Bloom Engineering is a combus on oriented company headquartered in Pi sburgh, Pennsylvania, serving basic industry with global energy and environmental solu ons. The Bloom family of companies specializes in problem solving through custom engineering of industrial burners, com-bus on systems, controls and refractory products.

Bloom Engineering, founded in 1934, serves the world market through its Pi sburgh headquarters, wholly owned subsidiaries opera ng in Europe, license partners and a worldwide network of sales offices and represent-a ves. Bloom Engineering, a combus on oriented company, serves basic industry with par cularly strong roots in steel and aluminum.

INNOVATIVE ENERGY AND ENVIRONMENTAL SOLUTIONS

It is Bloom Engineering's mission to be the foremost provider of Innova ve energy and environmental solu ons to industry. We will accomplish this through technical exper se, product applica on and quality services. We will at all mes work to exceed our customer's expecta ons with dedica on to problem solving and ongoing research and development.

Bloom INDUSTRIAL BURNERS & COMBUSTION SYSTEMS

Bloom Engineering has developed a reputa on for quality industrial burners and combus on systems. Our profes-sional staff and years of experience have been the cornerstone of our business. Our industrial burner and combus-

on systems offer a complete range of burners designed for use in industrial applica ons including direct fired burners, regenera ve burners, radiant tube burners, HTR burners, and self-recupera ve burners. The burners can be used for a variety of applica ons and can be operated with a wide array of fuels and capacity ranges and in-cludes burners that operate with Low to Ultra Low NOx emissions.

Regenera ve (LTRTM) Systems

Most of the world recognizes the necessity of reducing NOx emissions. Although most of Bloom's original burners were inherently low NOx designs, modifica ons have lowered emissions even further to meet the challenges presented by clean air requirements making Bloom a world leader in this technology. With the development of Regenera ve Burners, Bloom's low NOx baffle innova ons successfully solved the challenges presented by regenera on's high temperature combus on air characteris cs. To meet Radiant Tube Burner users' improved air quality requirements, Bloom implemented crea ve design changes.

INDUSTRIAL BURNER TYPES

Bloom Engineering manufactures a wide range of industrial burner and low NOx burners for industrial furnaces. This page iden fies and explains the basic types of industrial burners.

Regenera on uses a pair of burners which cycle to alternately heat the combus on air or recover and store the heat from the furnace exhaust gases. When one regenera ve burner is firing, the other is exhaus ng the fur-nace gases. Regenera ve burners have excellent thermal efficiency because they achieve very high preheat temperatures.

Regenera ve Burners

The objec ve of the radiant tube burner is to transfer heat from combus on gases to the radiant tube and then radiate the energy to the load. Radiant tube burners are used in specific hea ng processes where com-bus on products cannot come in contact with the load or material

Radiant Tube Burners

Baffle burners recirculate furnace gas into the flame. Its appearance is decep vely simple con-sis ng of a body, gas nozzle, baffle and port. Air enters the burner body directly and the gas pass-es through the body separated from the air with the fuel tube. The refractory baffle separates the body from the burner block (port), which is within the wall of the furnace.

Baffle Burners

In the first stage of an air staged burner, all of the fuel is mixed with a por on of the combus on air. The remaining combus on air is then added in one or more addi onal stages un l the fuel is completely used. The first stage air is introduced through the inner air jets and the second stage air through the outer air jets. Fuel flows through the center.

Direct Fired Burners

Air Staged Burners

High Thermal Release (HTR) Burners

Bloom HTR Burners are similar to the baffle burner. In the small size range, the HTR burner uses a me-tallic nozzle rather than a ceramic one. The air jets have a high radial velocity component which im-parts a high spin to the air. The port block has a dished area. The combina on of the high spin and the block configura on produces a flame with a flat profile.

Self-Recupera ve Burners include a recuperator that is integral to the burner that preheats the in-coming combus on air. The exhaust gases are ‘pulled back’ through the burner by an eductor which is located upstream of the burner. This design arrangement leads to a high air preheat temperature and excellent thermal efficiencies.
