carpentry is a job that is really worth doing. I have built many houses that I am proud of," says Sören.

"To see the look on the customer's face the first time they enter their newly built house is absolutely priceless," concludes Micke and Sören nods in agreement.

Regardless of whether it's in Stockholm, New York or Brussels, all of us should be a bit more appreciative the next time we pass a building site. All the heroes working there deserve it!

It doesn't matter where on Earth you live. At the end of the day, the same things are important. A roof over your head, food on the table, the children at school and having a job to go to. That there are hospitals and roads, railways and bridges so we can get there.

Personal protective equipment is equipment that protects the wearer against one or more health or safety risks. In order to sell personal safety equipment in the EU, compliance with 89/686/EG, the European Directive regulating PPE products, is obligatory. The Directive regulates requirements concerning function, marking, technical documentation and the CE marking process. Pursuant to the Directive, personal protective equipment is divided into three categories:Category I - Protective equipment of simple design where the user can assess the protection level. Products from Blåkläder: Rainwear.Category II - Protective equipment that is neither simple nor complex and protects against medium risks. Products from Blåkläder: Warning (hi-vis) garments, safety shoes, protective gloves, knee protectors, flame resistant garments, blade cut resistance garments.Category III - Protective equipment of complex design that protects the wearer against dangers to life or serious permanent injury, where the user cannot detect the risk in time. Products from Blåkläder: Filter masks, garments that protect against electric arcs.

Protective equipment in categories II and III are type approved by a notified body and adapted to the majority of different harmonised standards. In order to sell PPE products, they must be CE marked. The CE mark means that a product is type approved and complies with the requirements set for personal protective equipment in Directive 89/686/EG. Thereby, the protective equipment can be sold in all EU and ESS countries. All of Blåkläder's PPE products comply with the requirements that are set in accordance with Directive 89/686/EG.

Blåkläder is an expansive company and by far the greatest part of the

workwear we produce is sold outside Sweden. The biggest expansion

is also occurring internationally. The interest in professional workwear

is greater than ever before. Major changes are taking place in many

countries at the moment, above all in Europe. Low-price clothing is losing

ground rapidly and an increasing number of employers are now investing

in proper workwear for their employees. It makes the job easier, simpler

and – not least – safer.

Always the same high quality, worldwide

Being a genuine international company means being able to deliver the

same high quality in every country. For us, quality is much more than

fabric and triple-needle seams. Blåkläder is a brand that consists of

both products and people. For this reason, we are investing significant

resources in maintaining the same high quality at all stages, from design

to sales. We have our own factories for producing the garments, we have

our own warehouses where there are always more then 2 million products

in circulation and we have our own sales force to look after resellers and

major customers.

Our own sales companies in 14 countries

While many companies are resolving the representation issue by means

of agents, we are doing the opposite, prioritising building up our own

sales companies. International success is based on responsiveness and

humility when faced with the various markets' differences. By having

our own personnel in place, we can be sure that Blåkläder acts and

is perceived in the right way. That no one promises too much and that

everybody understands that a customer is not satisfied before he or she

returns to buy Blåkläder one more time.

You must always be able to rely on Blåkläder, wherever in the world you

meet us. Long-term credibility can only be built by keeping promises

and being as good as one's word. That we offer a lifetime guarantee

on our seams does not just express the fact that our products are of

high, uniform quality. It is above all a hand stretched out to all of our

customers worldwide showing that we listen and learn, not least if

something is wrong.

That we have our own factories is a matter of course

Professional workwear is not clothing in the normal meaning of the word.

It is a work tool that sets completely different requirements for design,

quality and manufacturing. Sewing workwear requires special expertise

and skills; it also requires special machines. In other words, production

must be done by a very select group of factories. Moreover, factories must

be found with sufficiently high free capacity to produce the large volumes

needed by Blåkläder. Which factories have the greatest free capacity?

Which companies have the least to do? Not the best!

The obvious solution was to acquire our own factories, where we can

make sure the machine park is cutting edge and where the already

skilful professionals become even better thanks to collaboration with

designers and constructors, and not least, due to the routine that comes

from sewing some of the world's most advanced professional workwear

on a daily basis. Moreover, as a company, we can control the quality at

every stage. Should a fault occur in production, it is not discovered after

delivery but rather during the production process. Should there be a

fault in the fabric, it is discovered before going into production. We buy

all fabrics for cash and already own them before they are shipped to our

factories. For this reason, we also check them with extra care.

We have operations in Vietnam and Sri Lanka.

We have had a factory in Vietnam for 20 years, and began manufacturing

in Sri Lanka 6 years ago to support demand. We have a great interest in

ensuring that these factories function perfectly. Our personnel are there

every day to work. While others put resources into making unannounced

inspections in factories they don't know particularly well, we can put

our resources into increasing productivity and improving operations. We

develop both personnel and production in order to maintain a high and

uniform level of quality in the future.

To manufacture high quality workwear, it is not enough simply to avoid

doing the wrong thing or making mistakes. Quality is also being able to

maintain a uniform level so that the result will always be the same. If a

pair of craftsman trousers feels different the next time they are bought,

this is easily perceived as negative. The quality per se may not be worse,

but it is different. Blåkläder must be the same, always, everywhere.

