What is Blogging?

• Let’s first start with what is a blog?

• A blog is a personal journal or diary that is out on the internet that one may update daily. A place where you can share your thoughts and passions.

• Blogger-a person who keeps a blog – Bloggers are revolutionizing the way news is shared.

• So Blogging is the act of writing a blog.

Why do people blog?

• Everyone has a voice and sometimes people want their voices to be heard.

• The internet is a huge place where your voice can be heard- Never before have people been able to reach an audience so quickly and with little to no trouble.

• Now bloggers have the opportunity of reaching hundreds or even thousands of people each and everyday.

Why do people blog?

• Many people like to share details of their day.

• Many people like to share their interests in a hobby or an activity.• Most often what people are passionate about.

• Blog websites contain multiple things:• Hair tips, up to date news, how-tos, celebrity

scandal, politics, volunteering, advice, sports, cooking, personal blogs.

• COUNTLESS REASONS WHY PEOPLE BLOG WHAT THEY BLOG!

Blogger• Blogger.com is one of the most popular blogging applications available.

There are two main reasons for its popularity. First it have been around longer than just about any other blogging software so bloggers are very familiar with it. Second, its completely free and easy to use. Google purchased it several years ago and the features and tools available have continued to grow.

• Blogger.com is often referred to as the easiest blogging application to start a new blog and the easiest to use for beginner bloggers, particularly when it comes to publishing posts and uploading images. Blogger.com also offers a wide variety of features. Unlike other blogging software programs where additional features are available at an extra charge or through external upload (which can be confusing for beginner bloggers), Blogger.com gives users easy access to the tools they need to customize their blogs to meet their needs.

• Overview

• Kidblog is a wonderful resource for student blogging. According to Kidblog’s website, kidblog.org “is designed for elementary and middle school teachers who want to provide each student with their own, unique blog. Kidblog’s simples, yet powerful tools allow student to publish posts and participate in discussions with in a secure classroom blogging community. Teachers maintain complete control over student blogs.”

Kid blogger

• Kidblog has many advantages over other blogging sites.

• Teachers can create a class blog, and add students accounts without needing student email accounts.

• Students have their own blogging space.

• Teachers have control over approving students’ posts and comments before they are published to the blog.

• The site is secure.

• Teachers can post private comments- this is a great way to leave feedback for the student.

• Students can navigate easily between their blog space and the teachers blog space and their classmates’ blog space.

Curriculum connections

• Create book discussions (Great for lit circles or book reports).

• Post prompts for writing.

• Communicate with parents and students about classroom news, policies, and events.

• Journal writing online.

• Publish student work.

How can we use kid blogger and BLOGGER in our classrooms as

future teachers?

How can blogging help education?

• For kids• Learning how to write is an important skill• Kids will want to READ their own content and their peers.• Creativity• Typing is an essential that children need to learn.• With technology advancing all the time, children need to learn how

to interact with blogging platform.

• For teachers• Improve organizations so that assignments and other work is easily

found.• Improve communication and interactions with students in or out of

the classroom.• Allows students more interaction with one another while using

technology and creates self-sufficient and independent students.• Teachers who have used blogging as a tool in the classroom have

found that it helps to empower their students to be SUCCESSFUL!

Blogging on Pinterest

• If you have a Pinterest account you can pin • Blogging ideas• Pictures and ideas that correlate with your

particular blogs.• Use for your students in the classroom about

different blogs to read or blogging websites.

• Go to your Pinterest and add 3 things about blogging to a board called Blogs.