We want to take responsibility, we want to be profitable

Many of our competitors are devout believers in outsourcing.

Manufacturing, warehousing and logistics, distribution and sales are

outsourced. Blåkläder has chosen to go in the opposite direction. We

are convinced that we must be best in our own area. If someone else

is sharper at manufacturing or can represent our brand better to the

market, something is wrong. We live following the simple philosophy: that

you can't get something for nothing. You can't receive dividends without

investing. You can't get respect without deserving it.

Now there’s an easy way to help the environment – choose work clothes made from recycled polyester. With advanced technology we melt down used PET bottles and spin them into thread. The resulting polyester weave is extremely durable, comfortable and environmentally-friendly. The end result consists of 55% recycled polyester and 45% cotton (weight 268 g/m2).

Polyester is manufactured using oil with chemicals such as naphtha, xylenes, acids and glycol. The manufacturing process also uses a lot of energy. Recycling polyester minimises these negative effects.

Protective clothing certified according to EN 531 provides the wearer with protection against transi-tory contact with heat and flame. The heat can be convection heat, thermal radiation, metal splash or a combination of these.

The garments are classified based on the following parameters:(A) Limited flame spread.(B) Convection heat, scale 1-5 where 5 is best.(C) Thermal radiation, scale 1-4 where 4 is best.(D) Molten aluminium splash, scale 1-3 where 3 is best.(E) Molten iron splash, scale 1-3 where 3 is best.

Protective clothing certified according to EN ISO 11611 provides the wearer with protection against small splashes of molten metal as well as transitory contact with flame. The garments certified according to this standard are suitable for users who weld or work with similar work. The garments are classified based on their protective capacity against different levels of welding techniques which cause more or less spray and thermal radiation.

Class 1 - Protection against less dangerous welding techniques and situations, which cause less spray and lower thermal radiation.

hOW TO Order:

1. Provide a clear original, preferably in black and white.

2. Specify the colours in the logotype by their PMS numbers.

3. Specify the desired size of the decal.

4. State the desired position on the garment using the designations given in the figure.

Investing in attractive, uniform company clothing is a cost-effective way to do this. Blåkläder offers you a lighter-weight collection for ser-vice, industry and so on, and a heavier range for rougher professions. You have a huge choice of garments to embellish. There is no minimum order volume and the time from ordering to delivery is around 1 week depending on quantity and complexity. Just say the word if you want reflector strips, knee or leg pockets sewn on.

Remember: In some cases, decals are not advisable. Garments with taped seams must not be marked with decals over the seams. The heat softens the glue and makes the tape come loose. Some linings can also be ruined by decal application with excessively high tempe-ratures. Contact our customer service and check before labelling. In our high-visibility clothing with EN 471 certification, only some sizes are available due to certification requirements.

Embroidering in garments that are wind and watertight causes the fabric to let moisture in. We recommend that you do not embroider in these garments.

WHAT IS GORE-TEX®?It is the most durable waterproof, windproof and breathable material available for working garments. The outer material is carefully chosen to satisfy our high demands and is then laminated with a water-proof GORE-TEX® membrane.

HOW DOES IT WORK?The GORE-TEX® membrane has 1.4 billion pores / cm2 which prevent water and wind from passing through. The pores are 20,000 times smaller than a drop of water, but 700 times bigger than a molecule of moisture vapour. This makes the GORE-TEX® membrane totally waterproof from the outside while the vapour molecules can escape from the inside.

INSULATE – LAYER 2The intermediate layer insulates while wicking the moisture further away. As the temperature drops, the

intermediate layer insulates against cold and lets you maintain your body heat. If you get hot and sweaty, re-gulate your temperature by lightening your intermediate layer. Put on a flannel shirt, a fleece garment or an artifi-cial fibre undergarment.

Our fleece garments combine style and function. Fleece warms when it’s cold. It’s also easy to wash, dries quickly and wicks away moisture from the body.

PROTECT – LAYER 3This is the shield that protects you from cold, rain and wind. The breathing

function releases moisture from inside so it can evaporate on the out-side. Our technology is called WabTech. The material is lightweight, easy

to care for, has taped seams and an especially durable surface layer.

TRANSPORT – LAYER 1This layer wicks away moisture from the skin. An undergar-ment of wool or channel-stitched synthetic material absorbs moisture and wicks it away. Wool also regulates body tem-perature well. In cold weather it warms, and when the body heats up it cools. That means it is perfect to use even in clo-thing for warm environments.

Wool is somewhat self-cleaning. The wool’s natural creatine eliminates foul-smelling bacteria, so that the garment stays fresh longer.

SHOES & SOCKS LAYER 1-3If your feet become cold and wet you will freeze no matter what you have on the rest of the body. We recommend you wear functional socks that breathe and wick away moisture from the skin. Chose a shoe that matches your profession and the time of year. In addition to protecting against water and oil, the shoe should be able to breathe, which is why leather shoes are recommended rather than synthetic. Shoes should never dry close to a heat source, make sure you have at least two pairs of shoes so that one pair is always clean and dry when you need to go out to work.
